Mechanical keyswitches are rated for longer operation than rubber domes: Fact. Rubber domes tend to wear down and feel increasingly mushy along their lifespan, something that doesn't happens with mechanicals: Fact. Mechanical keyboards are, overall, of a higher quality in terms of construction, which is offset by a higher price: Also a fact. There is nothing about this that is down to personal opinion. The difference between cherry and costar stabilizers however, is completely based on just that. I guess I just don't understand how people undervalue consistency in switch feeling after spending time to find the perfect switch for them (mx red, blue, brown, rubber dome etc.)

While I like the blank black look, probably looking to throw all white keys in there for now before I start manually modifying future mech boards that I'm interested in trying. How long ago did you buy the Das? They have updated their design recently or does it have media functions? or on the bottom row of keys near the spacebar, are they all the same size? or are the windows and fn/menu keys smaller than the ctrl and alt? (1x unit-width bottom row keys are not made by WASD). But if they're all the same size on either side of the spacebar then they are all 1.25x width... and a WASD set works fine.

Also from people who have a similar keyboard, do you find that you need a wrist rest?

Cleaning keycaps individually can be done with denture cleaning 'tabs'. Personally I would prob just use paper towels and a big jar of warm lightly soapy water. For the body I just use a lightly damp napkin. If its a high glossy surface (das, older razer) good luck not scratching it... as it is merely plastic. @Oblivious you could try posting that in their vendor forum on geekhack; http://geekhack.org/index.php?board=135.0 ....or try; ye 'ol customer support.

I hated how much stuff ends up inside the keyboards and becomes such a chore to clean. With these solid based keyboards a bit of air does wonders.
