Also, their base price with shipping puts them in the Filco range, so it's only worth it if you can get the student discount (24% off). The M1 has terrible build quality - it gave a bad reputation to mech keyboards when it was sold for $20 bucks a while ago and a ton of people bought it. I have never had this problem. unless fast is considered like, less than a year. ive had it for about 3-4 months now and it still looks and feels exactly the same. just every few days i will use the included cloth and wip around the edges to shine her up a bit. I realize people think its expensive relative to other mechanical keyboards, but it is an amazing keyboard non the less.

The only knock on them is that quality control has been suspect. That being said... Most people on the Geekhack boards absolutely LOVE their Ducky's. The 1087 models are very popular and the limited Tiger edition that they offer (with mixed switches) seem to be a great choice as well. The people over at Geekhack know their stuff, who knows how many keyboards they've purchased over the years ![]()

Also, I don't know way to much about mechanical kb's, but from the last hour reading I've come to the conclusion that I want a blue-cherry, and that this is supposedly best choice because of good quality compared to price. Alternative is Blackwidow, but I believe the Rosewell to be a better choice (if it's possible to get, that is). If you have a third suggestion, I'm open for that!

If you have a third suggestion, I'm open for that! afaik rosewill is a copy of filco w/ different name. the difference between a filco (with blues) and a razer though would be: keycaps. basically, filcos use very high quality, soft/smooth keycaps (much like soft-polycarbonite phone cases) whereas razer uses very cheap grainy keycaps that you would find on a stock dell keyboard that comes for free with a purchase. however, the switch inside both keyboards work be the same.

Alternative is Blackwidow, but I believe this to be a better choice (if it's possible to get that is). You would have normally found the keyboard at NewEgg.com. It is unfortunately currently out of stock. This has happened before, so I'm guessing that they will put it back up again. I strongly encourage you to wait for it. For only $100, you are getting a near Das S/Filco quality. I was in the exact same position as you before, except back then there was a sale on the BW for $60. I chose to pay $40 more for the Rosewill, and all the threads and posts about people having problems with their BW have just made me more and more sure that I made the right decision. If you are a student though, I highly recommend you go look over Das Model S keyboards (daskeyboard.com). If you are completely fine with having a shiny case that will get smudged upon (read: you are too lazy to clean your keyboard), then the Das would essentially be the same price. And there was some talk about letters wearing off on keycaps: it happens to all the boards. It happened to my Rosewill, it happens to Das keyboards, and it even happens to Filcos. The only thing you can do is buy a better set of keycaps and spend an hour replacing your keys. Honestly, it doesn't affect performance at all, so why does it matter so much?

Newegg has the RK-9000 with Cherry MX Red switches, for $130 but you get back a $30 newegg gift certificate. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201044 I know that reds can be a little hard to find so I thought I'd share. The MX Blue version of this board gets great reviews, so the Red is probably pretty good too.

The blacks I really liked, it was my first keyboard, however, when I broke them I had to replace w/ browns because that was all that was available. I became accustomed to the force from browns but always liked the feel of blacks (the linear part). So about a week ago I purchased a leopold red. I love it. Its like the force of a brown with the action of a black switch. Although reds are my preference, all keyboards are different, and honestly, you need to try all to figure out which one you want. advice: if you like the steelseries/thermal take(both of thee manufactures use only black switches) keyboards feel, but not how much force they take to actuate, go for reds. else, go for browns or blues
