Ah yes, "free units", the chant of people who truly have no clue why SC2 isn't enjoyable.
Here's a protip: free units are in Brood War to this day, made by the Queen, and they work very well in that game.
Do you mean broodlings? I wouldn't consider that free units at all. It cost 150 energy to spawn 2 broodlings that could barely kill a marine.
They weren't even used often from what I've seen just vs Mech to kill tanks and that wasn't even the broodlings but the spell straight up killing a tank *and* tanks splash hitting the other tanks around the broodlings.
Heh and now you are defending free units because they were too weak. Being strong is not part of being free unit.
Saying free unit is bad design is just a poor insight and a lack of understanding on unit innovative concept
I'm not defending free units. I believe that its a terrible design and does not belong in Starcraft. The broodlings aren't free units they cost 150 energy on your Queen and did NOTHING other than kill one unit straight up. Using spawn broodlings put your Queen out of battle for quite some time to regen that energy.
Uh you absolutely are. It already existed in bw, it doesn't quite matter what you believe in. Also again, strength of the free unit doesn't not change what it is, a free unit.
Not to mention by your logic, infested terran wasn't a problem when they receive range and armor upgrades in wol.
Do you think broodlings or locust would be fine if they can't attack and move and cost mana?
If they cost mana they are no longer a free unit. I don't consider infested terrans from Infestors as free units.

You are just arguing for the sake of arguing when you have no idea what you are talking about. I never defended free units because the Queen in BW wasn't about making free units. It was about killing one unit. Nothing more nothing less. Free units are spawned from Locusts and cost NO minerals or energy.
Spawn Broodlings cost 150 energy a Queen could only cast it once before having to regen energy and the units it spawned did NOTHING. The strength changes EVERYTHING you wouldn't stall a game for 2 hours using Queens in bw.
Free units are bad and I will never consider them a good thing.

and?
Broodlords must require to attack a unit to generate the free unit. Swarmhost must burrow to generate free unit.
there are millions of ways to balance the free units and the free units generator, it's just people who can't even grasp the very basic concept that there are trade offs for getting these free units generators and blame it on the balance.
Just because some unit is generated from energy doesn't make it more problematic than "free" unit, look at sky terran mass ravens.
reminds me how some people always claimed moba must always have health and mana, then league shows an energy based or even mana/energy-less champion can work just as well.
calling spell units "free" is exactly the same as calling spell damage "free", it's just semantic nonsense from people who don't understand the role of casters
and you are still wrong. how someone can call units which can take "no risk" engagements in a STRATEGY game, well designed is beyond me. the broodlord is at least limited by their attack, but it suffers from the same snowball effect.

WHo is still wrong, maybe you should add some quotes... What exactly is a "no risk" engagement?

Golden is wrong.
A no risk engagement is an engagement you can make without risking anything. Swarmhosts can from ridiculous range entire armys over half the map, without taking any risk. The only risk in Starcraft 2 for the swarmhost is making them. So it is basically again a composition/build optimization fight and not a fun unit interaction. Thats one of the many reason why Starbow wont implement "free units".
Guys, im looking for a Casted Game. Here are the short notes I remember:
- TvZ on Asgard - Casted by Rifkin (BasetradeTV) (pretty sure it was a solo cast) - Terran player used an early nuke (rly early push) on the Zergs Natural - RIfkin freaked out becasue he didnt read about the Nuke change and laughed his ass off :D
any1 remember the playernames or can find the VoD easily?

LOL this post is just so wrong. Man you should really learn sc2 before saying something so completely false.
