WCS AM will continue to include LatAm, Oceania/SEA, CN, and TW/HK/Macau, you can all stop freaking out about it.

I just want to speak up as one of the quiet majority who is looking forward to this change. Obviously it will be a very rough transition, and in the short term will result in korean player retirements and lower WCS stream views, but in the long run this creates the opportunity for their to be a non-korean scene again.

We can still watch competition at the highest level of skill in GSL every day and at the big foreign tournaments throughout the year. There's still more content than anyone with a job can consume every month.

There is a non-Korean scene. Europe is doing fine. The problem is NA, and this will not come close to fixing it. It is long past fixing. The region pinned its hopes not on competition but on "personalities" and that short sighted strategy fell flat on its face. Reap what you sow.

It's a great change as long as WCS allows for more players in Korea.

This btw also means that for the first time ever will GSL also be subject to a hard region lock. Anyone know whether State has a valid work visa? :p

This is a pretty big 'fuck you' to the korean players playing overseas. I feel bad for the players that will retire because of this. Granted, the system should have been region locked from the start, but changing this now is giving the middle finger to the players that have gone through the trouble of traveling and trying to get settled in NA and EU. Even if making the system open at the start was a mistake, it should be left alone at this point. Hopefully there are more changes that haven't been announced that will help the koreans, like increasing the size and payouts of GSL to make that region more survivable for the effort it takes to compete.

It's kind of laughable how badly the best players are treated by the system.

I like the foreign scene as much as the next guy but yeah this really screwed a lot of the best players. People who can't travel and live overseas will retire because they can't make money in a crowded GSL and a lot of Kespa kids will retire as well.

Calm down I count like only a dozen who will be forced to return to KR and maybe only one-third of them could keep up with the local competition. At least no KeSPA kids will retire, and possibly weaker teams may have some power boost
I actually like this since that dozen of players wont be able to farm easy money/points while their superior fellow compatriots struggle

Hopefully, the NA scene can create some interesting storylines even without Koreans. Losing star players like Idra and Kiwikaki was a blow to that.

And the Koreans who actually sacrificed a lot and moved will be the next thing to complain about among the angry, local pros. Just look at "Remax" and their discussions...

There's nothing wrong with wanting your local heros at the expense of game quality. The problem for me is that they are screwing the Korean scene in the process.

Ah yes, Koreans who can't keep up with the competition are expected to disappear. Foreigners on the other hand, something must be done for them.

I was thinking about about that and I realize that it won't really change much if they just expand Code S to be say 64 players. It hardly gives the other players more exposure than if they were in Code A and they probably wouldn't expand the prize pool, so I think it wouldn't work. But who knows, that's just my thoughts.

Some of the foreigners who have it made are so fucking entitled. There are Koreans who work far harder, and have far more skill, but see far less success and have way less fans, team support and opportunities, yet foreigners will still act like it is they who are hard done by and should be given easier competition.

This is the improper assumption. Skill isnn't determined by nationality, and hard work is both made possible and made more valuable by the fact that the Korean competitive infrastructure started light-years ahead of the rest of the world, as characterized by the fact that the GLOBAL StarCraft League was "show up here in Korea to attempt to qualify", and the rest of the world has to uproot their lives to try and turn their talent into actual success. As Catz once put it. "In Korea you can eat and breathe SC2. Try to eat and breathe SC2 in America and watch how fast you starve." I want people who are talented and dedicated enough to try to eat and breathe SC2 wherever they might live, and let only their actual abilities, honed by dedicated practice, determine who wins. Is it possible? Not entirely, but I'd rather come as close as possible to it than simply abandon it and let one country stomp all over everyone.
The world is better when every background has a chance.
