Thanks for the help Trang & skyR before patch today the last 48 hours I searched for upgrades for wrist / weapon / rings / gloves / shield. While I did decide to keep my SS for time being since it is not horrible and was unable to find a reasonable priced weapon. With changes I made to using a Justice Lantern as new ring and changing that skill that I did not need the rage for. I was able to kill Ghom and clear all way through act 3 and into act 4 now.
So thank you very much and hopefully the patch did not make changes to where I wasted money and now need completely different type of items LOL, but would be my luck. From notes I don't see really much changing for me outside maybe cleave being a good main skill now? I will wait to see I feedback from much more knowledgeable folks then myself and wait for prices to normalize before I go forward with upgrades, esp a weapon upgrade.
Here is my current setup - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/iLLusive-1834/hero/20808608
If you see anything that needs immediate change let me know I am willing to adjust to be capable of farming act 2 / 3 faster because right now it's pretty slow!!

hey all , the patch is out for only a few hours and i tryed a build that i find was pretty fun i wont go too much into the details but just want to tell the absic so gosu ppl here can optimize it
i wanted to try out rend , and for some reason i always believed in life leach , so here i am running around with cleave with any rune ,rend with the life leach rune ,bloodthrist ,and with gear im at 9 % life leach ,revenge, wotb, and a 1100 dps 2 hander and im basicly a god and ive passed act 3 ghom and np so far only from baneling guys haha , my hp goes back to full as soon as i have more than 3 mobs around me affected by rend , 2 is enough to survive even so far ,im not that well geared so i still have some tanky passive but i kept ruthless , i use leap iron impact to start the rend in a pack of monster but i guess could be switched with some other skill. so thats the basic of it stacking life leach and huge cleave /crit dmg wanna know your feadback ... oh yhea im running warcry impunity too of course

Hey guys, I played back in the first 2 months of release and had a barb on act 2 Inferno. I know a lot has changed since then so I was wondering if you guys could drop a quick summary of how barbs are faring/gearing now. Not trying to be an ass and have someone repost the entire thread or anything, but for reference when I was playing all barbs did was stack all res and vit while spamming revenge procs to get through Inferno. Is that still the idea?
Thanks!

Thanks! That was the idea until yesterday, today everything changed.
But not sure what is "best" now. Surely depends very much on what playstyle you prefer and which gear you have. Basically we are all as clueless as you now, so take the opportunity and find out yourself.

Everything is in chaos right now no one can say what's happening until the dust settles from this massive patch.
However the 2builds that didn't change were the old-school tanky barb(tranq made a guide) and the FoTM OP barb build known as the Tornado build. There are opportunities for the other builds now due to legendaries and buffs to skills, I wouldn't be surprised seeing cleavers/ hota builds showing up now.

Awesome good to hear! Looks like this patch was a huge step in the right direction for the game. I'm excited to start playing again.

Haha I was already abusing throw build hard and now it's even stronger. 300k dps in wrath ftw
|
I was using Hammer of the Ancients to good effect before the patch, this buff just turned me into a ridiculous wrecking machine. 520k critical hit!!!
SHA-BLAM!

I run with burst damage build now. WoTB+EQ+Rend, Act3 just get a lot easier.

So, there's seems to be some new interesting items for weapon throw barb. I'm wondering if weapon throw will be viable for PvP if you have a reduced fury cost belt (e.g., 5 from IK belt) and then 4 from a skull grasp. You can also get a Mara's with 5 reduced fury cost. Since weapon throw only costs 10 fury, does this actually mean you can reduce the cost all the way down to 0? I'm really tempted to try this out, especially with the new Three Hundreth spear.

logged in with my gimpy bargain budget barb (sold all my good stuff when I 'quit' back in early june) and absolutely ravaged act 3 with a cleave, rend, provocation, tankish/dpsish spec. Was pretty silly. I think I was nearly invincible and my gear isn't even so good for todays state of the game!
I think anyone can beat inferno now, get to work!

does any1 know if rend stacks or is it pointless to spam it
|
it do not, it do however refresh it. so some spam isn't to bad, best is to move around and hit more enemies with it
|
If you watch Rend closely, you will notice that individual ticks don't crit. What happens is that at the moment when you cast Rend and it hits a target, the game will then determine if there is a crit for each target. If you don't crit, the ticks are as per usual. If you do crit, then you will notice all the ticks will be higher than usual. During all this no yellow numbers appear. This means that in a normal fight when you are dishing out other damage too then it is hard to tell if you scored a crit and on which monsters.
The thing with refreshing Rend is that you if you crit, you can overwrite a crit by refreshing Rend with a non-crit Rend, effectively reducing your damage output. While this might sound bad, if you are refreshing Rend at regular/consistent intervals, then the overall effect in terms of crit distribution is the same anyway. On the other hand if you were skilled enough at reading your damage numbers you could continue to refresh Rend until you do in fact crit. You would probably only bother to do this when you have reduced the fight down to just the elites or for single bosses. I couldn't be bothered myself.
So the conclusion is refresh as you need to, either to make sure you have Rend active on as many enemies as possible, or to ensure damage when you expect your damage output will be interrupted (either by mobs kiting or anticipated CC effects like frozen).

Trang is there any skills needing to be changed from my current spec with patch. I know lot of things are still being tested and I can farm Act 2 pretty well, but was curious if you made any changes yourself since my spec was heavily based on your influence.

iLLusive, I haven't had a chance to really play with Hammer of the Ancients or Seismic Slam yet, but I have played around a bit with Rend (Bloodlust). The setups I played with were using Rend in place of either Revenge, Furious Charge or Battle Rage. Each setup has it's pros and cons, and the effectiveness of each probably depends on your current stats. I have a detailed analysis of all this on my Tanky Barb thread, check it out

got that new IK helm, good rolls, low str (95) but max res (80) sold it for $250 instantly when I put it up. Great to be back LOL.

I instantly went for a similar thing (bash instead of cleave). Seems very viable. Basically I have all my former tank gear on and use some blue 1.4 k 2h with it.
Only problem was that I didnt have the slightest chance to beat Ghom with this lol.

Hey can you guys tell me if this build is any good? I've been using it for a while and I like it. Hammer is the best single target damage skill and with the stun it's also very good against packs. Combined with Wrenching smash you can keep mobs stunned for most of the fight.
Cleave - +Fury Hammer - Stun on Kill Wrenching Smash Iron Impact Ignore Pain - Life Steal War cry - resists
Tough as nails Superstition Ruthless

i am not sure what your level and equipment is so suggestions might not be the best.
i am not liking the hammer + thunderstrike. too passive for me since it only occurs when you kill something. if you really like hammer, it would be better to get rolling thunder i think.
ground stomp and leap, both too defensive. i usually just pick one but not both. you may want to check out charge + dreadnought too
ignore pain - i prefer to use revenge + provocation than ignore pain. because it is damage + instant life.
