WCS AM will continue to include LatAm, Oceania/SEA, CN, and TW/HK/Macau, you can all stop freaking out about it.

Now admittedly all the guys who make GSL Ro8 are MONSTERS anyways, but upsets do happen, especially in Code A and Code B. Guys who might not make it back are Innovation and Stats. Maybe even Rain, who doesn't seem to be all that hot in qualifiers.

I don't think the requalify applies to GSL. At least it shouldn't.

My knee jerk is to dislike the region lock, but I'm willing to keep an open mind.

What about puCK, Scarlett, Masa, HuK, Neeb, Jim, MacSed? That's without looking at the player list, there are probably several more I'm forgetting.

Does anyone else think the 2012 format was the best? I know Blizzard has said it was never their intention to make WCS some Olympic style tournament but I personally loved it.

The difference with 2012 and 2014(15) is that we had big companies throwing out money like confetti to pump up prize money. MLG, IGN, NASL all pulling out left Blizzard to fill in the void for yearly content.

I actually really dislike the full region lock idea. i have loved what WCS AM was this past year and have watched so much of it and unless a bunch of Koreans actually get residency in the AM region, I fear that WCS AM is going to just be plagued with forfeits and whining. I hope I'm wrong about that though.

WCS AM was a pleasure to watch this year. Now it's just gonna be so much less interesting. The skill level that was before Ro32 is now going to be Ro16 more even Ro8. We've seen that no one wants to really watch lower level NA players on a regular basis and now that's most of what it'll be.

But Arium has an American flag guys! Clearly this is what we wanted, to watch Arium play against Shana!

Ya, american players are so much more interesting just because they have white skin! who cares about the quality of games? i want to watch mid-gm players playing for thousands of dollors while much better korean pros suffer!

They probably will later, my guess is that 2013 got a lot of backlash and they did a soft lock with the regional qualifiers in 2014, so I guess this was just where they were planning to go anyways.

Also keep in mind that this is not a full list of changes. They will probably decide on more in the next 2-3 months

My guess is that Blizzard always wanted to do a region lock, and felt like this was the first year the NA and EU scenes could support it.

So how does this work for Taiwan / China / HK exactly? Yea you are still running the qualifiers for it, would the residency requirement screw any of them over?

For the love of God, not this strawman again. If skin tone was a factor in supporting foreigners, explain Suppy. Or Masa. Or Catz. Or Hendralisk. Or Illusion. Obviously, since they're not white, nobody wants them to win anything, right? This argument needs to disappear, because it's so blatantly and obviously flawed, and it makes everyone look bad. There is NO racial component for people liking the idea of players being able to succeed without being Korean.

they can do qualifers, but if they win the qualifers, they are forced to move to NA and live there or they give up their qualification spots

? maybe lol

It says same qualifiers, doesn't say anything about whether or not the same visa situations will continue.

If it means sports visa or green card only you just fucked over alot of people.

I don't think it's so much as a skin color issue as it's a "well they're Korean so like goddamn get out of NA competition". I think that's more of the point that he's trying to make, it's not a skin color thing for those people in my opinion. Of course those people sound xenophobic and stupid but whatever.

1. That's sarcasm.
2. That would be seriously racist if it wasn't sarcasm.
3. Korea (not korean) is the main reason why this region-locking idea is bad. Better players playing in region --> everyone else gets better. This is why Blizzard needs to provide some people with help moving over if they want to switch regions; it's not healthy to have everyone in korea anymore.
