Ivybridge will be readily available.

the 28nm issues with graphics card doesnt have anything to do with the 22nm cpus intel are manufacturing. They have their own plant fab and they have probably bunkered up with a lot of cpus by now.

Sweet I guess I will hold out for a week or so before ordering

If you want a cheap gamer box full of holes, Zalman Z9 Plus should be one of the best options. Go for it.

like i've mentioned before, i've never built a computer. just upgrade individual parts. so i really have zero idea the importance of a case and how much it would affect my budget build.

In a budget build, the case is important for noise and aesthetics. In a high end build, or if you're in a high ambient temp location, thermals also come in.
Obviously, there's some convenience features and build quality stuff available too, but those are very much a discretion type thing.

edit: wow, get up to go somewhere, come back, and get ninja'd by JH. + Show Spoiler +On April 14 2012 11:09 thisisnotralph wrote: like i've mentioned before, i've never built a computer. just upgrade individual parts. so i really have zero idea the importance of a case and how much it would affect my budget build. It's just a box that you put stuff in. Unless you have some kind of high-end setup with multiple graphics cards or benchmark extreme overclocks for fun, the cooling on any kind of modern case with a normal form factor is going to be okay. It's mostly about aesthetics, ease of installation / adding new parts / cleaning, general build quality concerns (is it going to fall apart?), and noise levels.

Rumor has it that 7970, 7950, and 7770 will all be dropping in price soon.

Yeah, really bizarre. Normally you or skyR ninja me so bad I stopped bothering on half the stuff.

Yeah the 7770 is still bad for the money, the 7970 is simply ok, and the 7950 gets dropped more in line with what its performance looks like compared to the 7870. 7870 is of course remaining the same.

SkyR, you know by how much?

I have a QX9650 overclocked at 4Ghz and I cannot stream using XSplit. Apparently it's too much for my "old" cpu. The OP says "As far as performance goes, there isn't much reason to upgrade from a higher end Core 2 Quad/Phenom II X4/Core i5/i7 as the performance benefits from the Sandy Bridge CPU will not be as noticeable, especially if your CPU is overclocked." But would there be a big difference for streaming purposes? I hear SCII is CPU intensive, and so is XSplit. If so, what should I upgrade to? I would of course be looking to overclock. The main thing that bothers me is I was hoping to skip a whole generation after having bought such an expensive processor back then to get such a good OC. You skipped a whole generation and then some. Ivy bridge is coming out on the 29th. If you want to stream 720p, get an i5 3570k if you want to stream 1080p, you should wait till ivy is fully benchmarked, it might be possible with a 3570k or 3770k, but if it isn't, a 3930k can do this, which is a 6 core CPU on a different socket. I can stream at 720p 30fps 2mbit w/ an i7 930@3.6(ht on) using FMLE. As you have 4 cores, you should be able to stream, just a matter of finding the right quality, probably somewhere between 640x360 500kbit and 1280x720 2mbit.(assuming 16 : 9 monitor) In any case, don't buy an expensive CPU for future proofing, buy for performance you need now. Thanks for the info! I tried FMLE but it doesn't offer me custom res or 16:10 res, which I'm running (2560x1600). I can't drop that resolution in-game, because I am so used to it. I'd like to stream 720p with that gaming res. Do your recs still apply? I have 2mbits upload as well, but the servers from XSplit all give me red-yellow which might be troublesome. You can try streaming at 1280x800 or 1024x640 with your current CPU, a 3570k should stream at 1280x800 easily, and may go higher.

Droped by up to 50 euros here, hd7950 for 360€ and hd 7970 for 430€ 'these being ofc the cheapest, sapphire branded) hd7870 still at 290€and hd7850 same didn't move at 220 hd7770 still 120 euros... while you can find some hd6850 as low as 100 TT clearly those aren't worth it still

Hello everyone! I was thinking about buying and building a computer today. I answered the questions below but Ill give a little more details.
I only need and want to get an i3 2100 processor. I don't have any clue of what else I should get though. PSU, VC, HD, memory, etc
What is your budget?
I don't really have a budget but I want to be economical!
What is your resolution?
I haven't yet bought a screen, so if you can suggest one also that would be awesome!!
What are you using it for?
Just playing sc2
What is your upgrade cycle?
Not sure
When do you plan on building it?
Today!
Do you plan on overclocking?
No
Do you need an Operating System?
Yes
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No
Where are you buying your parts from?
Fry's and just bring in the Newegg prices so I get a better deal!
|
Just to make sure, you're buying from Fry's but want to know newegg prices so as to not get ripped off? Or do they actually price match or allow you to haggle somewhat?
Which Fry's? I don't feel like linking some good deal or product that doesn't exist where you are.
|
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 520 CPU: AMD A4-3420 APU 6,0 Gb of RAM
How good would SC2 or DotA 2 run on this computer?

Yeah I don't want to get ripped off and they price match. Actually, they will price match almost any computer part from any 'big' retailer. I've gone there and said I saw 'this and that' cheaper on the Internet (lies, don't do it kids ) and they just type the product in on google and look at the prices off goggle shopping or whatevers.
I live in San Diego, California. They have almost everything there lol, and if they don't I can get a product similar for the cheapest price just by bringing in competitors ads.
I just don't know what else I should buy other than the i-3 2100.
|
you're gonna have to price match almost your whole build then, i practically live there and their prices are not the lowest for computer stuff.
edit: live at fry's (well not really LOL)
