Also if you are going to buy a $200 board and a 3750k, overclock! At least a bit man, otherwise it's a waste of money.

Any good websites you could recommend. or would a good Google search be good enough.
I recently downloaded prime 95, is that something to do with oc?

Sort of. Prime 95 is a program you can use to check whether or not your CPU is stable after overclocking. I would recommend first checking the first page of this thread. There is a spoilered section on overclocking which could be a good start for you.

Hello everyone,

I am looking to buy a new PC as soon as possible. I am trying to do alot of research(tomshardware) etc etc, but I am quite unexpierenced in these things and not everything makes sense to me and hopefully I can get the last answers in this thread. I live in The Netherlands(Groningen) and most likely the place where I will buy my PC is from www.azerty.nl.
I just made this account on teamliquid and read through all the FaQs/rules and hopefully I am not doing anything wrong, but please tell me if I do something wrong, wouldn't want to get banned after the first post. The kind of games I play most are RTS and (mmo)RPG's with from time to time FPS games
Thanks in advance for reading/posting helpfull stuff.

What is your budget?

My budget would be around 1500 euro's. It might be a few hundred more or less depending if I can get the lowest money/best quality

What is your resolution?

I would like to have 1080P (ratio 16: 9?). Not entirely sure if I understand this question but I think this should be it.

What are you using it for?

I will be using it mostly for gaming and try to stream as much as possible when playing games.

What is your upgrade cycle?

My upgrade cycle would be 2+ years, roughly when computer parts "decay".

When do you plan on building it?

As soon as possible, best case scenario would be today/this weekend.

Do you plan on overclocking?

I wouldn't mind overclocking but it's not required. As I mentioned at the upgrade cycle, I kinda want to upgrade it when stuff dies off and if with overclocking it happens 10 times as fast than I dont want to do overclocking. However if it's "relative" safe to do so, I see no harm in it and I think it would actually be smart to get.

Do you need an Operating System?

I do need an OS, thinking about windows 7, but my brother mentioned a while ago that I can get OS possible really cheap, because of my study. I am not entirely sure(he is on vacation at the moment).

Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?

At first this seemed like a good idea, however I read that there are alot of complications with it and i'm not still sure if I should do it or not. Again if it's relative safe(I dont plan on downloading virusses or smacking my pc against the wall) I would like it.

Where are you buying your parts from?

Most likely it will be www.azerty.nl or if anyone else knows a better/cheaper place to get it.

Additional Information

As mentioned before I have done "some" research before and found various stuff that seems nice, but I am not that great of a computer geek.

CPU: Intel Core i7-2700K Processor (seems to be the best quality/lowest money for the budget)
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 (there are about two million choices but this one seemed quite nice)
Video card: Nvidia 680 (seems to be the best quality/lowest money for the budget)
memory: Kingston ValueRAM(8gig ram) (I have no clue what kind of brand to get and I didnt get any wiser from looking stuff up only that i need/want 8gig )
Harddisk: 120gig SSD for my OS + the game I play most(possibly sc2?). + one or two TB harddisk for the rest of the games/music/movies etc.
Case: I''m not sure which one, preferable one that cools more than enough, is regular easy to open and not too messy(incase I need to switch some parts and or clean all the dust).
Power: I'm not sure how much watt I need because obviously I dont want to overkill but I certainly dont want too have less.
Preferable two monitors. Have keyboard + mouse. I can get dvd players from my brother most likely.

Thanks once again in advance and any help will be a huge help. If I missed anything please note and I hope to answer any questions you might have.

With kind regards,
eXeCurudas

Edit: Annoying smileys popped up.

I have done some more research and currently found this:
Samsung SyncMaster S24A350H - LED-monitor
Samsung Spinpoint F4EG HD204UI 2 tb-
Intel Core i7-2700K Processor
ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3
Nvidia 680
Kingston ValueRAM(8gig ram)
120gig SSD
Cooler Master CM Storm Trooper
Enermax Revolution85+ ERV920EWT

I can get windows 7 probally really cheap seeing im a student. At azerty.nl this is about 1700 euro's which seems to be in my budget, but what do you guys think of this set up, considering my previous (spoiler post)?
thanks

What games do you want to stream? And what games do you want to play?

For SSD you would want, Crucial, Plextor, Intel or Samsung as a brand, other's aren't as reliable.

spinpoint f4 is 5400 rpm no? if you use only for storage that would be fine, if not, a f3, or any other 7200 rpm would be better

case is your personnal preference

and that psu is def overkill, Antec HCG, OCZ ZT/ZS, ... better choises on low budget

Is this a prebuilt or...?

A 920w unit is unnecessary, a 650w unit is fine for SLI.

Just get the 2600k, unless the 2700k is the same price.

You're missing an aftermarket heatsink.

A full tower case is unnecessary.

Playing/streaming mostly new games that are coming out(d3,gw2 etc etc) basicily the ability to play most of the new games for multiple years :D

the 2700 is 20 euros more expensive than the 2600. thanks for your help guys going to update it quite fast

The case might be overkill but I want succifficient cooling and this one i noticed in particilair has a removable dust filter(u dont wanne know how dusty it can get on an old farm..). :D

Also I some people told me i would need roughly 700-800w ish but that more never hurts, unlike having too low power. :S

Edit: You mean pre-build as in I found these seperate parts on my own or just walked into a store and saw this? I found them partly on my own and partly with some help and feedback from friends/tl/own clan/tomshardware. :D

You don't need high wattage if you get a quality psu

20 euros for a 2700k is really not worth it, stick to the 2600k and eat 3 pizzas this weak on us

Those people that told you 800w is necessary for such a configuration are absolute idiots. You'll barely exceed 500w with SLI. Paying more for a lower quality unit that has significantly more wattage than what is needed to run SLI GTX 680 is beyond stupid.

A prebuilt means it's pre-assembled.. it just looked like a prebuilt judging from those components.

Ok thanks. Changed already alot of small things here and there, but how do I spot the difference between a good psu and a "bad" one, would kinda suck if I now get a for example a "bad"psu with only 600-ish watt, if you know what i mean.

You want to add "(not the lower ones)" to Antec, Be Quiet!, maybe OCZ, maybe Silverstone as well. All XFX units are good, like for NZXT, though to a lesser extent. XFX just uses Seasonic's lineup, and NZXT only has Super Flower Golden Green and Seasonic SS-___AM. Also this is missing out on a lot of potentially good deals on equivalent or the actual same units under different brands.

It's better just to check reputable reviews for individual models, anyhow.

Today. Though check if Microcenter as a motherboard bundle deal for cheaper, or something with an equivalent price but with more features. They usually do.

I sort of feared this but I guess other people know otherwise.

http://www.nordichardware.com/news/69-cpu-chipset/45720-ivy-bridge-gets-95w-tdp-worse-overclocker-than-sandy-bridge.html

Seems Ivy bridge is an awful overclocker. Sandy Bridge overclocks way better. More numbers would be better but it looks like my 2500k purchase looks wiser by the moment. They are blaming the new tri gate technology.

Whether or not this means we recommend Sandy Bridge over Ivy Bridge processors for overclockers remains to be seen in my book though.

Base clocks seem fine, but it really ramps up as clocks hit enthusiast levels. Here is more info.

Hmm that'd be really unfortunate

Guess wait for more benchmarks.

Edit:

wtf 2600k @ $200 in Microcenter? Jeeze I was thinking about waiting for an ivy bridge, but that seems like a crazy good deal.

Seems like with the performance being so similar just about anyone looking to overclock is going to be happier with Sandy Bridge. (This is 3770k)
