Is the attack cursor issue really not fixable? It's quite irritating to never know exactly if you've targeted a unit or the ground next to it.

Ofc we do this because we love the game and the end goal is not to be the next Dota. Now, if we DID become the next dota, I would not be too sad either, and it is always OK to dream and hope :D I'd like to ask some questions (aimed at the Starbow community) I gave up on SC2 maybe 4 months after WoL came out. Switched to dota and have been playing it ever since, now, I played BW at a D+ level on iccup for a few years before that but am extremely rusty. What is the general skill level of people playing starbow? Second question. I'm not giving Blizzard any money whatsoever, I won't be buying expansions ect. Is this free? Played a couple of ladder matches and most people who try out the mod these days seem to be platinum or above in SC2. At the same time, the game builds on Brood War and is quite different from SC2. I'd suggest you try it out. Games are quite easy to find at the moment (at least in the evening).
And yes, the Arcade in SC2 is free and so is Starbow.

About 2 weeks ago, most Starbow players were quite high level and were few. We've gotten quite a lot of more players now from all skill levels. I was D+ too on iccup way back when, and I find people to play with all the time close ti my level now
It is free. Download the "Starcraft 2 Starter edition". Arcade is open for the Starter edition. You will have some limitations though. You won't be able to chat in the chat rooms, but we have solved that with our own ladder/chat service on http://eros.starbowmod.com/
Another, much smaller, limitation from using the Starter Edition is that you cannot play vs an AI better than "easy", and even the best Starbow AI is quite bad.
Hope to see you over there

I have not played SC2 in a loong time, what is this attack cursor issue you speak of?
It looks different than in regular SC2 because we use the campaign dependency and not the normal one. Thsi gives us access to many more custom models which we need and use.
I did not know the SC2 attack cursor had some extra feature (except for looking a bit different).
(Look at that, I'm a mutalisk now. Excellent!)

I did not know the SC2 attack cursor had some extra feature (except for looking a bit different). It doesn't. It's the Starbow/campaign cursor that has this red animation when attacking or attack-moving. It makes it harder to see the circle around the enemy unit you're clicking on. Hence, attacking a unit looks very similar to missing it slightly.
I remember reading a post from you Starbow guys last year or so, saying that changing the cursor animation is no trivial task. I know close to nothing about the editor, but people say it's pretty complicated, so I can imagine it being stupidly complicated for some reason.

I'm really itching to see how bio-oriented strategies work, especially with 100% overcharge, tech labs, fast ghosts with (I think lockdown of sorts) mech stun ability, easy nukes, etc. I don't get why everyone completely 100% ignores the starbow stuff. Well, most people prefer to do what already works. As for bio - I can say that I used bio-tank 2 base pushes with expansion behind them in TvP, and they work, at least, to some extent. Also there are now Mercs with stim, which were added right before release, they might enhance bio play quite a bit.
Problem with new builds that they should be defined first, thus they often get beaten up by old builds with proper execution in the beginning. But I believe after the 1.0, without big tweaks to the mod, the meta will develop itself.

It is better to ask people for customs in Eros chat channel or Starbow chat channel (Chat channel, not the group) on either EU or NA servers. I believe no one use the Arcade search nowadays.

You did a good work for the last year. Most broken/weird stuff that were in game when you got the hype train 1 year ago are now fixed. I really like the mod so far... much more than lotv beta and hots, even with the "novelty" effect gone. The pace of the game is slower than SC2 wich is very good imo (there is no way you can handle everything half decently on LotV and it's very hard on HotS due to the stupid fast speed of the game).
I hope you'll get a stable player base of at least 100+ people (and hopefully more) eventually. You don't need more for the mod to stay alive and enjoyable for a very long time.
It pretty much feel how I imagined SC2... dunno if it's sad or not yet lol.
I'm probably going to stick with your mod for now, so you got at least 1 more player lol.

I'm impressed how easy it is to use Starbow ladder now. I found it easier to set than Brood War's mca64.
The Starbow ladder is completely web based.

The starbow client/ladder is really well done. It's still missing some features but they did a very good job.
If I understood go/cpp better I would have gladly help, but I don't have enough free time to learn them now and I was too busy playing ^^' (cpp is okish but I don't know go at all).

OP has been updated by Kabel to be more accurate to the current live Starbow.

Maybe remove Beta from the title? :D

I haven't really been following SB. With all the new DH9 and other show matches cropping up I was wondering how SB went about mineral harvesting? I went to the main site but it did not provide too much detail.

We are still using BW system (bouncing workers). Triggers have improved over time to make it more authentic to BW.
We did test double Harvest at a testmap to compare, and the effect of the BW when it comes to rewarding spreading out was better than DH.
