Ermk.
I have Klippel feil Syndrome. I have heart problems. I had surgery when I was little. Three to be exact >.>
I also had hemivertebrae. My pediatrician recommended I see a orthopedic Surgeon at Oakland Childrens hospital. (Well, because of my health insurance I was locked in Oakland)
OK, so he seems ok. Then one day he says it's progressing and I need an MRI, but not imminent surgery. I go back, he says I need surgery in 3 months. Christmas break of freshman year I have the surgery. It sucks. I'm in a lot of pain. I'm unable to be active for 9 months. I'ts painful beyojnd belief. They misdose pain meds, and I"mon 1/10 the dose of morphine I should be on. I'm on narcotics for 6 weeks. (stronger narcotics than vicodin) But I"m done.
I had to wear a giant brace for 4 months. In fact, this brace was misfitted. With my head forward. Kyphosed they call it. Over time, my fusion began to fail in the upper regions due to the misfitted brace. My neck literally became dislocated. We went back to the surgeon, who said I needed another surgery to correct this. We got a second opinion. He said that although that problem was not good, and needed to be treated, the main problem is there were two screws close to my aorta, and one in the outside of my lung. We got one second opinion. He didn't know what needed to be done. But he knew it wasn't good. My surgeon used to be his intern. he got on the phone and yelled at him.
We got a third opinion from a guy from UCSD who had done research in the area of screws and aortas. (lolwtf) He said it was close, but far enough to not be a problem.
I had the surgery with a Neurosurgeon out of Oakland. Some sensation returned in my right hand, (it was a bit numb on my pinky)
Anyways, I have this surgery . They didn't know how much they needed to refuse. They debated rejoining C7 and T1. But they decided against it. Turns out those two didn't fuse. They kept on rescheduling my appointment, and I got in 5 months later than I should have. It turned out that this level had not fused.
In addition to this I currently have back pain down my entire upper back. NOt severe, but fairly constant. It prevents me from doing any exertion long term. Although weightlifting is fine, anything more than that can be problematic.
So anyways, went to UCSF. Doctor ordered CT Myelogram. (Damn spinal taps >.>)
Had CT, he said I need all my rods removed. They give me pain so meh. Either July 21, 28 or Next year.
And he said my other two surgeons were in over their heads :/
Korea
Is cool. Like 1/4 my friends are there. I'd like to learn korean for the hell of it.
The end. (I got lazy 1/100 of the way through writing this part)
They'd have to strip muscles off the top half of my back.

Damn. And I complain about a little paper cut I get. I hope that your future operations go well.

Jesus, tough life. I feel for you, that's a lot of stuff to deal with, not to mention all the incompetence from the doctors - I've found most of them really don't have a clue what they are doing either, although I only have minor problems compared to you.
Stick through this and write more if it helps you - I'll read it. Gimme a PM if you have to and I'll read and give some comments.
Goodluck.

Wow that really sucks, hope things get better for you

Thanks for filling us in Froadac...hope everything turns out better! Sounds like an absolute bitch to live with.

Sucks dude, I hope everything works out in the end

Hey man I hope things will get better for you soon. You are really unlucky for having these kind of problems. Try to make sure you keep your docs in check and be really demanding on them. Don't let them treat you like just another patient.

You just gotta believe you'll get better, and you will. It might be hard, but you'll pull through and things will start to look up! This must sort of suck, but you're fortunate to live life every day

Bump.
If you repost this during the day you'll get a lot more replies btw.

Easiest ways to learn Korean:
1. Go to Korea and don't be lazy or ignorant. 2. Start attending college-level classes. 3. Get a tutor. 4. Get language exchange friends.
Rosetta stone, websites, and books won't teach you shit.
Good luck

good luck froadac!!!! Get it done fast so you can lift big weights in the future !! :D

Yea bro TLHF is backing you up. Get well and then get Big.

Meh. Trying to figure out if I can get it done before college apps. If not, I'll need to do it after senior year :/
|
Oh, and thanks Chill.
My biggest question in terms of that is would community college courses be reasonable in general, or should I just try and audit a course at UC Berkeley or the such.

If you're starting from scratch, a community college class would be perfect. If you live in a major city you might be able to find classes that are offered outside of colleges (like through community programs).
My entire city only has an "intro to Korean" class. I only found out about it once I was passed that level. Once you get passed that it's more difficult to continue improving.
Lucky for you, Koreans love to travel so it should be easy to find language exchange partners.

ouch.
talk about crappy doctors

Probably. I go to school at a highschool with many foreign exchange students. Last year there were a substantial number of koreans, but this year no.
I know hangul. That's the extent of my knowledge ^^
Oh. Darnit. Budget cuts strike back as course is no longer offered tt
What did you do to learn Chillmeister?
