Do you get shitty framerates the moment you open up xsplit? Like before you even start streaming?

Let me know if you find a solution. I have a similar problem with my i5. But even if I get something to start streaming while playing at 60 FPS I get massive stuttering. No idea what causes it.

Im beginning to think there is no solution and everyone has it. But the people who claim to not have this issue are just oblivious. Ive very rarely seen anyone have this issue and then fix it.

Its usually the same people who cant see screen tearing when there is no vsync.

I've been running a dual screen lately and I'm really happy with it, usually I have a stream or some form of music on my secondary screen.

When I fullscreen a stream on my secondary screen and it's muted, if I perform any action on my main screen it will leave fullscreen on my secondary. This does not happen if the audio is on (twitch and own3d both have this)
I would like to have a stream muted and fullscreened while still being able to do stuff on my main screen, thanks in advance for any help.

In case it's needed, since I'm fairly clueless when it comes to computers:

If I am not mistaken this is a problem with Adobe Flash.

Flash is not really supported very well, not even by Adobe. So I don't know how to fix it, but i have seen this problem asked about before all the time. And I think very rarely was a solution ever found.

I hope someone chimes in with good news, but the best I can do is point you at the problem, pretty sure its Flash.

I usually just pop-out the stream, and resize the window. For anything without a pop-out button, I swear a lot.

I haven't encountered your problem but I often use separate browsers for each monitor and an emulated taskbar to avoid problems.

Flash is not really supported very well, not even by Adobe. So I don't know how to fix it, but i have seen this problem asked about before all the time. And I think very rarely was a solution ever found.

That's very helpful I think I'll do that for now until I find a solution, thank you.

seperate browsers as in like, chrome and firefox? Might try that.
Could you recommend me some good software for an emulated taskbar? Thank you.

Yes, two different browser programs.

The software I use for the emulated taskbar is specific to my monitor, so I can't really recommend anything. But it definitely makes life easier.

A quick google shows some pay options but I don't know if there's good freeware or not.

about this; i've noticed capturing a smaller game resolution lowers the framrate drop that xsplit causes. 2560x1440 is unbearable, it's almost tolerable at 1080p, but i notice no difference at very low (480p and under) resolutions.

I really wish there was a solution.

Got a few questions, thanks for answers.

1) Plugging usb's into a laptop, would it cause more heat? (because of added power consumption) im talking things like gaming mice / keyboards and headsets. (spectre, blackwidow ultimate and carchiaras is his setup if u need specifics)

2) Underclocking the laptop GPU, would it decrease temperatures at load? or increase?

3) Laptop cooling pads, are they worth it? Ive seen an awesome mesh one with 3x adjustable fans (speed and location) which looks good, but does it have an effect? (If i was to have them sucking air from the vents etc)

4)If they all give little to no effect, is it better to just buy one of those silly roll up silicone mats for it?

Thanks! boy im glad i have a proper tower..heat? lulz. dont know what that is

2. It won't make much of a difference. I can halve my GPU's clock in my desktop and idle temps only drop 3C. In a laptop you might get 5-7C but it's not worth the performance hit.

Answers to your questions in order:

1) Probably not anything noticeable. USB power is ~5v, with a maximum load of 500ma for USB 2.0. Most devices are going to be significantly less than that even, so the power consumption is going to be pretty small compared to other system components like the CPU. It could theoretically cause more heat, but I highly doubt it would be any amount that would be noticeable or even measurable with any reasonable margin of error.

2) Yes, it should decrease tempuratures. Of course it will also reduce performance. Undervolting (read: different than underclocking) the CPU might be a better option as you can reduce temps a bit without (theoretically) affecting performance. I've never done it myself, as I've never felt the need to risk damaging my only functioning PC. If you do it, just make sure you know what you're doing and you've read through several guides.

3)Yes and no. Yes in the sense that they will reduce temperatures. But no in that they won't decrease temps more significantly than just setting the corners of the laptop on something that raises it above the surface it's sitting on. A few years ago Cnet did a test of some of the most popular cooling pads on the market, and found the most successful one was a passive cooling pad. Basically a metal tray that did just what I was talking about before, set the corners of the laptop on risers. Turns out that just ensuring better airflow can be just as effective as blasting air on the thing. Some of the new models on the market may be a bit better, but still probably not worth the money.

If you want, setting up a small desk fan to blow across your laptop can help too, and the $5 price tag is a lot better than $30 or so for a "cooling pad".

4)No.

Thanks very much he likes the idea of a proper "cooling pad" so he'll probably order that 3 fan thing i mentioned - it looks pretty awesome, i'll let him be my guinea pig for my wifes lappy, if it works i'll get it for hers xD

I'll try slightly underclocking his GPU (maybe 5-10%) and test the temperatures and performance, see what pans out, no harm done really - the CPU isnt the problem, its his GPU jumping up to 95oC underload, CPU is about 60 (rofl.) So i'll leave that alone.

I'll test the USB's with my gear and see the temps, guess its the only thing i can do for him, if you say it shouldnt matter then awesome xD guess i wont see much of an effect.

Cheers for the help

The thing is, most laptops (did you mention the specific model somewhere? I'd actually be interested in hearing about which make and model it is you're having such heat troubles with) actually share one heatsink between the CPU, GPU, and northbridge. So if you cool one of those down, it should in theory affect the temps of the others. There is no one "correct" answer on dealing with that issue though, it partly depends on what games/software he's utilizing and the specific design. But I just wanted to make sure you knew the relationship between these things.

Hey,

my monitor is dead^^, so i need a new one.

Which one should i choose?

I´ve got circa 100-150 Euro, it should have dvi input and should be16: 9 (1920x1080) adn a short reaction time (2ms).

What do u thin about this one? http://www.amazon.de/LG-E2351VR-Monitor-Reaktionszeit-mattschwarz/dp/B005JRIPC4/ref=sr_1_3?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1340822525&sr=1-3

Thats all

Thanks in advance

LukasG

I have post it in the Monitor Thread, but i wasnt sure if it was in the right forum

Its a specially built laptop from "Pcspecialist" - Optimus 3 (or something to that effect) on their website 15.6 inch.

Similar to my wifes (her's is an optimus 2) which ive had the opportunity to open up and clean (he didnt want me to unscrew the damn thing. -_-) From what i "could" see, the GFX is directly under the fan on the left of the laptop, with copper pipes heading closer towards the center-back of it, which is where i assume the CPU is. Im actually not too sure though as i didnt pay much attention, i just sprayed the shit out of it with compressed air. If i convince him to let me do his this way (instead of just through the air vents.on it) i'll let you know.

But yeah, i was aware it all shares the same cooling and such, often very close to eachother (right?) which is why i found it funny his CPU reads such low temps

Ah, that explains it. I would've been pretty surprised it a major name brand was overheating that badly. Most still get very hot, but are tested sufficiently so that even at maximum load the cooling system is just barely enough to keep the hardware in safe limits.

And I agree with him, don't open it. there's going to be very little if no air flow throughout the system, meaning that there isn't going to be any dust to clean from the inside. It may be a bit easier to clean the heatsink, but it's also very easy to damage something. Blast it out with air from the bottom angled towards the exhast vent on the side. Combined with using a paper clip to clean between the fins near the exhaust vent you should be able to get 90% of the dust without needed to open the thing.

Yep, exactly.
