Mainly for gaming but lots of people asked me for some SC2 and HoN streams and I will stream some.
My build cycle is 3-3.5 years and i would like to overclock my system at the last year.
Resolution 1920X1200.

Mainboard: See below
CPU: Core i7 2600K Soket 1155 3.4GHz 8MB Cache
GPU: GTX560 GDDR5 1GB 256Bit Nvidia GeForce DX11 (Not Ti)
RAM: Corsair 4GB XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (i will add another 4gb this summer)
Harddrive: My old 1 TB 5400 rpm (Maybe after 1 year i'll add a small SSD for Windows.)
PSU: 700Watt

I have another question
MSI Z68MA-G45(B3)INTEL Z68 Socket1155 DDR3 2133mhz
MSI Z77A-G45 INTEL Z77 Socket1155 DDR3 2667mhz

Difference is 40$ (local price) (Z77 higher)

Which one i should buy? Z77A has PCI 3.0 but now there is absolutely NO difference between PCI 2.0 and 3.0 But after 3-3.5 year if i try to upgrade my system will PCI 2.0 be enough? I mean if you put your PCI 2.0 to PCI 1.1 there is a HUGE difference.

Also, z68 set for 1333mhz while Z77 set for 1600mhz default

Hmm but is it capable of streaming maybe a decent 720p with 1mb upload and that cpu?

Just to reiterate what skyR said but with more helpful info, check out R1CH's guide on streaming.

Z68MA-G45 is a mATX board. You shouldn't be doing SLI with mATX and there's also no mosfet heatsinks.

Z77A-G45 is an overall better board. Z77 chipset also has native USB3. PCI-E 3.0 requires Ivybridge and in three years time, you wouldn't want to be upgrading to Ivybridge lol unless you get it for free. You would be upgrading to Broadwell or Skylake (which require new motherboards).

And no there isn't a huge difference when you put a PCI-E 2.0 card into a PCI-E 1.1 card, there's barely a difference at all.

Doing SLI with GTX 560 is also stupid. A quality 700w unit is also overkill for GTX 560 SLI and you should only be looking at quality units, not shit ones.

I'm pretty sure a core i3 isn't capable of a decent 720p stream considering how gaming already takes up two cores.

Posted this setup that my friend is selling a while ago when he was asking 450. Someone said that the most appealing part is the SSD and that if the 5570 would be replaced soon that it isn't really worth it. He's since dropped the price down to 300-350. Should I jump on that? Will it be able to stream SC2?

if you can get a bit more specific, such as mobo, and how far did he take his 955 on that overclock.

You should be able to barely make 720p (i did on my 955) but it be better if we knew a lil more

It's a 40gb SSD but he told me that I should just take his 500gb hybrid because then I won't have to move my page file...not sure what that means. Also found out that the RAM is 4x2. He got the overclock from 3.2 to 3.8 and the mobo is an asus m5a87. I'll be able to play on low settings and stream at a decent quality though?

I'm going to upgrade my desktop in the next few days. Here's my current build:

Intel Core i3 2100
ASRock H61M-VS
GSkill 1333MHz 2x2GB
GeForce GT 240 512MB 128-bit GDDR5
Intel 320 Series 40GB SSD
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
Antec Earthwatts 380D
Cooler Master Centurion 5 ATX Mid Tower

I use linux, so Starcraft 2 still gets a bit laggy in big fights (even on the lowest settings). To fix this, I'm thinking of getting a new graphics card and upgrading my RAM. My friend gave 8GB of GSkill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 that he bought "by accident", so I just need the graphics card. What's the best nvidia card I can get for ~$150? (It has to be nvidia since the ati linux drivers are still not too good)

I also want to get a larger SSD, say 120GB. What's recommended?

Intel 520, Samsung 830, Crucial M4 (Plextor M3 similar but better), Intel 320 are the options you should look at. Get whichever is cheapest. Performance is going to be bottlenecked a bit by the SATA2 interface, but all, particularly at 120 GB capacity, will be faster than a 320 40GB, which is kind of gimped.

Best Nvidia card around $150 is GTX 460 1GB, which is significantly better than GTX 550 Ti.

Extra RAM (which will be run at the same 1333 MHz because of motherboard limitations) and a more powerful graphics card won't help you in big fights though I think, even under Linux.

ok, thanks for the recommendations.

Why do you say extra RAM/better graphics card won't help me? What do you think the bottleneck is then?

In SC2 it's almost always the CPU unless you're using IGP or some shit graphics card that's a quick profiteering holdover from the days when the only thing that mattered on them was VRAM.

Using virtualization from Linux, I can only imagine the CPU constraints get worse, and 8GB RAM should be enough that you're not excessively paging, even in a virtual machine or however you're running it.

Even though SC2 only uses 2 cores, since you have a dual core everything else you have running also uses those 2 cores.
The 2100 isn't too fast really, anyway. It should definitely be dropping in large fights. Even high end CPUs drop framerate in huge fights, just not as much and not always under 60.

ok, I see. in that case I guess I'll upgrade my CPU instead -- what do you recommend for a budget of $150-200?

i posted here yesterday asking for helping with buying a new computer. got some good help and was advised to build my own computer by buying parts separately. i've answered the questions that were required in the OP and now i just need someone with the knowledge to help me choose my parts.

i mainly play HoN/DotA 2 and some SC2 and will be probably giving D3 a try when retail gets released.

Budget: 700-800$
Gaming resolution: 1280x1024
Main use: Gaming
Upgrade cycle: 1 year
Planned date of purchase: Within the next month
Overclocking: No
Operating system required: No
Crossfire/SLI: No

Why would you buy parts from Newegg? They're not even Canadian and their pricing frankly blows.

i5 2400. The extra cores in particular will help for you, since it will free you up from trying to use HT on a dual to squeeze out virtualization and SC2 at the same time.

And of course, it fits your current socket. You'll still want to upgrade your GPU a little bit at some point, but you should see a marked increase in at least lower setting performance with the CPU.

If you do want more RAM just to be sure you're not paging too much, maybe consider a combo like this?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.850950

never mind, I'm a dumbass. You already have the extra RAM.

Ignore skyR completely, he just hates everything to do with America. Just kidding. He's like a demigod here. He suggests ncix generally, I believe. Ordering from out of country sucks.

What does taxes have to do with pricing? You can't get around taxes unless you buy off ebay, you have to pay it at every retailer. If you're in a province with HST than you're paying the HST. If you're in a province with GST and PST then you only pay the GST unless the retailer is in your province then you would pay the PST portion as well.

Every Most Canadian retailer offers pricematching whereas Newegg doesn't. Every Canadian retailer ships from Canadian warehouses whereas Newegg only ships some components from an Ontario warehouse. You pay for more shipping fees and you're also waiting longer.

I suggested NCIX before so I was wondering why you would pick Newegg over NCIX?
