Hello again everyone, since my last laptop got stolen I'm back in the market. I'm willing to wait a few weeks to try and dig out something of a deal, but since my old laptop I replaced crapped out about 3 days after the new one was taken I can't take much longer than that. The budget this time will be about $1200, and I'll be looking to get similar or better performance than what I had (i7 2670, Geforce 555m, 17.3" 1920x1080 screen, preferably a 7200 RPM hard drive). I got all that last time for $900 after warranty, shipping, and tax, though I don't expect to match what I found after 4 months of searching in 2 weeks. And same as last time, the portability is much too important to me to go for a desktop instead. If we can find one with good cooling that would also be ideal, since I know some "gaming" laptops aren't built to handle their components.

Basically, I'm looking to do better than something like this. The price there doesn't reflect another $250 coupon.

Alright thanks Skyr. Can a 450W (capstone) cover basically any single gpu configuration (without overclocking)?

Sure, unless it's like an i7-3960X, GTX 580, and over a dozen hard drives, and you're running unrealistic stress tests to max out the computer.

It's plenty for running high overclocks on most single-GPU systems.

Thanks!

I dont want to spend no more than 150 for my computer monitor. If their any in Best Buy, Walmart or Frys are prefer store and if not then you can suggest some online deals. Also i need a good keyboard any would due but I want it to last long and cost no more than 40 bucks

No discussion is needed for monitors under $150. Just buy something.

"Good", "last long", and "under $40" do not belong in the same sentence.

Then again, relative to the computer itself the keyboard will "last long" no matter what, right? At least that's been my experience.

I have 2 questions, first, im kinda dumb apparently since i didnt quite understand what you guys were explaining about PSUs, so if i buy something like this:

MICRO I5 2500K , BOARD INTEL DZ68DB , Nvidia 560ti

What should i look for in PSU?

And the other question is if its OK to stick with the intel z68 or go for 30 bucks more with an Asus one.

Thanks for the help :3

A quality ~500w unit such as a Rosewill Capstone 450. Don't know what's available to you in Cuba...

Intel boards aren't made for overclocking so you want to avoid their P67 and Z68 motherboards as there are better options.

Ive purchased everything, except the monitor and the chasis, and because of the bloody PSU, there isnt anything nearing capstone in the name, should i go with any 500w+ one? what else should i look for? the voltage or something like that?

Of course Rosewill is not available in most countries.

Any list of what's available? I'm not particularly familiar with the regional brands and what would be available.

There are a lot of "500W" and higher options that are terrible and may be prone to early failure or damaging computers over time, so it's best not to pick one blindly. There isn't particularly any spec to look for except that you want something that can safely handle at least 30A on +12V or so. Unfortunately a lot of brands outright lie about their specs or deliver the rated power in a poor manner, and so on, so you can't just go by what's printed on the label.

so im basically screwed >< I think ill just surf the web a bit and read a bit more about PSUs till i can make a safe choice by myself.
I think i saw a couple of Coolmaster´s psus on sale so maybe ill stick with one of those, since they are trustworhty brands... the thing is that if something is just labeled Coolmaster here it practically means free overpricing ehe.

Also, im planning on overclocking, which, again ive never even tried in my life, i read a lot since i first wanted to upgrade about hardware (based mainly on this thread´s lists), so basically i selected the parts (i5 2500k + asus z68 + 560ti) cause they were good for overclocking* I havent actually bought them yet, but i have the money saved and already contacted the vendors, am i good with those parts in the overclocking thing?

*wild guesses of course

Coolermaster is not brand trustworthy. Only their Silent Pro line is good, the rest of their units are mediocre or shit.

They should work though shouldn't they? I mean, compared to raidmax or other even shittier brands?

Some Raidmax (like the ones that claim to be 80 plus gold but aren't) are better than most Cooler Master power supplies.

they are selling me this "Cooler Master Silent Pro 850watt 66A" at 200 bucks, more commolny known as What the serious fuck, price concerned.
Any other brands i could maybe look out for? I search silent pro and every item is listed around 170 - 230, i think its too much for a psu

XFX, Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, PC Power & Cooling, and OCZ are your best options for buying blindly.

edit:This one costs 320...just sayin...

That's a Coolermaster Storm Trooper which is a full tower case. A full tower case is unnecessary for the majority of people because they won't have a dozen HDDs, doing a custom loop, or getting a E-ATX motherboard. Just get a mid tower of some sort.

Hy everyone.
Can someone help me with my next purchase?
Last month I bought a intel i5 2500k, asrock p67 pro3, gskill 8gig 1600mhz ripjaws. I have my old gpu 8600gt and a old powersupply.
Gpu is overclocked to 700mhz gpu clock and 800 memory clock.
I have windows 7 ultimate, play on 1920*1080. Computer is used for gaming, no video editing. I play sc2 but i want to play most of the new games.
The question is what should I buy first? Because i cant buy everything at once (im a student). I was thinking of a sapphire hd 6770 but i dont know if my power supply can handle all that. Should i buy the power supply before the gpu?
The last thing to buy is a hyper evo 212 so i can overclock my cpu.
I hope I explained everything and thanks for the help!

So I'm wondering if I should OC my computer some more to increase lategame fps.

relevent comp info:

Intel Core 2 extreme X6800 @3.2Ghz (266*12) (2.93Ghz stock)
CoolerMaster hyper TX3 (only one i could find for LGA775 that looks like it works+was only $17)
MSI P35 Diamond
EVGA 9800 GTX
Corsair CX500 (regret not getting earthwatts 430, but this was on sale at time, and its a corsair...)

I ran Prime95 (albeit for only like 20mins) and my operating temps are between 43C (idle) and 55C (full load).
Oh and my 9800 GTX likes to stay at 63C...like always

Game settings:

All Medium, would play low but can't stand how ff's and pylon powering range looks (and im TERRAN Lolz) with the FPS cap thingy on (kind of pointless to have 180 fps at the start of the game when my monitor is only 60hz).

1280*1024 hp 17" 60hz using VGA because its that old (I've punched it twice while raging and it fixed a dead pixel.. wtf)

So i play the game with FPS shown on (ctrl+alt+f) and late game I drop off to ~45fps (1v1) and ~25 (3v3) in large battles.

Would OCing the computer to like 3.5-3.6 be worth the extra fps and how many fps do you think i would get?
Team Liquid needs more Terrans.

So today my Pc crashed completely and now i want to buy a new one. But for the first time i want to build it on my own. Started studying electrical engineering and thought it wouldnt hurt learning that^^. I am a little afraid to do something wrong and just throw my money away, so could anyone tell me if i am capable to do it by myself or do i need help?
