Hello
I recently purchased GTX 580 and found that my power watt doesn't support the card. I went to bestbuy and purchased Corsair GS700 with the help of the salesman. The PSU came out to be too small for my case.
I'm running on Studio XPS 435T/9000, i7-960 with 12ram.
Can someone help me pick the best PSU for my unit? My understanding is that the more watt the better? Any help appreciated.

in US?
I'd get Rosewill Capstone 550 at 80$
It's a standard PSU so it should fit, really strange case you have in the case it doesn't...
Btw GS700 is shit so consider yourself scammed Oh right but it definitely should fit a... what x_X Actually I'm really confused now >_>
EDIT again: Oh sorry skyr, I meant it's shit if you have a computer with 960 and a GTX 580, as in quite a bad choice

How can a power supply be too small for a case? Can you like elaborate on your problem...
Corsair GS isn't shit but it isn't good.

aaah tyvm skyr for your recommendations , is intel just overall better for gaming in lower level rigs than AMD? it seems to be the most suggested , i was looking at the i3 2100 u recommended for a 100+ a 50$ MB should come out to the same price as the x6100+ free mb as you said, so say i was willing to spurge out another 50 or so, would it be worth upgrading to one of these? and what MB would be good to go with these thats reasonably CHEAP but not knockoff cheap, thanks!
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0359809 ~~ the i3 u recommended, just curious on MB matching
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354590 ~~i5 2400 , 50$ more, worth it?
or the i3 2100T or 2120T for 135$ on newegg
i see the i5 2500 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354589 is 180, i know with MB that comes to 80$ more than the original 150$ i wanted to spend, but realistically, is it worth waiting a week or two to save a couple bucks to just go for the top dog or is the difference from the i3 2100 i5 2400 i5 2500 that different? sorry if these are dumb questions im just not really knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff. was originally just trying to spend 200-250, but if spending 300-325 would really make a difference, i cant argue, thanks in advance!

Intel now holds supreme in every price segment for gaming (except for maybe sub $50...).
For the motherboard, you can just get the least expensive H61 motherboard available to you (given that you're satisfied with the amount of connectors and the warranty / branding / post-sale support of the company) on it. I linked you the Asrock H61M-VS for $55: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157241 You could get Biostar H61MGC as well if you're not bothered by shipping costs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138332
You don't want T or S suffix processors. These are the so called slower "green" processors that are clocked slower to save power.
The core i5 is a quad core while the core i3 is a dual core with hyperthreading. A quad core is only necessary if you intend on streaming or doing encoding / editing. The majority of games only use two cores (which includes Starcraft II and Diablo III) so a core i3 will be fine for a pure gaming configuration.
You don't want a 2500k as the K suffix denotes an unlocked multiplier (aka the processor is intended for overclockers). If you want a quad core than you can get the core i5 2400 which is identical to that of a 2500k minus the unlocked multiplier, a few GHz slower (not noticeable without benchmarks), and a worse integrated graphics (you'll be using a GT430 so the power of integrated graphics won't matter).

The screws won't fit and there's a big gap compared to my original PSU. So basically the power supply is hanging with no support.
Basically the size/dimension of the GS700 is too small for my case.

I googled his case. His case secures the power supply by squishing it into place at the top with a metal tab. I'm assuming the GS700 and these smaller units such as the Capstone 550 are too short for it to be squished so there isn't anything supporting the power supply except for four screws.
If that's the case and he wants to throw money at solving the problem than he would need to buy a longer power supply, those bigger units like an Antec Earthwatts 750 or Corsair HX750 which are like 7" in length.

The screws should fit since your case is standard ATX and the power supply is standard ATX as well. But basically these are your options:
1. Buy a new case (not from BestBuy) that is significantly better. Something like a Coolermaster HAF912 is only around $50. This would be your best option since you can re-use the case for your next build as well (unless you plan on buying another shitty prebuilt).
2. Improvise and lay your computer on its side with something supporting the power supply. This would be your best option if you intend on buying another prebuilt.
3. Buy a much more expensive power supply. Measure before buying...

Guys. I don't think my i3-2100 and 560ti is working as it should. I am getting relatively "lower" fps than I should. Games are never "smooth" meaning when I swipe my mouse from one end to another, there a very slight jutteryness.
This goes for almost every game I play. Included are Tera, TF2, some korean fps games that only require pentium 4... (very old game). Whats going on? You gotta be kidding me if i3-2100 and 560ti combined can't atleast run these games that well. is there a way for me to check if theres something wrong with either component? all are under temperature. it's just so weird... sigh
I get 30fps in combat in Tera using medium setting. around 55fps inBF3? and screen is so skippy and juttery. I feel the graphic lags.

