Overclocked 955 black edition 8 gigs of 2200mhz ram intel ssd with a seagate hybrid data drive radeon 5570 600w ocz psu thermaltake armor a60 case
Posted this setup that my friend is selling a while ago when he was asking 450. Someone said that the most appealing part is the SSD and that if the 5570 would be replaced soon that it isn't really worth it. He's since dropped the price down to 300-350. Should I jump on that? Will it be able to stream SC2?
|
It's okay... hard to tell whether it's good or not when you aren't being specific about all the parts.
|
Replacing the 5570 meaning upgrade to something better. Everything is in working order if that's what you meant by being specific

Happy 1000 page Computer Build Resource Thread.

A 40gb SSD does not cost the same as a 80gb or 120gb...
A 5400 RPM Seagate Momentus does not cost the same as a 7200 RPM Momentus. 250GB does not cost the same as 500GB.
Not to mention there's multiple 600w OCZ power supplies, 8gb could be 2x4gb or 4x2gb, and an overclocked 955 without an aftermarket heatsink???

Hey, nothing wrong with using a caviar black as a storage drive IF you play a lot of games off it and/or screen cap HD to it. Not like 128GB SSD will hold anywhere near all of most gamer's games. And I mean, he's building a reasonably powerful system, won't hurt to spend a few extra bucks on the minutely better HDD.
If he was hitting the sub-$1000 range, caviar black would be silly. A decent build in the $1500+ range, no reason not to, unless you only need it for multimedia/photos.

If you're going to buy a tablet, I suggest doing it right. Portable hardware that's cheap tends to be terrible, and terrible portable hardware is an utter nightmare.
Yeah $49 for a tablet. That raises red flags alright.

My budget is $1000, and all I need is the case and everything in it (with the exception of main storage HDD). Here's what I (basically) want: An Ivy Bridge processor One of the new GTX cards A 64 GB SSD RAM PSU Case MoBo
And I want to optimize for playing and streaming SC2.
Can I get some recommendations for a build? Thanks.

$1000 budget does not allow for a GTX 680 since that would already be half your budget...

Im quite sure he means the budget cards once they are released, since he's also building with ivy bridge.

GTX 670 or whatever they call it will most likely be out of his budget as well if the price is $400. There is no point in asking for a build recommendation if you are not building for another two months or more.

hi there, i'm looking to purchase a new gaming dekstop seeing as my old one broke a few months ago and playing games on a macbook pro is not enjoyable at all
i've been out of the loop in terms of what the good gear on the market is these days and i was hoping someone could share some advice or expertise on the computer i'm planning to buy.
i'm buying from sgxtech.com (my friend bought his computer from there and he's had it for a few months with no issues after purchase). they offer a wide range of computers which can be viewed by downloading a pdf file with the gaming computers available. the site is only in french so sorry if you're trying to navigate around and don't understand much.
these are the 2 computers i'm debating on at the moment...
ASUS mobo Intel Core i5 2400 4x3.4GHz Turbo 8GB DDR3-1333 Kingston WD 500GB SATA3 GeForce GTX 560 1GB CoolerMaster Elite Blue + 650Watts price before tax 735$
ASUS mobo Intel Core i7 2600 8x3.8GHz Turbo 8GB DDR3-1333 Kingston WD 1GB SATA3 GeForce GTX 560 1GB CoolerMaster Storm Scout + 650Watts price before tax 899$
are these any good for those prices? is there a large difference in i5 vs i7 when it comes to gaming? would i be better off looking somewhere else? any help would be appreicated, thanks in advance!

Both are overpriced / terrible.
There is a negligible difference between an i5 and i7 for gaming as most games barely use four cores.
Buy your own components and assemble it yourself or pay NCIX $50 to assemble it for you (or another retailer).

thanks for the heads up. like i said, i haven't bought a desktop computer in over 6-7 years. i wouldn't have any problems building a computer from scratch but could i maybe trouble you to recommend me what to buy if my budget is around 800$ (processor, video card, etc.)? thanks again

You need to answer the questions in the OP. Are you going to overclock? Do you need an operating system? What is your resolution? Do you plan on doing SLI / CrossfireX?
|
alright, i'll get back to you when i have more time after work tonight... thanks!

You should be able to barely make 720p (i did on my 955) but it be better if we knew a lil more

Shouldn't a Phenom II with higher clocked memory make it significantly better? Dunno if it makes it worth it or anything but it should improve right?
