WCS AM will continue to include LatAm, Oceania/SEA, CN, and TW/HK/Macau, you can all stop freaking out about it. |

I actually really dislike the full region lock idea. i have loved what WCS AM was this past year and have watched so much of it and unless a bunch of Koreans actually get residency in the AM region, I fear that WCS AM is going to just be plagued with forfeits and whining. I hope I'm wrong about that though. WCS AM was a pleasure to watch this year. Now it's just gonna be so much less interesting. The skill level that was before Ro32 is now going to be Ro16 more even Ro8. We've seen that no one wants to really watch lower level NA players on a regular basis and now that's most of what it'll be. But Arium has an American flag guys! Clearly this is what we wanted, to watch Arium play against Shana! Ya, american players are so much more interesting just because they have white skin! For the love of God, not this strawman again. If skin tone was a factor in supporting foreigners, explain Suppy. Or Masa. Or Catz. Or Hendralisk. Or Illusion. Obviously, since they're not white, nobody wants them to win anything, right? This argument needs to disappear, because it's so blatantly and obviously flawed, and it makes everyone look bad. There is NO racial component for people liking the idea of players being able to succeed without being Korean. Just ignore it, your going to see this argument a lot with other terms like welfare and charity. Just let it work it's way out.

Seems like Blizzard is doing everything right Except for the part where ... uhhh you know: skill level in WCS AM bombs compared to the past? But yes, lets give foreigners higher finishes by eliminating competition.

I don't think it's so much as a skin color issue as it's a "well they're Korean so like goddamn get out of NA competition". I think that's more of the point that he's trying to make, it's not a skin color thing for those people in my opinion. Of course those people sound xenophobic and stupid but whatever. It's the fact that they are playing and eliminating non-koreans from the RO32 of premier and challenger, which is online. If Blizzard made it so that you have to be in the country to play WCS, then you have to move over to the NA server and play there a lot earlier than before. Better practice.

But there is actually a racial component, locking out Koreans (a race of people) just because they have the strictest regiment and the history / pedigree. There's an existing inequality between non-korean vs korean performance in NA and EU, and this is the answer, it's absolutely race based, if not nation / political bloq based (and let's not get into that shit).

That only means that if you are going to a qualifier for WCS AM you have to be a legal resident of the AM region, else the region lock doesn't work. Why doesn't a Korean just go to the Taiwan or China or Latin America qualifiers for AM then? Those visas are alot easier to get than an American one.

That's not actually true, as the korean people who have visas aren't kicked out, it's about nationality and not race.

Hey, I'm not even talking on behalf of the Koreans here, I'm worried about the Chinese community that's been fucked over time and time again. Region lock is restricting people of specific geopolitical locations to play in their own community, and there is an established inequality present, I'm not saying it's racist against Koreans, I'm saying that the consequences are that specific races of people who reside as a majority in some regions get the short end.

How about future ones? Say you are a rookie from China or Korea and you make an amazing qualifier run, win it, but get rejected because you don't have a team supporting you getting a visa? As far as I understand, people use the fact that they are accepted into a sports tournament or league as evidence or proof to get a sports visa, if the tournament is saying no you can't get in because you don't have a visa in the first place, then you can't apply.

Finally if you want to play in America or Europe WCS, you need to be a resident. Only fair... Next step all live events like GSL...

Except EU will be filled with Koreans because they already live there, but let's just ignore that fact and go with the racism argument because it's easier. No formate is going to be perfect for everyone in the world.
Well obviously people are in this thread celebrating the fact that NA heroes are getting an advantage (yet again), while China's been systematically relegated for like 3 years. At least throw us a bone, something.

They'll make an annual event called beat Jaedong. Every Chinese player shows up and eliminates Jaedong in a match!

I'm sure this thread is a clusterfuck, but I can't help but feel sad for the Korean players who are probably going to end up retiring as a direct or indirect result of this decision.
