WCS AM will continue to include LatAm, Oceania/SEA, CN, and TW/HK/Macau, you can all stop freaking out about it.

I don't think it will change much for WCS Europe, but most Koreans in WCS AM are pretty fucked I guess

I like that everyone will have to qualify, will be fun to follow, and huge qualifiers too

yea I guess that GEM house holds most of the koreans in WCS EU anyways lol, are they actual residents though?

i will probably be alone, but this is bad for the skill levels of WCS europe and america. welp, at least foreigners can feel important again when they win meaningless koreanless tournaments.

Nah, I predict that quite a few of the koreans will move over, probably most of them will try to get onto foreign teams. TRUE is only the beginning. Of course this is bad for proleague, so KeSPA teams will have to try to recruit more rookies or GSL needs to offer more points/money.

This assumes that lots of teams are operating in full compliance with various immigration laws. I'm not going to go out on that limb, especially with the historical context of "What contract?" from some teams.

I'm excited!
And of course guys, don't worry too much in case you are concerned about certain things. There will be more info in the near future.

I'm alright with the semi-region lock but I do wonder how the Korean scene will respond. The GEM guys in Germany, Polt and viOLet, the mYi guys and other players should be fine but I do worry for the other Koreans.

This is not full region lock. Note it's a residency requirement. I see a sharp uptick in visa applications for respective countries.

Those cost a lot to get to be a full resident. You also need to live in the country, so you like need to move. That also cost money. No one will do that.

It will depend on what an "appropriate visa" is. I think, from a legal standpoint, a legal resident visa may also include such variants as H-1B, Athlete Visa, and whatever similar "you can live and work here but you might not be a legal resident for certain purposes" visas exist.

So a lot more koreans, especially the ones in WCS AM, are gonna be forced to play in Korea now basically. Either we see more korean tournaments (unlikely), or we see a whole bunch of less Korean players (bad for the scene). I'm not a fan of this so far.

That would be accurate no matter what the announcement was. If Blizzard was offering a portal into an alternate reality where residency was required for those who wanted a region lock and kept their 2014 policy, and they added season finals back, but made it balanced, and gave a few points to Proleague and a couple fewer points to ATC teams to make it more competitive, and they expanded GSL and gave it more money/points, and Blizzcon was expanded to 24 people, and they sponsored their own SC2 team, and sponsored proleague, and created/funded a minor monthly tournament in each region that only allowed people that didn't make WCS challenger/premier to compete, people would still complain.

To be honest, I would expect KeSPA to be better positioned as an aid through immigration law in other countries. They actually have lawyers involved.

This is the most factual post in all of the threads combined about SC2.

So let the complaining commence.

Its not a real full region lock. Its just like the Ladder Wildcard Quallis have been slayed. In WCS EU all other qualis wanted a Visa for a EU Region country ( not a EU country, Ukraine and Russia for example are fine 2 ).
I dont know what will happen to the Chinese and Ocean Qualis for WCS AM, but i think they will stick with em.

To optain i Visa is not as hard as you think. You can get a athlet visa for the USA as a SC II player and in some europeen countrys it is not hard to optain a visa.

What cannot happen anymore: The pigbaby story. Live in korea, win ladder wildcard and just join usa for 2 weeks of WCS AM Finals. You need at least a visa for the time from the quali till the end of the season.