Hi, I was thinking about picking up a couple of case fans for my newly built computer using your advice, I'm using an i5 2400( 103 mhz bclk, 1.165 V, cpu v core gets to 1.24 according to hardware monitor (i didn't adjust this at all other than for using the built in high performance setting on my asus board)), a hd radeon 6870(voltage is at around 1 V) , rosewill capstone 450, and an asus h61 board. The case I have is a coolermaster elite 430 (1 fan only) + using a coolermaster 212+ on my processor, making that a total of 2 fans only in my case.
Currently nothing has really gone to crazy temps, (Ran intel burn test, 10 runs on very high and cpu speeds seemed to top out at 60 C, i think 65 ish when i ran at maximum(the maximum test was a while back so don't really remember anymore) and the GPU seems to max out at around 65 when gaming (though I haven't done anything too graphic intensive yet, only dota 2). I don't believe these temps are too crazy, but I'd like to get a couple of these fans for around 4.5 or so (might split with a friend making it only 1 fan for 2 ish). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200048
The question I have is, does anyone know how much louder my computer will be if I add in one of these fans? (I think it will be running at 2000 rpm, 29 dba all the time since it will be hooked directly into power supply with no way to control speed). Everything should be okay based off those readings even if I don't add a fan right? Thanks for all your help

If its running at 200RPM, it will be loud. If the temps only max out at 65 degrees, you have nothing to worry about.

Did you install all the drivers?

@spscannon
Womwomwom is correct, you have nothing to worry about.
To expand upon that:
Your temps are perfectly safe and adding cheap-ass Rosewill case fans that run at 2000RPM isn't going to prolong the life of your components in any way but it will annoy the hell out of you and make you regret spending $5. Those temps are quite low as it is.

Yea all new drivers. can my motherboard hinder the performance of 560ti? or i3-2100 ? I don't feel like they are maximizing their full potential.
I hear people playin skyrim on ultra but wth not possible for me And changing from i3-2100 for i5-2400/2500 is only about 3~10fps difference I hear in games... so my i3-2100 should have absolute no problem bashing through these games right? on top of that my latest purchase $250 560ti ... can someone help me ?
I think we need to look at the big picture. Eversince I took out my 9800gt and plugged the new 560ti, I experienced usual low fps in tf2 and such games. but a big whooping 50fps boost in BF3. <-- Graphic card intensive.
so many people having similar problem as me. no matter what setting low or ultra same low fps.. and alot of drops. This is just one of them. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/334198-33-usage are you guys sure i3-2100 is not sending 560ti information fast enough? my gpu usage only stays around 30%, and get fps as low as 25fps in tf2.
another thing is 560ti a bad card? or not what people actually say they are. on the forum, he said he had to upgrade his cpu to i7 to get the performance he thought he would get by just simply switching from 8800gt to 560ti....

TF2 is always a problem for people since that game is optimized so shitty and is in general handled very poorly.
Run CPU-z and paste a picture of your CPU results, GPU results as well, while the problems are happening. Or as close as you can anyway. Do the same for temperatures using HWmonitor or whatever (again while the problem is occuring). I know you said they were fine but real values would help a lot.
Also some more information might help us out. Like the resolution and settings you are running at. Also I am not sure what skippy and juttery is especially when you mentioned 30 FPS which is rather smooth, albeit probably less than advertised.

TF2 was made way before Sandy Bridge was even close to being invented so of course not. You should be getting like 200 FPS in that game but Valve has since completely forgotten about that game when it comes to the engine, its basically a hat simulator at this point.

No it is not a bad card and the guy who said he got an i7 is an idiot since an i7 has no benefits over an i5 for gaming and marginal (but real) benefits over an i3 for gaming as well as long as the multitasking is kept low. You are getting 55 FPS in BF3 on what I assume is fairly high settings afterall...

Ok I will get on to it right now. You should see my screen. I was playing Tera online for the past 2 days but it's just horendous, nothing you would expect from my current set up. I tried running both lowest setting to highest setting to see if there is any optimization setup possible but nope. I would get pretty low fps especially in combats where there are only 6 monsters. (20~30fps) also even if I am up 45fps my game never feels smoooth. Like that feeling when you run counter strike with 300fps.
P.S - I surpass recommended setting for that game. by a small margin and yet this problem T_T

Thats not a real benchmark, its just a mockup. This "never smooth" thing is bothering me since 45 FPS should be very playable.
