I recently purchased this keyboard, although I haven't gotten it yet, it's my Christmas present. Technically my dad bought it but w/e.
![[image loading]](http://images17.newegg.com/is/image/newegg/23-201-040-TS?$S300$)
Based on everything I've read and researched on this keyboard it is made by the same manufacturer as filco majestouch's(it has cherry switches) and has the same quality with a much lower price tag. I am soooo excited to use this keyboard.
I'm not making this thread to discuss it as a keyboard, although feel free to do so, but instead I wanted to let you all know that this amazing keyboard is right there up on Newegg for only $100. I would really suggest this to anyone that wants a Filco but hasn't been able to get one because of the price/availability.
The only possible drawback on this keyboard is that you can only get it with blue switches, personally blues are what I wanted so when I found this keyboard I was ecstatic.

its also on newegg's sister site chiefvalue I've been waiting for a sale...they were at $70 or so sometime earlier this year
let us know how it is when you get it the reviews on the egg are great as well
|
^Yeah, it was on sale for $70 before.
The only thing I don't like about it is its logo. =/
|
Thanks for letting us know. I was beginning to think it would be a while before I could get a Filco.

Yea one of the reviews I read said something about getting it for cheaper, so if your looking for this board even cheaper make sure to look around because you might find one.
I'll definitely let you guys know how it is when I open it on Christmas :D, or beforehand if I can find out where my parents hid it.

Nice, the more mech keyboards the better.
Blue is good, but man, MX Brown switches are really pretty hard to come by right now since EK sold out of the Filco Majestouch.
Seems like every mechanical in the US is either blue or black switches.

|
Who remembers the ABS M1? This is the same keyboard, albiet $69 more.
|
Because everyone wants a flico like the fruitdealers and das keyboard doesn't look like a flico at a distance.
On December 11 2010 16:26 Loser777 wrote: Who remembers the ABS M1? This is the same keyboard, albiet $69 more. ABS is a in house brand to newegg similar to rosewill. The craze here is not at all based in any science that the mech keyboards will play better for a game like sc2 then a cheap membrane one, but totally based on OMFG that programmer used it!
|
It's because FruitDealer used a Filco.
The Das Keyboard, ABS M1, and the Filco are both manufactured by Costar (which iirc is some Chinese brand)
However, the ABS M1 is NOT the Rosewill keyboard. The ABS M1 used ALPS Black switches which have like a 65g activation force while the new Rosewills have Cherry Blues.
|
can i get the red esc/wasd keys for the filco and use it on the das? are all cherry keycaps the same?
|
I am also really interested in hearing if this is a good keyboard. I was really interested in getting a keyboard from flico with blue keys! So if reviews are good i could hit a jackpot with this!

As far as I know no one got this board for $70. I was the guinea pig and argued with Chiefvalue when their $70 original coupon didn't work because the item was deactivated.
Coupon expired before item was reactivated, got a $25 courtesy credit after order. This stacked with a $3 off coupon that I could use on the order (since the $25 wasn't a coupon, it was a credit back to me, so it bypassed the one coupon per order rule).
A couple days later it was $75.
Then it was $99 for a few days. Back to $85 without coupon, free ship on CV and $8 ship on Newegg.
Then back to $99, but Newegg offered an ABS headset. I know a number of people bought the board, ebayed the headset for $30, and essentially got the board for $70 (but newegg charged $8 shipping).
tl;dr I don't think the board ever actually sold at $70.
On December 11 2010 16:26 Loser777 wrote: Who remembers the ABS M1? This is the same keyboard, albiet $69 more. This keyboard uses Cherry MX Blues (a far superior switch), actually has NKRO, and lacks the build quality issues. I own an M1, this board, and a couple of MX Brown Filcos.

Filco/Rosewill profiles are the same. I know DAS uses the same stabilizers but I'm not 100% positive, ask on Geekhack.

