Notice how practically nothing any of them say is funny at all. Hell, the first "joke" in the scene is "My mom sent me my old N64." Notice how neither of them have any idea about videogames (Multiplayer Mario64? Mario 64 didn't need a memory card).
I am seriously surprised this thread got the positive response it did. I honestly expected that the OP would just get told over and over again how the show is awful, and he should feel bad for watching it.
Bitter much? Just don't watch man. Easy 'nuff =/
I don't watch. I only posted because I am surprised how many TL users like it. After more thoroughly reading the thread, I see that the show wasn't always this bad, so while I maintain my opinion that the show sucks, I'm a little less disappointed in the average Team Liquid user.

Just proves TL is a fantastic representation of many different kinds of people. I'm sure there are plenty of TL users that listen to Ke$ha on a regular basis. I honestly don't care nor am I disappointed in them.
Wait--I take that back I am disappointed in those who listen to Ke$ha.
I take it all back--you can be disappointed in whoever you want. I talked myself into agreeing with you.
I've seen it now that they're airing reruns on other networks, and I was a little disappointed. Certainly knew people who talked like that in college (which is kind of refreshing to be around), but it doesn't feel like they take the ball and run with nerd funny.
Example: Sheldon is sick, so they sneak out to a planet of the apes marathon, dressed as apes. Punchline, one guy reaches for another guys popcorn, get your hands off me you damn dirty ape. That's it?
I don't know what they could do, but it's not enough. They try to fill in for the weakness of their nerd funny with psychological abnormalities, like Sheldon's various anxiety disorders, which seems kind of forced and cliched. And this could all work if they had some extremely clever or well executed plots, but (at the least the ones I've seen) are pretty average.

Its supposed to be a show for the average joe. Make them "feel" smart and nerdy. I just look at it as mild entertainment.. Its funny if you go in with an open, non-overcritical mind.
I love watching it with my m8s, because they love it but dont get half the references/subtleties, like back when penny was playing AoC etc, or the idd awesome zerg shirt
The only real pet peeve of mine, in regards to the nerdy shit is their overly fanciful use of language. I mean how many times can a discovery be paradigm altering? I'm smart and all, and I use large words, hell none of the stuff really goes over my head [most of it is gibberish anyway], but seriously? No one speaks like that. No one spells out the various elements involved in a glass of milk when they ask for it. Outside of that I really like the show, though I can see how it gets stale for some people.

To be fair I thought the nerd jokes in the beginning ~Season 1-2 were pretty good. But after that they were definitely dumbing it down for the mainstream audience. Lets face it, if they were true nerds they wouldn't be using Macbooks, Alienwares or playing Halo
They're running out of the good stuff, of course, but i'm impressed. The series has definitely taken a turn for the better lately, Amy is a really good character and they keep coming up with smart choices for where they're taking each episode.
I have had a friend force feed me this show for ~1 season, and i can't say it was much of anything. I get the jokes, but i don't get why people find them funny. It's all been done to death. It's just a "nerd" packaging this time around. Granted, most things have been done in some form, but this feels really watered-down and stale. I'll give the first episodes of season 2 a chance, but i'm not expecting much.
So I sent Wil Wheaton a message via reddit about that shirt. This was that message and his response.

Hey Wil, I saw that you were wearing two starcraft shirts on yesterday's episode of Big Bang Theory. Was it your idea to wear them? And do you follow the starcraft scene at all?

I don't follow the scene at all today, but back in the old days of Windows 95, I loved to play Zerg against my friends.
I think it's running abit stale, most of the "jokes" aren't even jokes, it's just something considered nerdy, ha ha ha, then something nerdy again, ha ha ha. It got old rather fast..
i think it's a very fun series, why do people have to make a big deal out of everything? it's just one more comedy and I find some of the references pretty cool, like in that very same episode the "yea stormtroopers, these are the 2 droids you are looking for" when Sheldon was talking about Leonard betraying him

Amy is horrible. If it wasnt for the break between s5 and s6 I woudlnt even watch the show purely because of her. Shes terrible.
