Yeah, but I don't know if it's so good. One big thing about GSL and MLG is that they are not based on invites. That makes them a whole lot more serious/professional than other tournaments. There's nothing wrong with them agreeing to use each other's tournament as a qualifier. That's still perfectly objective. And the people MLG sends to GSL are picked totally objectively. But I would really, really like it if the people GSL sends were picked objectively too. It seems obvious that people are being chosen to go based on their fan base, which makes the tournaments (slightly) less legitimate. It is not good if the GSL staff can say "Oh, player X didn't qualify, and we know having him would help our ratings, so let's give him some sort of easier way to qualify that most people don't get access to." The people sent should be those with the highest GSL points of the ones who want to go (or maybe exclude those who have already gone or something, but something objective).
It's a win-win situation for gsl and the fans. They know their code s/a/b system is quite flawed as quite some time is required to replace the weaker players. I doubt any korean pro-gamers would complain even if a code-b player like DRG gets the code s spot. So what they do is throw in 2 very high level code s players like IMMVP and DRG, and any players that still manage to come out ahead of them definitely deserve the code s spot. Inviting mostly code b players also give us fans more opportunities to watch their games even if they don't win it.

Less legitimate how exactly? The players have proven they deserve it be there and still these "fan favorites" have a chance to win the whole thing. Would you prefer to send their full code S load?
Less legitimate because they didn't have to earn their spot for group play, unlike everyone else. To get into GSL Code S you have to perform well at MLG and win it, to get into group play at MLG a Korean has to lose and drop out of Code S, then if he's popular he may get invited to MLG. If it was truly going to be legit, then the Koreans would play from the open bracket until they have earned enough MLG points to be seeded into group play.
If you had koreans in the open bracket, you would never see new foreigner faces. The koreans would absolutely rape the open bracket so there's no point in even doing that. I'd rather keep the koreans out of the open bracket, and let the foreigners duke it out so that we can rotate new foreigners in that deserve it (such as thorzain) and kick out the foreigners that don't deserve it (gretorp).

So in your format only foreigns can play in the open bracket and get into the groups without an invite? You say players like thorzain who "deserve it". How does he deserve it if he doesn't have to be challenged facing the best players in the world? Anyone should be able to compete. if you can't beat the best you shouldn't be rewarded like the best.

Because the koreans don't need to prove their worth? July roflstomped through the open bracket undefeated, you'd rather have that again? It's just a waste of time. Our goal is to find out who's the best out of the foreigners. We already know the koreans > everyone else. Why not find out who's the best foreigner?
That's definitely that best moment from that entire game. I'm SUPER excited to see him play at an MLG.
I've only seen ridiculous marine splits from him and mkp. For some reason other top korean terrans like bomber and nada don't have that kind of splitting
sC has some amazing marine splits. They really showed in his series against Nestea in last GSL and against DRG in the LG tournamnet. I would put his splits on par with MKP and MVP.
the best marine micro i've ever seen- it's actually several levels above "just" splitting. respect the korean terrans, but happy micro > all
O_O
That is some of the most amazing marine micro I have ever witnessed.

Wait a minute...so if DongRaeGu wins MLG he will get right into Code S?! So not only will we get to see him owning it up at Anaheim, but we might even get to see him owning up in Korea afterwards (and not just the team leagues)?! Holy shit this is like christmas.

The best foreigner is the one who owns every other foreigner, because they won't take down the best korean. If we already know the koreans are the best, why put them through the open bracket? You're just wasting your time

defenetly. his wc3 micro was top 5 in the world as well, he just kept and keeps playing standard only, no matter what. if you tell him to change his style, he says "i have to micro better", not realizing there is not much room left^^
