is there anything else i can do to minimize options?? my graphic quality is already set to "low", which sets everything else to either low or off.
btw, i turned off "music" volume, in case that helps.

Core i3/i5/i7 do not support the older DDR2 RAM. The 3.06ghz isn't really worth it imo, because you can just OC it a bit. The i3 processors are really good with overclocking ![]() It is likely that you will need a new PSU as well! As for Mobo, for lower budgets, a H55 mobo will be much more cost effective than a P55 mobo. I'm not a big fan of that GTS 250. For that price, you could add $10 and get an ATi HD 5770 ![]() Thanks a bunch. How exactly am I supposed to go about figuring out how much power I am going to need? I know Processor and GPU are pretty easy to account for, and I already know the DVD and HHD power reqs, but is there something I should be specifically aiming for? Do I want to have any 'spare' watts? Also looking at DDR3 RAM, I realize I know nothing about what any of their 'terminology' means. The thing that seems to drive the price up [drastically] is Cas Latency, but how is 1 less Latency worth 60-70 dollars? Also ever set I look at only mentions the i5 and the i7, is it just assumed that DDR3 will work with the i3? Last for now, when it comes to getting a case, what am I looking for? Completely unsure here.

# CPU type: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz # CPU Speed (GHz):3.03 # System memory (GB):1.999 # Graphics card model:NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS # Graphics card driver:nvd3dum.dll # Desktop resolution:1280x1024 # Hard disk size (GB):298.089 All settings on low. Game runs but has pretty bad mouse/scroll lag, making it pretty much unplayable. I guess the GPU is just too bad. Maybe I'll just get a cheap GPU upgrade, then I should be fine (according to the info in this thread). Thanks a lot for putting this thread together FragKrag! Do you think a Radeon 5770 is viable for this PC or is the Pentium D not good enough utilize that GPUs potential anyway?

Cas Latency is the time it takes for the memory to respond to the memory controller after the memory contorller attempts to access it. The lower, the faster the memory responds. It really isn't worth your money to spend extra money on RAM just for Cas Latency/Speed because most of the time, due to the problems with motherboard support and other issues along with marketing schemes by RAM manufacturers, you will need to overclock and overvolt your RAM. When it comes to getting a case, it's all based on opinion. The most important part is that you get a case which can fit your motherboard and graphics card. Personally, I prefer cases with bottom mounted power supplies, and that have at least 2 fans, 1 in the front, and one on the top, that way airflow can be maximized because the air goes from the bottom of the front to the top of the back and it moves across both your GPU and your CPU. snowbird: The 5770 is definitely a viable upgrade. sesmc: You have a laptop, and a mac laptop at that. I can't give you any suggestions on upgrading, but you should be able to run the game anyways. member1987: ty.

Also check this out http://www.legitreviews.com/article/731/16/ If this is true than the 9800 GTX+ can in many cases out do the HD 4850, but the 4850 wins some too and they sell for about the same. 100-120 dollars. It appears the a 9800 is a bit more pricy in some cases and has a little bit more power in general. (Check out the benchmarks) I have the PNY variety and it eats games for breakfast. With 1280x1000 and high on crysis It breaks 30 FPS. I'd say both are great buys and you should get one if you want SC2 to run on ULTRA! If he has a Celeron DC, it's a cut-down (lower-cache) Core 2 Duo (I have one); also, they overclock like Visigoths after pillaging a Starbucks (they overclock as a higher percentage of their base than any other Intel CPU, and especially on air). Lastly, they can act as placeholders (LGA775) for faster CPUs when you can afford them (when I built this computer, I certainly didn't have Celeron DC in mind; however, how often is it that you can get a dual-core CPU for $40, and retail/retail-boxed at that?). On Ultra Detail, how much fancier is the detail in SC2 compared to (don't laugh) Medium?

AMD Athlon 64 3000 1.8Ghz Epox Mobo 9ndaj 4 gig Corsair PC3200 ram ATI Radeon HD 3850 AGP 40 gig Seagate HD SB Audigy Crappy 18" LCD monitor. Nothing overclocked WinXP Pro SP3 Runs silky smooth on lowest settings 1440x900. I can up the shader and texture one notch, and it's still ok. I put everything on ultra and it still runs, but choppy as hell, especially watching 4 player replays. My CPU is a fossil. Planning to upgrade to Athlon 64 X2 or Athlon 64 FX. What would you guys recommend? A single or dual core? I'm not going to play any other game and I do nothing on the PC except surfing the net once in a while. Just looking for little better performance with least amount of money out of my pocket. I don't think it's worth it to me to buy a new computer.
