I'm pretty sure I saw a couple ads for composers on the blizz site, so my guess is we'll see someone totally new on SC2.

He's just made for that kind of games, and, well, StarCraft is probably the farthest thing from a DnD atmosphere-based RPG IWD was. So, no Jeremy Soule please. I really love his music, as well as Matt Uelmen's (Tristram theme from Diablo still has my bet as the best sound track made in computer games), but they focus on different games and different kind of music. As for StarCraft, it's music is wondrous. It's not precisely dramatic or mind-blowing, but it pleases the ear and you never get bored with it. That's the best qualitative measure of a soundtrack when you're up to play 1000+ hours of something. While some changes (new themes, abit more dynamic, probably, but only abit) are welcome, music is something that SC had close to perfect, so approach this with care. Warcraft III's soundtrack, on the contrary, was pretty mediocre. Imo, some of the tracks were too ambient. A striking theme is something an RTS sountrack shouldn't aim for, but Warcraft III Orc tracks seemed to lack any theme at all. TFT had better music (ahh, the NE theme for TFT was in fact really cool), but still, War III with it's addon scores lower than BW in terms of music for my liking. And please no heroic themes. FFS please. StarCraft is a sci-fi cruel world with treachery, deceit and lack of morals behind every corner, with good and evil undefined. We really don't need Independence Day-like cheap heroical music themes here, really, it will ruin the atmoshpere. This comes from hearing the music in the trailers and on Blizzard's site. I don't need anything epic, just give me my shuttle and reaver and some rock'n'roll in the earphones. totally agree although i like jeremy soule, his music doesn't fit too well with the starcraft world

So, more respect please. -Mynock All of the tracks were outstanding. Mynock is certainly right. The composer for sc and bw was great - he was able to capture the essence of Terran, Protoss, and Zerg with the music. To anyone thinks less, then you are asking for more than is possible.

Oh god, and the guys who did the diablo 2 music were badly underappreciated. The music for crypts/dungeons in act one and the act one guitar based dark folk tracks were really good too. Wasn't a big fan of the rest of the work honestly.

I mean you could argue they have some of the best shit right now as far as orchestral/background game music goes. Blizzard doesn't even use real orchestras for their music, it's just samples being played back at different keys. Many companies record real music for their games, at great expense mind you (especially if they use the Los Angeles or London orchestras) but Blizzard is not one of them. If you're can't hear the difference, you're not really qualified to comment on this.

I liked the "epic" music in the artwork trailer because it got me hyped about SC2 and emphasized on how huge the starcraft universe strife really is. Now would I want that music while I play ladder or a competition? Hell no it just doesn't make sense. I don't know why some people think blizzard would do that just because the trailer has epic music. Most likely the singleplayer campiagns, during a climatic episode will we have "epic" music or during a cutscene...

What? http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/mp3/lod.shtml Earlier this year, a composer and crew from Blizzard North went to Bratislava, Slovakia to record the Diablo II: Lord of Destruction score with the Slovak Radio Philharmonic. Kirk Trevor of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra conducted and "Ancients" is one of the tracks that resulted from these sessions. ![]()