I own a couple Filcos and I was the guinea pig for the RK-9000 and I can confrim the build quality on the RK-9000 is great. It's a Filco in all but brand (a few other inside the box differences; no PS/2 adapter included [but they're 99 cents online and NKRO works over them], braided cable, more durable lasered keycaps...those are the big ones).
Besides, look inside:

A lot of keyboard aficionados look for quality in the keycaps as well, and the Das generally do not do so well in that area - their keycaps tend to get worn and shiny very fast. Also, their base price with shipping puts them in the Filco range, so it's only worth it if you can get the student discount (24% off).
On December 11 2010 16:26 Loser777 wrote: Who remembers the ABS M1? This is the same keyboard, albiet $69 more.
The M1 has terrible build quality - it gave a bad reputation to mech keyboards when it was sold for $20 bucks a while ago and a ton of people bought it.

Yea when I was looking at it a couple days ago they weren't offering the headphones. When I ordered mine like 2 weeks ago they were. I have no idea why.

I've been looking to get a mechanical keyboard for christmas and this is the one I'm probably going to get.
I wanted to get cherry browns but filco's are sold out and I've heard some bad things about das keyboard (plus its really expensive). Hopefully ill still like the cherry blues on this keyboard, some people tell me they're bad for gaming but good for typing? (that part doesn't make sense to me)
Anyway let me know what you think of this keyboard once you get it.

if you want blue cherrys take the razer blackwidow at newegg it costs 50$ if you use this coupon code RAZER1213. the quality of the blackwidow is same like other mechanical keyboards. if you dont like the glossy look then pay 100$ for a ducky, rosewill, leopold.
some people like blue cherrys for gaming some people hate it...
btw what is bad about the filcos o_O

btw what is bad about the filcos o_O Filcos are both expensive and hard to find. I was planning on buying a Filco Majestouch Tenkeyless with MX Cherry Blues, but elitekeyboards is not only out of stock, but has been for a while, and last I read they're not intending to carry them anymore in the future.

yes i know but he said he heard bad things about filcos. i have a filco with brown switches and i love it! for me its perfect.
elitekeyboards will sell the leopold or ducky keyboard or something like that but its the same like filcos.

|
I just got this keyboard a few days ago, its freaking amazing. I do all sorts of gaming, fps to rts and I haven't had any problems with the switches. The only thing I can really see were it wouldn't be good is if you are used to double tapping at a low activation point, but after using them for awhile you will get used to it. I love the sound of this keyboard so much.
|
Question, on that link that someone posted that analyzed this Keyboard, it had the red ESC key. Does it actually? I just ordered this.

Fruit Dealer's Keyboard
To people asking about the Filcos and EliteKeyboards, go to the last few pages of that TL thread. CaptainFwiffo and I detailed most of the information about the Leopold boards that EliteKeyboards is going to have instead of the Filco ones. The TL;DR version is that the original designers of the Filco have a hand in it and it is actually an improvement on the Filco while being just a little cheaper. Basically, be optimistic.

Not to shit on the thread but newegg has the razer mechanical keyboard on sale right now for $56, and the "ultimate" edition for $100. Use coupon code RAZER1213

EliteKeyboards always shipping with a red escape key, but I haven't heard of anywhere else that does it, especially on non-Filco boards. I'm quite sure that you're out of luck unless you go to buy the keycap separately somewhere. It would have been in the product description of wherever you're buying it if it was there.

