Guys,
I thought I'd share this. I got my Rosewill RK-9000 mx blue a week ago and just now, I was browsing Newegg.com and found a deal on MX brown. I just had to do it man. You can't possibly beat this deal! I picked up CM quickfire pro mx brown for $55 lmao. I didn't care about the fact that I just got a board because I simply couldn't resist the deal.
Keyboard is priced at $99, then you get a prepaid visa for $20 rebate plus extra $25 off promo, oh to top it off, it's free shipping. Rebate is going to end tomorrow so if you are serious, then jump on it. The deal started today!
For your convenience, I am gonna provide you the link.

It was basically shit on, because they provided no comparison, videos, or anything. Personally by myself as well. Looking at it now it seems like they just used alps switch with something that prevents it from bottoming out, if not dampening the sound. It honestly didn't sound that different from any keyboard with o-rings. Although I admit it is sort of quiet. However compared to o-ring modified keyboards, I'm not sure.

It's not made by the same manufacturers as the QFR series. The QFP series are made by iOne. The same people who gave you the Razer BWU. Personally I like the keyboard as it was a cheap, full-sized brown switch keyboard. Although, mines has an uneven height distribution between the bottom left corner of the keyboard and the top right, which makes it able to slightly rock back and forth. I'm not sure if mines was just unlucky, a poor batch of keyboards, or just universally true. The other thing is they don't use the same rubberized keycaps as the QFR. You'll most likely find a decrease in satisfaction with the ABS keycaps they used instead. Their keycaps have problems with grease retention. It's a bit annoying, so absolutely refrain from eating greasy foods with your hands and using the keyboard. Other than that, $55 is an amazing deal. I had to pay $100 for mines several months back. If anyone wants to try out a cheap keyboard with brown switches, I'd definitely say to go for it. You won't find many others that cheap.

Yeah, I mean at that price, you just can't go wrong with it. I don't mind ABS keycaps as I have been using SteelSeries with ABS and my newest edition of Rosewill RK-9000 blue uses ABS. Also, some said that this keyboard is manufactured by the company that makes Filco but I think you are right about how this is made by iOne company. My Rosewill, however is made by the company which makes Filco. I love my Rosewill board and for the priced I paid ($74), I just can't complain much. As far as this board goes, I bought it only because of the fact that I wanted a board with MX Brown and a bit fancier when compared to both SteelSeries and Rosewill. For $55, you just simply can't go wrong. Hell, it is cheaper than Razer Blackwidow, which ATM is priced at $69.99. I was actually debating between this board and Ducky 1008S MX Brown, but as it seems, they are out of stock on Tankguys so.... I think I will be happy with the purchase.
All in all, I just wanted to share the deal with folks out there on TL.net.

Any helpful hints and suggestions. I have never owned a Mechanical keyboard before, and am kind of overwhelmed at all the information I have been finding when I look at keyboards.
Ducky Shine with anything but Blue switches. It won't be silent but it wont be loud, add orings if you need it to be more quiet. It will be the upper range of your budget.
If you can live without backlighting that makes everything cheaper and widens your range.
Impressive from CM, so its same build quality as the original QFR?

I'm not sure about build quality, but it's not made by either iOne nor Costar.

Thanks for the link, been looking for something like that for a while. Another question though, despite the site also selling a nice blank blank keyset, are there other places where I can get keys with preferably different colours (UK)?

Can anyone explain how red switches feel in comparison to the others? I have tried blue, brown, black, membrane, and scissor switch laptop keyboards as points of comparison. I've read guides before and watched some videos but I would rather have someone explain through their own experience. Thanks dudes!

You need less force to press the key.

Hi, i'd like to buy a mech Keyboard for myself (my first one) but i don't want to make a mistake (Razer?). I saw the "Best value/quality boards" on the OP. Is this list still ok or there's new features on the market ? I was looking for a "Ducky 9008G2 PBT Keycaps, MX Brown" but i don't know if it's the best choice right now. I'm from Europe (France), where should i buy it? I need your advices please , thanks : ) !

