Hello guys, I was thinking of taking the plunge and getting a mechanical keyboard after never having one before. I was hoping one of you keyboard pros could help me pick out a nice quality one, that is not too loud. I would appreciate if anyone that is willing to help would pm me! Thanks in advance!

The WASD V2 is nearly out. Definitely worth having a look at, though if customising keycaps isnt a priority then there are cheaper offers.

I was hoping to keep my cost under $100 and do you recommend wasd keyboards as an entry level to mechanical?

I was planning in getting 10key since I use that pretty frequently. Do you have any recommendations for switches that aren't to loud and are good for someone new?

Brown is the safest bet. But just read up on them and decide which you think you will like, ideally go into a store and try them.

Ahh, turns out white switches are too stiff for me, so I'm gonna have it exchanged for a brown switch version instead. Ducky G2Pro with PBT caps :D

Mine are dyesub caps, though I don't really know what that means PBT is a type of harder plastic. It will take MUCH longer to wear or 'shine' than ABS plastic keycaps. There is also, Polycarbonate, POM, and some rubber keycap hybrids and even (usually) custom straight alloy, zinc and metal-plastic hybrid keycaps.
Dye-sublimation is a type of printing for the legends on the keycap. Opposed to Laser-infill, engraving, or '2-shot' molding with 2 different colored plastics to create the legend: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7065/6819650402_c6238f5be5_z.jpg
The company QWERKEYS has also a new type of 'uv' printing that allows dye-sublimation style images to go on darker colored keycaps. Which is impossible for standard dye sub of say, a team logo on dark keycap.

So I take it I'm gonna have a sick motherfucking keyboard. At least it's an upgrade from my 6GV2 with blacks Can't wait to feel the browns

Ducky Shine 3 is now available for preorder those who are interested. I'm sad they only have the aluminum body on the YOTD, hopefully they'll change that later to include the Shine 3 too. If only I had the money I'd pre-order QQ, college life is so expensive.

Hey guys I'm thinking about getting a new keyboard. I'm kinda think of a 87 key one because my 104 das keyboard is pretty big and heavy. So I'm wondering if its worth getting a new keyboard.

So I'm wondering if its worth getting a new keyboard. "Worth" is a vague term. Obviously you already have a working keyboard, and a mechanical one at that, so a new keyboard would only be a luxury. Are you going to get the same switch type, or different? Do you feel you need more desk space for study/other work? If you buy a new keyboard, what would you do with your current one?
For instance, I recently picked up a Leopold tenkeyless with blue switches (coming from a Ducky Shine 2 with red switches). For me, I enjoy being able to have my hands a little bit closer together while I'm gaming, but that alone isn't a huge benefit. I did, however, really like the change from red switch to blue switch, and now I'm looking to sell my Ducky keyboard. So that made the purchase worthwhile to me.
My advice is this: if you're buying the tenkeyless just to have that tiny bit of extra space and you're sticking with the same switches, it might not be a worthwhile purchase. However, if you're getting a different-sized keyboard with different switches to try it out, you could really find the purchase worthwhile. If you end up preferring the keyboard you have now, just send the new one back or sell it on to a friend.

Like I mean I've had the das for around 2 going on 3 years soon no problems with it but a smaller keyboard would be pretty nice. I'd probably still keep this keyboard for like my laptop and to travel with even though its really heavy it makes for a nice keyboard to bring around if i need to. Also the glossy finish also gets old fast. I mean it makes you want to not clean the keyboard as much since its always gonna look dirty. Also just for the sake of knowing what are the main differences between a filco keyboard and a ducky one since those are probably gonna be the ones I buy if I do decide to get a new one.
