WCS AM will continue to include LatAm, Oceania/SEA, CN, and TW/HK/Macau, you can all stop freaking out about it.

WCS 2014 has been one of our most exciting competitions yet! As we near the finale of Season 3 on the road to the StarCraft II Global Finals, we’d like to share a few details covering major changes for WCS 2015 that will affect the players and the WCS competition. We will share more information about 2015 as soon as possible. But we wanted to share the following changes immediately so players can start planning for next year.

WCS Reset
For WCS 2015 we will be resetting all points, Challenger, and Premier slots. All players will be required to participate in their respective regional qualifiers to be a part of WCS 2015 Season 1.

Redistribution of the Ladder Wildcard Qualifier Slots
With the success of the regional qualifier system, we have decided to remove the 2014 Ladder Wildcard slots for WCS America and WCS Europe. The regional slot distribution will be released at a later date. All players in each league must adhere to the residency requirements.

Residency Requirements
Starting in 2015, all WCS players must be legal residents of the region they choose to play in. This means that players must obtain necessary visas if they decide to reside and play in non-native regions.

We are continuing to shape our WCS 2015 plans so stay tuned for additional news. We will be sharing a comprehensive WCS 2015 announcement later this year.

Hi TL.net!

As much as I would like to address all of your questions and concerns, the reality is we're still finalizing the details of WCS 2015 with our partners. We wanted to share the more important changes immediately so players can start planning for next year. More information on the residency rules and requirements will be communicated to the impacted players directly and will also be updated in our official handbook for 2015.

It's safe to say that the changes in progress will have an impact on the points distribution, which is currently being assessed. We will be sharing a comprehensive WCS 2015 announcement later this year. Please stay tuned!

Thank you for your continued support and feedback. We really appreciate the StarCraft II community <3

The year is 2018.

just as foreigners finally started to catch up to top koreans \:D/

i will probably be alone, but this is bad for the skill levels of WCS europe and america. welp, at least foreigners can feel important again when they win meaningless koreanless tournaments.

I kind of agree, this neuters the foreign scene a bit. Koreans competeing everywhere was helpful for foreigners and now we won't have that.

This is not full region lock. Note it's a residency requirement. I see a sharp uptick in visa applications for respective countries.

To clarify, Koreans with good managers and support structures can probably have the appropriate visa for the country they wish to participate in - I don't know that this will send MC back to Korea.

Also, prepare for walks of text explaining why this the death of SC2 and the korean scene.

Those cost a lot to get to be a full resident. You also need to live in the country, so you like need to move. That also cost money. No one will do that.

Nah, I predict that quite a few of the koreans will move over, probably most of them will try to get onto foreign teams. TRUE is only the beginning. Of course this is bad for proleague, so KeSPA teams will have to try to recruit more rookies or GSL needs to offer more points/money.

Aw, no more Korean world dominance
Minus a few select players, I guess I will not be watching EU or NA.

Maybe this will push Jaedong to go back to KeSPA~

I'm not too excited for this honestly, won't have much interest in watching WCS AM or EU anymore, hopefully they give korea more money and points, I'd say Code S is a bit small now maybe but putting more players in Code S kinda ruins the idea too

I don't think it will change much for WCS Europe, but most Koreans in WCS AM are pretty fucked I guess

I like that everyone will have to qualify, will be fun to follow, and huge qualifiers too

I'll refrain full judgement until more details are released but this looks bad for the Korean scene. If no tournaments pick up the gap to fill the big influx of Koreans particularly from WCS AM we could see lots of retirements and the Korean scene subtracting further. I just hope the points system doesn't remain the same though with these changes. Polt continually winning WCS NA does not deserve the same points as Zest winning GSL.

Polt's probably pretty happy with this decision, basically just handing him the WCS AM titles for the next year

This is an awesome change, people have to reside in the region they play. Basically every regions is the same now. Just as foreigners had to live in Korea to play GSL (due to everything being offline), it's the same the other way around now. It just makes sense imo, people flying in just for the ro16 was just stupid. Let's hope everybody, that wants to play in another region, gets the visa figured out in time for next year!

And I love the reset! I wanted that this season alreay.
Maru and Serral are probably top 5.