I know that they're very alike keyboards, but those caps are made specifically for the Majestouch. It's probably fine, but it would still suck to buy it and find that there's a problem with the fit.
Edit: Brain fart. The escape key should be fine no matter what when it's a Cherry MX keycap. I think you only have to worry for the keys that have to fit in a row/pattern.
|
Ok so my parents didn't even try to hide my keyboard, it was just chillin in their room. I opened it up and typed on it a little bit and it seriously felt like magic, and heavy. I didn't plug it in but so far I have 0 complaints.
|
I'm getting one of these for christmas, can't wait!
|
Das decided to go Razer style and make the entire body of the keyboard enclosure glossy.
With the amount of time my hands touch the keyboard I don't want to deal with all the fingerprints and the overall just having to deal with cleaning a glossy surface.
|
I just got this keyboard in the mail today. Typing on it feels really amazing. The only complaint that id have is that its a bit loud. A lot louder than my old keyboard, you can really feel the "click" when typing, and I think I actually type faster and make less mistakes on this keyboard after only having it for an hour.
Gaming on it takes a little bit to get used, I've been gaming on a regular keyboard for 10+ years so of course switching right into a mechanical one will take some getting used to.
The build is really well done. Its really heavy.
For 95 dollars its a really good deal and I don't regret buying it one bit. Just make sure you have some really loud music on while massing ladder on sc2 or you might get a headache from hearing the clicks of the keyboard lol.
If you have any questions about it feel free to pm me.
|
I got mine about a week ago, and then went on vacation for a week so I haven't been using it quite as much as I'd like.
It feels totally natural for me, and once I got over the typing errors (key spacing is slightly different than on my last keyboard) it feels fantastic.
One thing to note: If you hit the caps lock during a game, all the commands you issue will be waypointed. Seeing as I spam click, that game got really interesting. -_-
So, be aware that caps lock being on is apparently the same input as holding down the shift key.
|
Since caps-lock is a useless key in a prime location, it's useful to remap it to something else. Backspace, Control or Shift are popular mappings.

To be honest i don't think it was the mechanical keyboard part that took me a little to get used to it for gaming, its probably just because the layout is different and of course with anything new it takes a little getting used to.

I ordered my Filco from army group and so they actually included a retractable brush in it for free, and I have one of those rocket air blasters (not the duster cans) and I use the plastic cover that goes over the Filco that comes with the box whenever I'm not using the keyboard. So, I don't really have to clean the keyboard, but I do try to keep it clean as much as possible, especially since I spent $160 and I really do not want to end up having to pull all the keycaps off to get the crap that may accumulate underneath it that I have done with other rubber dome keyboards.
As for whether I touch the edges, I probably wouldn't, but still, I don't want to have to deal with it. And I don't know if its me, but anything glossy tends to attract dust like no other. Maybe it's just easier to see, so I tend to stay away from electronics that are glossy in general.
|
|
I am excited for the Leopolds, though I wish other Cherry switches would be used, I am particularly interested in the Cherry MX Clears, I've heard they are like a stiffer Brown. Theres also Cherry MX red which are supposedly easier to push Cherry MX blacks.
|
Just got this keyboard today and love it. I'm a recent convert to mechanical keyboards (this is my first) and I'm very satisfied. Spent a little time just typing on it to get the feel and it's worth every penny. A great price for a great keyboard - the reviews are all dead on.
If you're considering it - go for it. I was on the fence and I'm really pleased with it.
Great work OP! I wouldn't have considered this if you hadn't started this thread!

I was wondering if there was a market for this keyboard anywhere in Australia. I've done plenty of searches on TL and Google but it seems that Newegg doesn't ship internationally and i can't find a store that has this sort of keyboard in stock in Australia.
Would appreciate some help if possible

You may have to go to armygroup and get a Filco which are pricier than the Rosewill.
Geekhack has a guide and translation as to how to order from armygroup, someone translated the webpage and has a step by step.

So this keyboard is going to be available in 2 days on newegg. I've been wanting to get a mechanical keyboard for the longest time now because I've been a gamer my whole life and did not even know about them. I want the browns but there are none around and I am afraid the Leopold will be too expensive, and I also feel that 100$ is a fair amount for any keyboard.
I am only afraid that the blue switches might be too loud, I live alone so I am not worried about it annoying anyone else but me. I normally play in complete silence, occasionally with TV but never with SC2 music or sounds. And is this keyboard really really good for sc2? That is all I care about.

To be honest its kind of loud yea, but if you're in an intense sc2 match or have music on you wont notice it at all.
And its good for sc2, it will take a few games to get used to if you've never used a mechanical keyboard but after that you'll never want to go back to a normal keyboard.
For you I would get some brown switches, it sounds like that would fit you better. The RK-9000 is a great keyboard though, its a bit loud thats the only reason I would recommend the brown switches for you. I think the leopolds are going to be cheaper than the filcos from what I read, I'm guessing like 110-120 dollars+shipping, around there. A little more expensive than the RK-9000 but if you're willing to wait a bit for them I would just wait until you can get some brown switches and pay a little more.
Hope this helps.

