its not supposed to be informative, but people who actually understand them will go "oh... i get it"
and i doubt you have watched the first two seasons. i agree that after season 2, TBBT started to dumb down their nerd references, perhaps to make it more understandable for americans
I agree. In season 1 (I think) when Sheldon goes to a costume party as the Doppler effect, funny. Lately it's just been Sheldon reciting useless facts about random items, not that funny.
Regarding laugh tracks: TBBT is filmed in front of a live audience. Sure they might encourage people to laugh and applaud, but "overuse of laugh tracks" is just wrong. If you watch their blooper reels you will hear the audience laugh and clap at the bloopers, too, and the crew interacting with them.

My opinion too. The jokes, or funny moments/parts aren't related to what is happening now. It's just random stuff happening at random moments and because it is "nerdy" it's also funny. Big Bang Theory used to be great, now it's disappointing. I really hope they fix this in the next few episodes

The jokes arent even nerdy, they are mostly jokes that anyone with some pop culture knowledge will get and even if they dont get them they can laugh at the fact that they dont get them.

That was my impression of the show as well when I saw an episode of it. Felt like they were forcing the "nerd" into a standard stereotypical sitcom plot. I consider myself a nerd (I love my computer, I'm a computer engineer, etc.) and most nerds don't act the way they do on this show. Was really hard for me to get into it because of that.
and most nerds don't act the way they do on this show
Well, that's the point, they are basing it off of the stereotypes in peoples minds and then some. What makes it funny is because they don't take themselves seriously and make light about all of it.

ahh, Friends, and King of Queens -- NOT FUNNY IN THE FIRST PLACE! (Wait really, friends...??.........)
That 70's show -- doesnt belong in the aforementioned list. Not hilarious but original and occasionally funny.
My point? Dont slump all these comedy series' in the same group. Just dont.
I can't stand Big Bang Theory. All the nerd references are just that, references. They clearly have no idea what they're talking about. It ends up just feeling insulting to me, because the jokes are just "He says something nerdy - CUE LAUGH TRACK" as if just being nerdy is hilarious in and of itself.
Notice how practically nothing any of them say is funny at all. Hell, the first "joke" in the scene is "My mom sent me my old N64." Notice how neither of them have any idea about videogames (Multiplayer Mario64? Mario 64 didn't need a memory card).
I am seriously surprised this thread got the positive response it did. I honestly expected that the OP would just get told over and over again how the show is awful, and he should feel bad for watching it.
