This way, people (like me) who are looking to buy new systems for SC2 can look at the chart and plan accordingly.
Yeah that would probably be better, but that requires more effort on both parts. If that were the case, it would be better to just wait for the benchmarks that will come out eventually.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 3.0Ghz GPU: ATi 4890 1GB GDDR5 Resolution: 1680x1050 RAM: 8GB DDR2 Setting: All Ultra, no lag.
I'll test it out on my brother's PC, wich sucks ass.

I got a new laptop. Do you guys think I should leave this as my opt in option, my old PC, or update to my laptop? almost, more importantly, do you think I should put in another stick of RAM so it doesnt state .99GB?
My System Specifications: OPERATING SYSTEM:WINDOWS 2.5.1.2600 (SP 3) CPU TYPE: INTEL(R) PENTIUM(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHZ CPU SPEED (GHZ):2.68 SYSTEM MEMORY (GB):0.999 GRAPHICS CARD MODEL:NVIDIA GEFORCE 6600 GT GRAPHICS CARD DRIVER:NV4_DISP.DLL DESKTOP RESOLUTION:1280X1024 HARD DISK SIZE (GB):74.459 HARD DISK FREE SPACE (GB):13.185

you almost meet the minimum requirements perfectly haha
|
hahaha yeah. An extra gb of RAM wouldn't hurt, but it wouldn't really add much.

Laptop (didi not intend to use it for sc2)
CPU: Core2Duo P8600 @ 2x2.4Ghz GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400 (this is my weakness) Resolution: 1440x900 RAM: 3GB DDR2 (I believe) Setting: Low
It's nicely playable like that. It's kind of playable on Mid too but I get a very laggy interface, especially scrolling.

haha I know, i thought it would be perfect since that should be less common than better computers. im just worried if its an automated system of choosing, then it cuts me out because it says I have .99 ram, instead of 1. im not interested in playing on my pc, just on getting the beta lolol

Did it do the same for you? yes, sounds about right from what I've seen recommended settings are done by "presets" not an actual performance test but I'll have to look into it again to confirm (or deny)
I think it's pretty cool how scaleable the game is regarding hardware with almost no quality loss (in fact I found medium beeing most cofortable to play - good compromise between quality and effects)

The first thing that hits my head is that the 4870 somehow performs under the 5750 at 1680x1050 when in just about every single benchmark the 4870 rapes the 5750 easily. Then at 1920x1200 the 4890/4870 all topped by the GTX 260 which is also completely out of line with most all other benchmarks.
Somehow at 1680x1050 the GTS 250 tops the GTX 260 as well. Makes 0 sense. All of the mid range cards seem to be jumbled up.
The only way to explain this would be memory bandwidth, because the GTX 260 has that weird 448bit bus. However, if it was just the memory bus, then it wouldn't explain the 4870 and 4890 falling so low behind the 5770.

It's probably just drivers or the sc2 beta client. But it's not like games favouring some hardware is that rare. Happens in quite a few games.
|
how could the GTS 250 possibly outperform the GTX 260?
or the 5750 outperform the 4870? The 5750 is weaker in every aspect except DX11, and I have a hard time believing that DX11 could make such a large difference. If it was just drivers, then we should see a general trend of Nvidia > ATi, but we don't see it here. The 285 vs 5850 performs at about where it should, it's just the mid-high end cards seem completely out of place.

Desktop:
Intel Celeron DC E1200 (overclocked to 2.67 GHz) 3 GB DDR2-800 HIS AMD HD3450 PCIe graphics Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
1360x800 medium detail still looks drop-dead gorgeous (shock da heck outta me).
Note the seriously wimpy GPU (even I know it's wimpy/shrimpy; looking to upgrade to an XFX HD5750 for non-SC2 reasons). CPU? Pretty much any dual-core CPU should cut the ketchup there (still, looking hard at either E3200 or Q9350, again, for non-SC2-related reasons).

apparently the 5770 has a much higher memory clock than the 4870 which could also lean it towards the 5770
but jesus if memory clock makes the 5770 > 4870 SC2 must be a bitch for RAM
|
Is there "HUGE" difference between running an ATi 4650 DDR2 to a DDR3? cuz the pricing gap seems pretty big to me.
|
Dunno if i can run SC2 yet ...what do you guys think?
CPU: Intel Pentium(R) 4 ~3.00ghz RAM: 1 GB Resolution : 1024x768 GPU: GMA 950 (huge mistake) Hard disk space: 120GB FRee space: 90GB

Maybe he was manually controlling camera? I don't really know.
It's not like the difference is much. At 1920x1200 the gtx260 clearly wins.

btw: What would you suggest for a graphics card for a guy that has a budget from 100-130$ ?

For a guy thats a bit of an idiot with computers. I think I meet all the minimum requirements besides have a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card? Does this meet the minimum requirement.
My other system specs are
Hard disk free space (GB):79.44 CPU type:Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7700 @ 2.40GHz CPU Speed (GHz):2.421 System memory (GB):1.998
