I thought you just forgot to buy an aftermarket cooler. If you don't want to overclock you can save an additional $40 getting an i5-2400. And about an additional $100 going with a Biostar H61, and about $25 since the stock heatsink is fine. I saved you about $200 which was a lot more than what you were going to spend on the GPU period, at the cost of almost no performance. EDIT: Smart building pays off! http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=541 Over doubled your FPS for no money loss! At least i think you can afford a 7870 now.

The OP says "As far as performance goes, there isn't much reason to upgrade from a higher end Core 2 Quad/Phenom II X4/Core i5/i7 as the performance benefits from the Sandy Bridge CPU will not be as noticeable, especially if your CPU is overclocked." But would there be a big difference for streaming purposes? I hear SCII is CPU intensive, and so is XSplit. If so, what should I upgrade to? I would of course be looking to overclock. The main thing that bothers me is I was hoping to skip a whole generation after having bought such an expensive processor back then to get such a good OC. You skipped a whole generation and then some. Ivy bridge is coming out on the 29th. If you want to stream 720p, get an i5 3570k if you want to stream 1080p, you should wait till ivy is fully benchmarked, it might be possible with a 3570k or 3770k, but if it isn't, a 3930k can do this, which is a 6 core CPU on a different socket. I can stream at 720p 30fps 2mbit w/ an i7 930@3.6(ht on) using FMLE. As you have 4 cores, you should be able to stream, just a matter of finding the right quality, probably somewhere between 640x360 500kbit and 1280x720 2mbit.(assuming 16 : 9 monitor) In any case, don't buy an expensive CPU for future proofing, buy for performance you need now.

I am looking to buy a new PC as soon as possible. I am trying to do alot of research(tomshardware) etc etc, but I am quite unexpierenced in these things and not everything makes sense to me and hopefully I can get the last answers in this thread. I live in The Netherlands(Groningen) and most likely the place where I will buy my PC is from www.azerty.nl. I just made this account on teamliquid and read through all the FaQs/rules and hopefully I am not doing anything wrong, but please tell me if I do something wrong, wouldn't want to get banned after the first post. The kind of games I play most are RTS and (mmo)RPG's with from time to time FPS games Thanks in advance for reading/posting helpfull stuff. What is your budget? My budget would be around 1500 euro's. It might be a few hundred more or less depending if I can get the lowest money/best quality What is your resolution? I would like to have 1080P (ratio 16: 9?). Not entirely sure if I understand this question but I think this should be it. What are you using it for? I will be using it mostly for gaming and try to stream as much as possible when playing games. What is your upgrade cycle? My upgrade cycle would be 2+ years, roughly when computer parts "decay". When do you plan on building it? As soon as possible, best case scenario would be today/this weekend. Do you plan on overclocking? I wouldn't mind overclocking but it's not required. As I mentioned at the upgrade cycle, I kinda want to upgrade it when stuff dies off and if with overclocking it happens 10 times as fast than I dont want to do overclocking. However if it's "relative" safe to do so, I see no harm in it and I think it would actually be smart to get. Do you need an Operating System? I do need an OS, thinking about windows 7, but my brother mentioned a while ago that I can get OS possible really cheap, because of my study. I am not entirely sure(he is on vacation at the moment). Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? At first this seemed like a good idea, however I read that there are alot of complications with it and i'm not still sure if I should do it or not. Again if it's relative safe(I dont plan on downloading virusses or smacking my pc against the wall) I would like it. Where are you buying your parts from? Most likely it will be www.azerty.nl or if anyone else knows a better/cheaper place to get it. Additional Information As mentioned before I have done "some" research before and found various stuff that seems nice, but I am not that great of a computer geek. CPU: Intel Core i7-2700K Processor (seems to be the best quality/lowest money for the budget) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 (there are about two million choices but this one seemed quite nice) Video card: Nvidia 680 (seems to be the best quality/lowest money for the budget) memory: Kingston ValueRAM(8gig ram) (I have no clue what kind of brand to get and I didnt get any wiser from looking stuff up only that i need/want 8gig ) Harddisk: 120gig SSD for my OS + the game I play most(possibly sc2?). + one or two TB harddisk for the rest of the games/music/movies etc. Case: I''m not sure which one, preferable one that cools more than enough, is regular easy to open and not too messy(incase I need to switch some parts and or clean all the dust). Power: I'm not sure how much watt I need because obviously I dont want to overkill but I certainly dont want too have less. Preferable two monitors. Have keyboard + mouse. I can get dvd players from my brother most likely. Thanks once again in advance and any help will be a huge help. If I missed anything please note and I hope to answer any questions you might have. With kind regards, eXeCurudas Edit: Annoying smileys popped up.