Hey guys, I'm looking for a mechanical keyboard, but the thing is, I'm no pro, that's for sure, so I don't want anything crazy or over the top. Just looking for something comfortable for extended periods of use.
I'm very new to all this technical stuff for keyboards, so what would you guys recommend for someone just looking for something comfortable and responsive? All this switch talk is so confusing to me!
I see most of the mechanical keyboards are going for around 100$, is there anything cheaper than that and that is still pretty decent quality? (im not really looking for the best of the best here)
Thanks TL!

There are 4 common switches cherry mx blue, brown, red, and black. Of those I would recommend blue or brown. Do you want a loudish clicky sound when you type? Go blues. My first mechanical keyboard was blue and I loved it. If not, then go brown. Both are very pleasant to type on and pretty common amongst mechanical keyboards. I've tried blacks and I personally enjoyed using it but I have friends that really dislike them. I haven't tried reds but they aren't as common as these three so no need to worry about this one.
As for cost, there are keyboards under 100$ but there comes certain risks. As you read through reviews oftentimes there is problem that most people posting complain about. You have to realize this is only the vocal portion of buyers. Whether it is the minority or majority is the risk you face when buying.
The Razer blackwidow (blue switch) is pretty cheap and a decent number of people use it. There may be some build quality problems but I am not sure how frequent they are. Link
My first mechanical keyboard was the iOne scorpius m10 (blue switch). It was like 70$. I read several reviews saying the build quality wasn't great but mine was completely fine upon unboxing and still functions fine 2 years in.
I'm not sure what online stores you shop at so I can't really search more for you. If you want to wait, you can monitor this thread and good deals might surface.

(im not really looking for the best of the best here) Thanks TL! If you don't mind not having a ten-key-less keyboard then the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid should fit well into your criteria. If you want a full-sized keyboard, there aren't really any keyboards that are cheaper than $100 without having it being terrible. The only one that I can think of is the Razer Blackwidow, but stay away from that. I suppose you could snatch up a CM Storm Trigger, but I feel as though I sound way too much like a CM fanboy when I say this (even though its true :3, but it should be of equal quality to the Quickfire Rapid as the same manufacturer makes them). Anyways the CM Storm is one of the cheapest mechanical keyboards with solid build quality on the market.
As for switch types, I'd just generally say for people who don't know to go with either blue switches or brown switches. Quite simply the difference between these two are the following: blue switches have a clicky sound and a tactile bump (or resistance, whichever makes more sense to you) when you press down on any key. Brown switches only have the tactile bump/resistance. Blues are louder than browns, but not by a significant amount. So if having a quiet keyboard is of necessity, you should say so and maybe you may want different switches or an addition of O-Rings to them (which are very easy to install).

Gosh I spend too much time writing my blocks of post. Ninja'd! Anyways regarding your similar claim to Razer and the reviews about iOne..it's not that all of them are eventually going to malfunction on you. However, its much better to spend your money on a product you know will last and has a good reputation of quality products. It's just those risks you have to be concerned about. I know some people who still use their Razer keyboards just fine and they like them. iOne makes Razer keyboards, but they've gotten stuck with the reputation from several poorly-made keyboards they've manufactured, Razer keyboards being one of them. My Quickfire Pro is made by iOne and I absolutely love it, but there are a few things they could improve on.

Still no help for me :3 ?

Wow, thanks a lot to both of you for the great info!
I've been looking at newegg.ca since after I posted, and the Black Widow and the CM Storm Quickfire both caught my eye, so it's pretty funny you guys offered me those same 2 models!
So it will most likely be a blue switch for me, since it's my first mechanical keyboard and I don't really know what I'll prefer. And if the noise seems too annoying, i guess I can just buy those O-Rings to quiet them down.
I'm going to keep looking around for the best price i can find for the models mentioned earlier.
Thanks again for the explanations and the info! I'll post back here if I end up buying one!

You may want to read our posts if you haven't yet. The Ducky is still a good choice if you can afford it. I'm sure you'll love PBT caps as well, I certainly love mines. They feel like really fined-grained sand is the best way I can describe them. If you head over to DeskThority you're much more likely to get a better response than here where most of the frequent posters are from the United States and Canada. The only one I think that's from the EU that posts here on an occasional basis is Fragile. Anyways if you're really keen on finding good European websites that has quality mechanical keyboards, I'd direct you to DeskThority. They're community is full of Europeans. http://deskthority.net/
