I'll go out on a limb and say it might be because of the Russia/Ukraine situation that's the first thing that comes to mind for me anyway It would be pretty stupid to abandon hosting a tournament in russia because of that. Because everyone, investing just a little time to explore the backgrounds of this "crisis", knows, that russia is not the only one to blame here. the world is black and white! you didn't know that? let's not go there again great news for sc2 and esports in general, hope to see something like jd vs stardust or sjow vs life or leenock vs naniwa again! dreamhack always delivers, maybe with happy in moscow? would be awesome.

Well they're clearly not abandoning it so there's that, I'm just saying that if I were to cancel a tournament in Russia for one reason, that would be the reason.
But this is off-topic.

Woo DH 2014! Expect to see one in NA in 2015 :D

Not watching dreamhack russia. Also I won't ever buy any products that are promoted on dreamhack Russia. Hopefully more people will solidarize with Ukrainians. Thank you for your support.

I think I might choose Dreamhack Stockholm as the event to attend in a Frog Costume. I do need to finish that bet by the end of the year, Stockholm as good as any place to do it since the Season Finals were cancelled.

Let me know ahead of time and I'll make sure I go as well

Yea, maybe the fact that there are often Visa issues when going to Russia?
Really glad to see that DH goes there as they don't have that many eSports events, really wish they'd go to Canada as well to make up for NASL going down. Those guys literally only got an MLG in 08 and a few NASL events in the last few years.
@JessicaSc2: Yea lets fuck a Swedish company for bringing an event to a country that rarely has any and fuck Russian eSports fans for the country they were born in as well as giving Sponsors the message to not support Dreamhack in the future. Sounds great!

I sympathize with the Ukrainian people, but I'm not going to boycot an esports over it. But do what you want I guess.

Far more interested in how the CSGO tournaments expand in scope this year.
SC2 is always done right though.

Dreamhack is purely commercial event. Yes it have a "mission" of promoting esports but mostly for their own good. Yes they will leave money in Russia - venue and crew costs, but they will also take money off Russia (sales, tickets) so it's hardly supporting Russia in any way. Summary: there is no reason to hate Dreamhack or Russian fans because of that event.
PS. I wonder if JessicaSc2 will stop buying Blizzard games and others LOL

If your country got invaded would you like that everybody just didn't care? Democratic nations should stand together against the tyranny. Doing dreamhack in Russia is like saying to everyone: nothing important is happening! Carry on! What if Russia annexes more Ukraine? Or the whole Ukraine? Will you still pretend that nothing is happening? What a farce. Russia should be thoroughly boycotted and ignored at least for now until the tensions get calmer.

It's not about the money. It's about the location. You cannot just pretend that nothing is happening.

Its probably pretty expensive for them since they are a Swedish company to fly all the way to Toronto. Makes much more sense to have these events in poorer areas like Russia/Romania/Poland because the labor/infrastructure is probably a lot cheaper than up here. Although I guess Moscow is the most expensive city on the list of their 2014 events by a pretty large margin but I guess its safer than going to some second tier, Katowitze type city in Russia.

Sure. Have fun boycotting every event you like and let the rest of us enjoy a hopefully exciting tournament.
[Don't forget to boycott the WCS events in Germany, we sell a lot of weapons to dubious nations.]

If Russia decides to annex all of Ukraine then that's boycott worthy. So far, they taken the part that wants to be Russian anyway. Should we boycott the united states too? Iraq and Afghanistan were invasions, but no one wants to boycott them.
