There is absolutely nothing you can do to change that and a better video card won't change a thing. The only solution is to overclock your CPU. That's why you paid extra for the "K" and Z77 so... start by doing a mild OC (like just increasing the multiplier to 42, disable turbo, leave everything else on auto - especially voltages - it should be stable). That'll increase your minimum FPS by quite a bit. This is all assuming you have some aftermarket cooling, of course. What? He's got a high end i5 ivy bridge and you don't think that should be able to run SC2 above 30FPS on all Low settings? With everything on low he should be getting stupid high framerates, unless he left something like physics set on high. Also, the ivy bridges have been proving to get pretty hot when overclocked. Without an after market cooler I would not suggest trying this. xeo1, open a new thread. This isn't really a simple question and trying to keep up with answers spread out over 3 pages is going to be annoying as hell. If you can, run something like a 3D mark or a PCmark just to give everyone a baseline idea of what type of performance you're getting out of your hardware.
Come on Toast, why are you putting words in my mouth?
I didn't say "I don't think that should be able to run SC2 above 30FPS on all Low settings" or "overclock without aftermarket cooling".
I do agree that "about 30 FPS" in maxed battles does sound a little low, but we need more info. Like what that maxed battle looks like (lots of big units or small ones) and his temps.

How do you set up a stream on teamliquid?

What are the most balanced intel processors for a 6670 gddr3? 7750 ggdr5?
|
So I recently got the 3570k and I've noticed in CPU-Z the processor only goes up to 3600mhz at 100% load (100 buss speed 36 multiplier) anyone know the reason why? I thought the 3570k goes up to 3800 mhz with turbo boost?
|
Would you recommend switching an Nvidia gtx 430 (2 gigs ram) or the AMD Athlon ii x2 (2,79 ghz, 2 gigs ram) for playing sc2 at 60+ fps in 800x800 (4v4 huge scale battle) on atleast low(Prefferably medium, max 1280x1024)? With the same socket as the AMD that is.

Turbo frequency partially depends on how many cores are loaded.

Get rid of the CPU, but it's better to wait until you can actually move up to a superior socket. Save up some money and move to something Intel, socket 1155.

That depends on resolution and what you want to do with the PC, and is not particularly simple unless you narrow down the scope of the question a bit.

What options would I have if my graphics cards is overheating (again)? And I don't want to have to pay $25 to RMA it (again), and get the same card with the same cooler. Because if I RMA this card again, I could have gotten a 6950 for the same price and a better cooler. The card is a HIS Radeon 6870. I've checked temps in MSI Afterburner, and I got 80C while playing SC2, more while playing something more demanding like Crysis.

My resolution is 1280x1024 (using an 8-year-old 17-inch monitor, 60hz)
I want to play games at medium or higher settings (without intense filtering, shadows, water effects, or other extras), watch streams, youtube, and other videos smoothly at 720p or higher, leave 10 tabs open while browsing the internet.
Out of the intels with low thermal design power (<95W), which ones are the best for a 6670 gddr3? For a 7750 gddr5?

Does SC2 run better in windowed mode or normal, or doesn't it matter ? (= I have old computer, would the game run better in windowed mode than in normal?)

Windowed mode will perform worse than normal fullscreen.

Hello, Im wondering why some games that I play on my laptop increases the temperatures more than other games. Example, League of legends runs at 70C, SC2 runs at 80C and BF:BC2 runs at 90C. [Ambient temps are around 22C] It is running at 1080p all games max (SC2 on high).
Im using the default 1080p monitor on the laptop for game and a external 1600x900 VGA monitor for viewing streams etc. while playing if this affects the temperatures at all.

The higher the load, the hotter the temps... Kind of normal.

Sry I forgot to mention that the temps only apply to the cpu (i7-3610QM) the gpu stays around 70C for all games. Im sorry I forgot to mention this =/ but isinit SC2 more cpu dependent than BF:BC2. How come the temperatures are still higher.

LoL is less CPU dependent than SC2. Battlefield is more CPU abusive compared to GPU abuse than most shooters, so depending on the circumstances I could see it, especially since SC2 is definitely only using 2 threads, and IIRC, doesn't BC2 thread better than SC2?

Hmm, Ok, Thank you very much for helping me (again =p) Im going to consider lowering the settings to avoid the 90C range.

Is cleaning your cpu, gpu and rest of case ok to do with a normal brush?

If you mean cleaning heatsinks and cables, yes, if you mean cleaning chips and circuit boards, no.
