It's pretty fucking easy to understand really. You need to be a resident unless you're off a nationality not catered for. Simple.

You know, people only see things from the games aspect so this is why a NA player tournament cannot compete. Current tournaments are so lazy when it comes to providing info about the player. Even providing a hometown or some light biographical info you can use to find a connection with them is omitted. Where we could have competed is with familiarity. Creating storylines might have gotten viewers even if State played Insur. What if we knew State had some personal tragedy in his life? Insur got cut off on the free way by State and wants his revenge? What is States secret talent? Lets watch Insur juggle in the pre-game show! We can compete by way of feeling a connection with the player and watching to root for them. I don't even think getting equal viewership or game quality should be the end goal. Korea will have better games and more viewers who want to watch them. NA's job is to be there...someday but the expectation shouldn't be they need to be getting 100K viewers in Season 1. It should have been make these people relatable, win NA players long term fans, create a feeling that a scene exists here and #1 bring HOPE to foreigners. Imagine WCS NA but rather than Scarlett vs. VIBE the game was labeled The Amazing Story of how a Lady Becomes a Champion People would tune in with their daughters and WAG's to see the story unfold and experience this human drama. They didn't need the "best games" they watched so that they could support Canada's Hero and feel the excitement of this new sport unfolding in front of our eyes. Unfortunately MLG botched the storyline of it and the game was somewhat ignored, thinking it 'inferior'. The game quality should not matter if we can explore it from a perspective of underdog players from YOUR country who are on the biggest stage of their lives and deserve your attention because of who they are and what they accomplished to get there. Luckily however, Scarlett and VIBE are both famous in their own respects because of WCS NA. Again now, the top 16 will be Korean and NA will be ignored and probably mocked. Count the amount of posts that say something like "well, now the real games can start the NA players all fell 3-0" it will probably be over 100. Personally I would rather be a Call of Duty pro because lots of average people know it, LoL is way bigger but still really nerdy and even hated by nearly all other eSports fans. Either way I see no other choice for a 15 year old gamer. The future is not here please practice something else.

What if Insur got cut off on the freeway by Vibe and slept with his girlfriend for revenge only to find out later that she was his long lost sister?!? Now back in the real world... this is SC2 not the WWE and it is easier to reliably stage tournaments with good games than 'interesting storylines' which is why they are doing it this way in the first place.

If the foreigners can't compete with the Koreans, they shouldn't get paid as much, which they would if they were gifted this tournament.

The point is that the invites are mainly going to players in those regions, giving them a great opportunity to succeed in a premier tournament. Those Koreans are all going to be fighting each other just to qualify. It helps foreign players without seriously devaluing the tournament.

welp blizzard just fucked up gsl/gstl/osl/proleague, and if they kept it region locked they would have been able to say that they are supporting the local NA/EU pros to ACTUALLY have a stable income by playing the game but no, they then fuck that up too oh well, standard blizzard.

Rain got a lot of flak back when he forfeited Code S. Surprised these two aren't getting the same treatment.

But the ones who appear in the world final really represent the highest skill and they should have the ability to fight against Koreans. It's better in this way than we see lots of NA pros qualify and they got pawned by Koreans in the world final. I don't think this necessarily needs to be the case. Yes, Koreans are the best players. Probably 95 of the top 100 SC2 players are Korean. However, the global finals doesn't necessarily need to be made up of all the best players. Look at the Olympic basketball for example. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that 95 of the 100 best basketball players in the world are Americans, but the US only gets to send 12 players to the Olympics, while countries like China or Australia send 12 players that wouldn't even make an NBA team. There are NBA allstars not playing in the Olympics, but some random players that would be second string on some NCAA teams do make it. Is that fair to the American basketball players? No. But the tournament goes on and its fun to watch, even though the Americans dominate basketball like the Koreans dominate SC2. Every country gets their heroes, not just the Americans. WCS could, and some would argue should look like that.
