Online leagues, team leagues especially have always done kr vs kr if both players are in KR.
There are also people who get that all the games are to be played on the NA server. Exceptions can be made, but people understand that it isn't required and informing rules is important.
While this isn't really a major issue, it's still one more black mark on a tournament that started off on the wrong foot and just got worse from there. The WCS of 2013 is one hell of a far cry from the WCS of 2012.

This. No real excuse or legitimate complaint. You can cry that they're "hurting esports" all you want, but these damn proxy entrants into WCS have to have "penalties" to encourage players to reside across the world. I don't want WCS Korea 1, 2, and 3, and I'd bet I'm not alone.
..........Using things as stupid as latency to enforce that is absurd. When you think about it, since they are both in Korea, it won't affect them "dominating" NA any more than what it would anyway. Once whoever wins this match (Major or HerO), they will move on to face another Korean or another American. All of the matches where it's a Korean versus an American, the Korean will have the lag. But when it's Korean vs Korean, they both have the lag. The lag when it's KR vs KR will not stop Koreans from playing in the tournament, since they are obviously willing to play on NA versus someone in NA. It ONLY makes the matches worse. So your logic is poor, I'm afraid.

Yeah, the penalty is that they have to deal with a latency disadvantage when they face players who actually live in NA. Now tell me what's gained by forcing two players who live in KR to play against each other on NA.
The integrity of the tournament and distinction that it's WCS NA and not WCS Korea Code B.
Yea its sucks, but it's only for the round of 32 and this is one of the drawback that should be expected from chosing a regions that is not where you are, so I don't really disagree.

That intregity of yours is already broken by letting not-NA players in it.

The integrity of the tournament is positively affected by having the players play a weaker series and having a 9+ page thread on TL complaining about the decision? Are you sure?

Having KR vs KR played on NA isn't an acceptable practice. There are other ways to encourage participants to reside in NA. It seems like a lot of people here are in favor of anything that discourages non-NA residents from playing WCS NA. But the thing is, the enforcement of this particular rule in this particular case is SO bad that it is immune to that argument. This isn't the proper way to do that. Let's get the best games we can out of these players.
I want to see good games, but I also understand that MLG has an obligation to uphold the rules set forth by Blizzard. If there is wiggle room with these rules then by all means, they should be flexible. But if Blizzard outlined this scenario in their procedures, then MLG has to follow them. The right thing to do would be ask Blizzard if they can make the accommodation...not just make the changes because it's a popular decision. If anything, this is another good example of why this whole thing should be region locked.
Considering both players are in Korea and they would like to play each other without the latency. I don't see why MLG wouldn't let them play on the Korean server. It would make for a better series after all.

Believe me, the integrity of the tournament isn't salvageable after all of the shit that's already gone down.
Aren't the NA servers hosted mostly on the west coast? Seems logical to me that the lag from KR and NY be equally iffy than player lag be perfect and observer lag suck.
I live about an hour outside of NYC, I can't do shit on the KR server, lag constantly, and I have an alright connection. If I'm correct in assuming the west coast is where NA servers are located, then it's pretty much in between them, and this is not only a forgivable offense, but in fact the preferred decision for all involved.
Though to be fair I'm in the "play on NA for the NA WCS" crowd.

I can't control the insatiable entitled idiots on TL that find every moment to complain about anything that Blizzard has a hand in, nor can anybody else. I can only argue that rules are rules, and for SC2 and WCS to remain credible, rules have to be followed.
Why should any rule be enforced if it's detrimental to the players and consequently everyone else involved? It's like we're all robots or something. While NA should take precedence, to deny both players a good environment is ridiculous.