How does the rosewill keyboard compare to the razer black widow? The razer is stated to be good for 50 million keystrokes while the rosewill is stated to only be good for 20 million. Is razer stretching the truth or is something else going on?
|
no one will be able to answer your 'endurance' question. the razer hasn't been out long enough really for people to be able to vouch for it as a long-lasting keyboard
|
For anyone still interested in the Rosewill RK-9000, it's back in stock for $100 at both Newegg (add $7.87 for shipping) and ChiefValue (free shipping).
I would bite on the Rosewill after hearing so many good reviews about it, but I'm looking towards getting brown switches over the blue and thus waiting for EK and the Leopold/Archiss to come to the US.

Rubber dome keyboard, not mechanical. Doesn't have the clicky sound and has a mushy kind of tactile feel, which is not what we're discussing in this thread.

that keyboard would suck anyway do to the small backspace key. I seriously don't know why keyboard manufacturers do that.

I just got this keyboard and it feels pretty amazing, although it will take some time to get used to but im already liking it. Now, to use NKRO I need to get a USB to PS2 adapter and use the PS2 input on my motherboard? Also, how hard are these things to clean compared to conventional keyboards?

wish they would ship to aus

Correct.
Cleaning isn't bad - there are dedicated key removal tools you can get (from Elitekeyboards & elsewhere) that will help you remove keycaps carefully; in a pinch, paperclips work too. Any key larger than standard by more than a little (shift, space, etc.) will have stabilizer bars- you pop off the keys carefully with your tool and then move it to one side of the bar, up and off. There are videos on youtube.
Compressed air works fairly well though in my experience. Popping the keycaps is an occasional thing.

Are there any retail outlets in USA where you can purchase this keyboard? Or just via newegg website?
|
You can buy it on Amazon through the Rosewill seller, but Rosewill I believe is the NewEgg in-house brand.
Though at this exact moment, I think they are out of stock.

Oh ok, no physical stores? thats what i meant.
I'm going to be in the states soon but very briefly, and would be much easier for me to just pick it up at a store.

I just got this keyboard 2 weeks ago and it's amazing. I had to RMA because a squeaky back space, it's picky but if you pay 100$ for a keyboard it should be perfect imo. Anyway, it is so good that the week I had to wait for it to come back during RMA period I did not even boot up my computer lol. Did not want to type on that shitty keyboard ^^ so I used my laptop instead.
If you are alone during most of your computer usage I would definitely recommend getting the rosewill!

I just got this keyboard today and it is fantastic, mine also has a squeaky backspace key, but I think I am going to give it a few days to see if it stops.

My mech keyboard initially had a squeaky '5' key, but i just fiddled with the keycap a bit and it never squeaked again O_o.

fiddling with the keyboard is pretty much the solution to any problem you might have with it.
I spilled an entire cup of coffee on my keyboard and after washing it a couple times a couple keys didn't and some were sending multiples clicks.
My solution? for the ones that didn't work I just kept hitting them, the key not the whole board. And the ones that were sending multiple clicks had something to do with the angle or some shit idk but i just pressed really hard with a screw driver on the back of the wafer where the base of the switch pokes through and for w/e reason that fixed it.
but yea don't lose faith if you fuck up your mech keyboard lol, just keep abusing it until it works.

Let me tell you... I wish I had gotten this board over the Steelseries g6 because the right shift key is small on the g6.
|
I was going to get this keyboard, but it was sold out. might get the Rosewill now.
|
lolz I just think the Rosewill mechanical keyboard will piss my girlfriend off when she comes over. I already know my pissmate (we share a bathroom that's it) probably hates me.

On eBay theres a seller that sells primarily DuckyKeyboards.
http://myworld.ebay.com/duckykeyboard/
I found him on Geekhack or something like that.

How is ducky keyboard compares to other brand?

I have never had this problem. unless fast is considered like, less than a year.
ive had it for about 3-4 months now and it still looks and feels exactly the same. just every few days i will use the included cloth and wip around the edges to shine her up a bit.
I realize people think its expensive relative to other mechanical keyboards, but it is an amazing keyboard non the less.

