People in this thread make my head hurt. I can't believe I actually read through all of this.

Two players in KR playing against eachother. Why is it bad that they should play on the server that they're both close to?
MLG can still make it NA server when its two people from different regions. But if they're both in the SAME region, why not?

KR vs KR = KR server
KR vs NA = NA server (priority to NA)
KR vs EU = NA server (or alternate between servers)
NA vs EU = NA server (priority to NA)
NA vs NA = NA server
EU vs EU = EU server

Flexibility, flexibility...

Meh, I'm somewhat alright with it. Maybe they should have held off until season two with this rule with how abrupt the whole WCS concept came upon the players in Korea. But at the end of the day, by the start of the 2014 season, players who wants to play in NA should be forced to be living in NA, and the same with the other regions.

Essentially you guys want worse games to uphold a principle and rule that doesn't apply in this specific case. If you don't want NA players playing on KR vs KR players that makes sense. That's what the rule is for. This however is not what the rule is for. It doesn't make sense to uphold it.

So it seems there are like 2 sides to this right now, those happy that they have to play on NA and those mad that those living in the same country (KR) have to play on NA....

I don't think it really matters, since soon enough you'll have to be living in the region to actually play there :X

I'm actually shocked at how many people are ok with this, if they had played on the KR server and never said anything about it no one would have ever known the difference, it makes absolutely 0 difference in that match other than making it more fair. Online leagues, team leagues especially have always done kr vs kr if both players are in KR.

This is the correct decision, Kudos MLG.

Well, they were seeded into it so I'm not sure how much signing up was actually involved..

i dont understand why MLG would do this. would it ruin the integrity of the tournament by not allowing for the best games possible? maybe (probably). would it taint the already tainted reputation that MLG has by "bending the rules" and letting HerO (someone who was invited) and MajOr (an American in Korea) play on KR? absolutely not. it would probably look good on them if they override this.

I mean, what the hell is the difference between NA and KR in a spectating perspective? Nothing.
Oh MLG, you're like the cranky old grandmother who doesn't give you what you want for Christmas. Ever.

My thoughts exactly. I want some good games between HerO and MajOr, not more of these sub-par-ass games.
I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

This. No real excuse or legitimate complaint. You can cry that they're "hurting esports" all you want, but these damn proxy entrants into WCS have to have "penalties" to encourage players to reside across the world. I don't want WCS Korea 1, 2, and 3, and I'd bet I'm not alone.

If you want to play on KR server sign up for KR events.

I totally understand the players being upset and even people complaining about the quality of games etc etc but I really like how MLG is sticking to their guns and not just paying lip service to the few facts that make this tournament a NA tournament.

They signed up for the region that they wanted, then they were seeded, IIRC.

I mean, people do realize that there's no difference between game servers other than your ping to the server right? Stalkers don't do more damage on NA or something, it doesn't impact the game whatsoever. The only reason I can think of that people would be okay with it is if they are pissed at Koreans invading and think this is some sort of payback.

According to MajOr's tweet, he and HerO will have to play their WCS America matches on the NA server, despite the fact that they both reside in Korea.

While that's probably technically correct if you're following the rules of the tournament to the letter, it's a remarkably inflexible decision.

It degrades the WCS tournament by knowingly allowing the level of competition to be lowered, is a discourtesy to the players who want to be able to fully show the skills they have honed through hundreds of hours of practice, and is a disservice to the fans who are expecting the be shown the highest level of gameplay possible.

When you consider that region switching is even built into the HotS client, then it's an even more confusing and perplexing decision. Hopefully both players have protested and have had the decision changed.

It's WCS NA. It's for whoever is better at playing on the NA server. Maybe instead of complaining about playing WCS NA on the NA server, they could play WCS KR on the KR server. It's a deterrent, because it adds uncertainty to the game. I fully support even stronger deterrents against cross region play.

Simile:
It's like joining a Chinese debate team and then complaining that they don't debate in English.

What? This is a terrible example lol.
It's like having a debate between two Chinese debate teams but being forced to speak English**

Kk fixed!

Of course we don't want to watch worse games. The point is they willingly chose to do WCS NA instead of trying to do KR. There's no reason to change rules to accomodate them.

Yeah, the penalty is that they have to deal with a latency disadvantage when they face players who actually live in NA. Now tell me what's gained by forcing two players who live in KR to play against each other on NA.