Thanks for the info! I tried FMLE but it doesn't offer me custom res or 16:10 res, which I'm running (2560x1600). I can't drop that resolution in-game, because I am so used to it. I'd like to stream 720p with that gaming res. Do your recs still apply? I have 2mbits upload as well, but the servers from XSplit all give me red-yellow which might be troublesome.

Straight Power E9 CM 580W ATX 2.3 (E9-CM-580W/BN198) from €88,33 http://geizhals.at/de/677397 Case: I'm least familiar with those, I know it should be one for ATX sized board and enough room for 2HHDs, 2x 5.25" front slots for 1) DVD Burner, 2) Cardreader+fan control+USB+headset plugs (will use those from older PC). Both, front and rear fans would be nice to secure good airflow. Questions?!? 1) I am also considering to use an AMD CPU + Show Spoiler + AMD FX-Series FX-8120, 8x 3.10GHz, boxed (FD8120FRGUBOX) ab €149,99 http://geizhals.at/de/689394 or something similar different motherboard needed: ASUS M5A99X Evo, 990X (dual PC3-14900U DDR3) (90-MIBFL0-G0AAY00Z) ab €95,94 http://geizhals.at/de/647801 ASRock 990FX Extreme4, 990FX (dual PC3-14900U DDR3) ab €136,79 http://geizhals.at/de/653835 2) Would it be worth to dump a bit more money into a ATI card with more memory, considering massive amount of players in WvWvW in GW2? 3) Will be a 580W PSU enough for this setup? 4) Any case (+fan) suggestions? ![]() Thank you for your help <3 TL A Z77 board is unnecessary since you will not be doing any overclocking. Get a H67 motherboard instead which will be significantly less. An AMD Bulldozer in every case performs worse than Intel's equivalent for gaming, there is no reason to consider it as an option for gaming and some streaming lol. Video memory will not be a concern for Guild Wars 2. The GTX 560 Ti you listed is a regular GTX 560 Ti, not a 448 variant. But I'd pick the 7850. 580w is more than enough for such a configuration, get the 480w variant instead. So I've been to the PC shop of my trust and they composed following offer for me: CPU: i5-2400 3.1 GHz - € 194,99 Board: ASSUS P8H67 Rev 3.0 - € 92,99 GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition OC (7850) - € 251,99 RAM: Elixir 4GB DDR3 CL9 - € 19,99 SSD: Intel SSD 520 Series 60GB - € 95,00 PSU: BeQueit! System Power 700W - € 99,99 Case: GEH Midi Antec Three Hundred Gaming - € 59,99 Front Fan: Artcic Cooling 130mm - € 7,99 ---------------------------- Sum 822,93 Now that I read through it carefully I noticed: they forgot the main storage HDD and made it only 4GB Ram oO. I guess I can save quite a bit money when buying all parts online - and still add a HDD. If someone sees any other hiccup please point this out to me. It will be my first self-made PC ever! edit: added my first post so you can see FAQ and first built ideas+suggestions

you don't need an additional fan, and get a cheap BitFenix case (like shinobi) also an h67 can be found got pretty less then that, or h77 that ssd is good though

Deal stacks with the $50 off any mobo deal as well. Yeah ivy bridge comes out in 9 days but whatever. Overclocking gains haven't been much to speak of so far. Plus, you could theoretically just return the sandy and get the ivy if you were so inclined