From what I've read on the Geekhack forums, they're an amazing brand that makes awesome keyboards. The only knock on them is that quality control has been suspect.
That being said...
Most people on the Geekhack boards absolutely LOVE their Ducky's.
The 1087 models are very popular and the limited Tiger edition that they offer (with mixed switches) seem to be a great choice as well.
The people over at Geekhack know their stuff, who knows how many keyboards they've purchased over the years

Apologies for bumping this thread, but does anyone know where I can get this keyboard? I'm looking hard but am having a hard time finding a seller. I'm located in the US btw. Maybe someone has a used one they're willing to sell? Might want to PM me about that, since I'm not quite sure if that's against any rules.
Also, I don't know way to much about mechanical kb's, but from the last hour reading I've come to the conclusion that I want a blue-cherry, and that this is supposedly best choice because of good quality compared to price. Alternative is Blackwidow, but I believe the Rosewell to be a better choice (if it's possible to get, that is). If you have a third suggestion, I'm open for that!

If you have a third suggestion, I'm open for that! afaik rosewill is a copy of filco w/ different name. the difference between a filco (with blues) and a razer though would be: keycaps. basically, filcos use very high quality, soft/smooth keycaps (much like soft-polycarbonite phone cases) whereas razer uses very cheap grainy keycaps that you would find on a stock dell keyboard that comes for free with a purchase. however, the switch inside both keyboards work be the same.

Alternative is Blackwidow, but I believe this to be a better choice (if it's possible to get that is). You would have normally found the keyboard at NewEgg.com. It is unfortunately currently out of stock. This has happened before, so I'm guessing that they will put it back up again. I strongly encourage you to wait for it. For only $100, you are getting a near Das S/Filco quality.
I was in the exact same position as you before, except back then there was a sale on the BW for $60. I chose to pay $40 more for the Rosewill, and all the threads and posts about people having problems with their BW have just made me more and more sure that I made the right decision.
If you are a student though, I highly recommend you go look over Das Model S keyboards (daskeyboard.com). If you are completely fine with having a shiny case that will get smudged upon (read: you are too lazy to clean your keyboard), then the Das would essentially be the same price.
And there was some talk about letters wearing off on keycaps: it happens to all the boards. It happened to my Rosewill, it happens to Das keyboards, and it even happens to Filcos. The only thing you can do is buy a better set of keycaps and spend an hour replacing your keys. Honestly, it doesn't affect performance at all, so why does it matter so much?
|
Thanks for the feedback! After further utilizing some google-fu, I've come to the same conclusion as you mentioned, that the Das Model S is a great and very similar product. Since shiny case & letters wearing off are not an issue for me, but patience is ^^, I'm going to go ahead and order me one of those. I spend so many hours daily behind a computer anyways, and have the money to spend, so definitely think this will be a nice investment considering all the positive reviews. It also seems DasKeyboard has a positive RMA reputation, which I like taking into consideration before purchase should it be needed in the future. Thanks once again

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I though that some people might be interested in this.
Newegg has the RK-9000 with Cherry MX Red switches, for $130 but you get back a $30 newegg gift certificate.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823201044
I know that reds can be a little hard to find so I thought I'd share.
The MX Blue version of this board gets great reviews, so the Red is probably pretty good too.

Boards like Filco, Das, and Ducky come from Costar, so they are basically the same boards, but each seller has a different way of marketing said board. Think of Costar like Nvidia for keyboards.

personally, i've had black (filco), brown (filco), and red (leopold) keyboards. The blacks I really liked, it was my first keyboard, however, when I broke them I had to replace w/ browns because that was all that was available. I became accustomed to the force from browns but always liked the feel of blacks (the linear part). So about a week ago I purchased a leopold red. I love it. Its like the force of a brown with the action of a black switch. Although reds are my preference, all keyboards are different, and honestly, you need to try all to figure out which one you want.
advice: if you like the steelseries/thermal take(both of thee manufactures use only black switches) keyboards feel, but not how much force they take to actuate, go for reds. else, go for browns or blues
|
just get a das keyboard, probably one of the best keyboards you can buy atm

don't bump this thread, theres a mechanical keyboard thread where I discuss the rk-9000re price and how its outrageous.
