I have a setup that's almost identical to yours. Unfortunately for us, Starcraft II supports neither CrossFire nor Eyefinity :-(

I've been following this thread for a while and while I found someone on Battle.net forums with similar specs to mine that can run sc2 on ultra, I figure I'd double check here. I'm wondering how Starcraft 2 will run on 1680x1050 with the following specs: Intel Pentium Dual Core E5300 2.6~2.7 GHz 4GB RAM XFX GeForce 9800 GT 512MB
Any confirmation would be nice. ^^; I'm hoping for at least high but preferably ultra settings for when/if I get into beta and buy SC2.

I'm looking to rebuild/gut my current system, since it desperately needs it. I know computers fairly well, but I have always been unsure when it comes to actually deciding on what to buy.
Current Specs: Show nested quote +CPU type:Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2220 @ 2.40GHz CPU Speed (GHz):2.42 System memory (GB):3.872 [DDR2] Graphics card model:NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) Also has a 300w Powersupply[useless, I know], DVDR, 500 Gig HD. Mobo: http://tinyurl.com/ycpdvbg
After talking with some people, looking at this thread, and my own experience, I am looking at a few parts:
GPU: http://tinyurl.com/yadzeot CPU: http://tinyurl.com/yeao6f7 [there is a 3.06 GHz model for ~$20 more, worth it?]
I intend to keep my DVD, HD, and RAM [unless DDR3 is really that big of a deal here [It shouldn't be], and I can always upgrade it later once RAM starts going back down].
If everything this is good for the cost, I still need a Mobo, power, and case[current case is off a HP, likely difficult reuse with a new Mobo] but am unsure of where to look or even what to look for.
Budget is always nice, but cutting corners here when it comes to comp parts is not. Really just looking for some guidance from a bigger audience.

xBille, that should run SC2 at high. Shouldn't be any problem
Hasire, whether or not DDR3 RAM gives you performance benefits, you still have to buy DDR3 RAM in order to use the new Intel cores. Core i3/i5/i7 do not support the older DDR2 RAM. The 3.06ghz isn't really worth it imo, because you can just OC it a bit. The i3 processors are really good with overclocking
It is likely that you will need a new PSU as well! As for Mobo, for lower budgets, a H55 mobo will be much more cost effective than a P55 mobo.
I'm not a big fan of that GTS 250. For that price, you could add $10 and get an ATi HD 5770

quick fyi. i was watching a replay of a tvz yesterday with a bunch of tanks and rine/vac vs a pretty sizeable zerg army and creep on the screen. fps according to the ingame dropped to 50 very briefly when usually it's 100+ on low 1680x1050.
probabyl happened when all the tanks fired at once. 9600gt btw

1024x768
Intel 2.5GHz Dual-Core E5200 ATI Radeon 3450 HD 4GB RAM DirectX 11 Windows 7 64-Bit Premium
Any settings smooth I'm fine with. Even lowest.

It will run it at lowest good sir
|
Smoothly? If so, then thank you verrryyy much.
|
I don't see why not!
Update: Added part about RAM, and about SSDs

+ Show Spoiler + I built my computer and i am currently on it but i only have 30 days, because why else, this OS is screwed up. I will be getting my version of Windows 7 and a new Western digital 250GB HD this coming week though, best thing is i can still play Starcraft. For those who are wondering i have This as well as an 80GB Seagate Barricuda from a longish time ago.and Windows XP Pro

no point in buy the Arctic silver, or the Antec 900.
i approve of the antec psu though.

|
Can somebody tell me a budget build on computers for Starcraft 2?
|
what budget? srsly, read the thread, there's so much info in here about what u need to play sc2 at a good level
|
like below $500?? yea but i m still confuse of what components i should get to make a decent comp for SC2
|
will a nvdia 6150SE graphic card run sc2 though??
|
As your budget gets lower, the benefit from building a computer by yourself decreases. Do you need an OS (like Windows)? Are you including a monitor? Are there any parts you can reuse?
fucking at least read the blizzard requirements

Thanks for this thread, just found it, and it explains why my SC2 lags like shit.
|
does changing from 32bit to 16bit in the game resolution settings help increase performance?
|
Yes. There are less colors for the GPU to render. I didn't realize SC2 had that option o_O
