YoDa, B4, Gerrard arrested for match-fixing - Page 56
Forum Index > SC2 General |
Based on the official Police investigation, only the above players have been implicated in matchfixing. There is no reason to further accuse other players and teams until we get more information. Incessant blind accusations will not be tolerated. Please read the thread and the updates before posting. As of page 54 we will be moderating against match fixing accusations for players who were not caught in this incident, including those using voided Pinnacle bets as evidence.

With so many people involved it's bound to fail. If I was a progamer and I wanted to make some $ on the side, I'd tell my mom or brother or closest friend to make some account and bet on the opponent's victory and then cash in. And no abuse, like maybe in 5% of the games. And no weird purchases too. Gotta act like you have no money on the side. With so many unknown people in the scheme, I find it ridiculous they actually agree to do it. there are probably much smarter match fixers with much tighter, carefully thought out schemes that never get caught. they are thankful when morons get nailed for it so that the governing bodies can loudly proclaim they are "clamping down on corruption".

What if that player wants to join an american team? Who would have him? Any western sponsors? Forget about it. He might be ok continuing exactly what he's doing on the team he's on, but his future outside of korea is non-existent. Then there's the proximity factor. People here knows people in Korea, some even live there. If enough of them start thinking someone is match fixing, they will tell their Korean friends, and it just spreads from there. Its all bad all the time. Reputation is -everything- in this sport. If your reputation is bad, your career is dead. But we just established that WCS is region-locked. I don't foresee Koreans joining Western foreign teams in the future, regardless of how spotless or tarnished their reputations are. So reputation makes no difference here. As for the "proximity factor," from what I've heard, Korean fans were far more vocal in expressing their outrage at the suspicious games than Western viewers ever were. So, again, what we say doesn't really matter because they've already said it all. It seems to me like you're arguing from a purely theoretical place of "unfounded accusations are always bad," whereas I'm actually taking into account the context of this particular situation. There is a very real limit to how much harm our unfounded accusations could possibly do to any Korean gamers. The much more credible threat, in my opinion, is how much harm our accusations could do to our own community. And even that's very arguable. Anyway, I think I've said all I have to say on the topic.

As usual, no need to popcorn this, I guess there will be some other names until this is over, so I'll come back in a few hours.

The matchfixing scandal might have done a lot of damage to its image but Blizzard putting pressure on OGN and Kespa to cut BW out or get sued was what hurt the most.

What people should be focusing on why this happened in the first place, what made it possible? Huk had some really good input on remax (or the late game?) back when the rumors started.

One of the obvious causes, of course, is the lack of healthy sponsors for Prime. I think Gerrard wasn't able to say goodbye to Prime on the moment he should have realised Prime was at its financial end. Which only lead him and Yoda to the Dark Side of the Force. The question however remains in how far KeSPa is responsible for checking the finance of their participating teams, and if they perhaps should have intervened.

As long as this doesn't change... while this is certainly true it isn't really the case here. Yoda earned more than 100k $ through sc2 on prize money alone.

If memory serves, after the BW fixing scandal, SPARKYZ had to merge with CJ because they lost so many players. Prime is pretty much dead. With Yoda and B4 getting banned and ByuN and KeeN leaving they have no players or coach. Such a shame it had to end like this though.
