Your motherboard only has 2 ram slots so do you know whether you are using a single 2gb stick or a pair of 1gb sticks at the moment? If you are using a pair of 1gb sticks (most likely you are) than you would want to pick up a 2x2gb kit for as a low of a price you can. Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146693
Ah.. I see. I think my uncle told me that I'm using a pair of 1gb sticks. I'm not sure if I can check it, as I have a desktop and I'm not sure how I can disassemble it. It's a Cyberpower computer. Uhh.. ok! I'll buy a 2x2 at a nearby computer store or on the web. I appreciate your help!

Hi, I have some problems with SC2, I used my friends account to try the game, cause i want to buy it. But every time I played it, my computer crashed down, the screen freezes and i have to restart it. What can be the problem... thanks for reading
I have: Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz 2 x 2 Gb Corsair DDR3 of ram NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 1 Gb GIGABYTE P55M-UD2

Why isn't 6850 listed under ultra power cards?
|
@raynor_dacp
Try deleting your variable.txt file found in your My Documents > Starcraft II
@cocosoft
Because the 6850 is not an "ultra power card"
|
Delete the whole file?? really? I thought it was important

It'll replace itself automatically when you start the game again.

From the OP: All Intel GMA adapters minus the one in the i3/i5 chips. Those tend to run better but we don't know how much
I'm not really that tech savvy when it comes to computer parts (and I wanna be a EE *facepalm* lol). I was wondering if my Aspire 7736Z-4088 which has a Intel GMA 4500M up to 1308 MB DVMT would be able to run StarCraft at all. If I would be able to run it, what settings would I be able to run it on (low, medium, high)?
Personally, if I can run it, I would probably have to run it on low.

That model is a 17" screen so you're going to have some (serious) performance issues even when playing on low.

Darn.
Thanks for the response though.

Agreed, I tried using the GMA 4500 on a laptop with switchable graphics before (switched intentionally away from the discrete graphics to test the GMA 4500 out), and it was painful to say the least.
No need to facepalm. I've talked with an EE that was befuddled why real-world amplifiers might have nonlinearities, a top CompE student that never heard of FAT32 vs. NTFS, plenty of CompSci professors that have trouble using basic office software, and much much much more. You may be surprised at what people don't know, until you think about it some more. Working or studying any of these fields doesn't usually require any knowledge of consumer electronics or computer parts, so I'm sure there are plenty out there that are more confused than you.

Your GPU is going to be a bottleneck, but frankly, your best bet is to expiriment with settings and watch a replay where you hit large, late game armies, then tweak things.

thanks. but without overclocking can i have high settings? or is that just asking for my card to burn up?
(it handles big fights etc on medium fine atm)

Try it and see? A replay will let you test it without risking game-losing FPS, and give you the best answer for the conditions you actually put your card under. Benchmarks vary a lot on how they test, and frequently involve unrealistic scenarios.

Just upgraded my computer to
CPU: i7 2600K, 4x 3.4ghz Memory: Kingston HyperX T1 8GB(2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Vid: ASUS GTX 580 Direct CU II HD: OCZ Vertex3 MOBO: Asus P8P67 PRO (B3) PSU: CoolerMaster Silent Pro M1000, 1000Watt Screen: 40" LCD TV at 1920x1080p
My old computer was (e6600 dual core 2x 2.4ghz, GTX 285, 8gb ram) and it had a hard time showing a large battle with most settings on medium.
Haven't had a chance to run a full 100% test on SC2 but everything is on Ultra now and it is very smooth. Did try a quick round vs the AI as Protoss with carriers and a mothership for cloak on the interceptors. Didn't lag one bit.
I'm guessing a large 2v2 max food battle shouldn't lag anymore, I'll get a replay for that.

You're running that system at stock? I think my sensibilities just got offended.
Pick up an aftermarket cooler, OC that 2600k, make sure your RAM is actually running at what the box says it's rated for, and see how much faster you can get it.

Don't have a stock cooler for the CPU (got CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus for it), I intend to overclock it to 4ghz and 1600mhz for the RAM but I wanted to see how SC2 did first.

Only to 4Ghz? Are you at least leaving HT on with that for some sort of threaded application? Just seems a bit small otherwise for that expensive of hardware...
