This is so silly. What the heck is the point of having different regions? Just have it in korea if you are going to do it this way.

Gotta be honest, I find it pretty lame Taeja and MC, and any other current Code S player who's already rich and is now abandoning the most prestigious tournament in the world in order to go face easier competition. It's such a blatant moneygrab lol.

Rain got a lot of flak back when he forfeited Code S. Surprised these two aren't getting the same treatment.

GSL before was not a qualifier for WSC, different times.

why Mvp? =(

Well due to proleague EG-TL can only afford to send 3 players to ro16 - wonder if coach Park will even let others even play in the qualifier, ro32 will happen on the same day before a proleague match.

Can we confirm whether the sponsors of NA Koreans are from NA and not EU or KR at least?

As for Koreans being scattered across the globe, I think it's a great thing, on one condition though. They should train and attempt to communicate with the players from the regions they are competing in. I know that's a very "Learn the language" approach, but there needs to be a positive side-effect to Korean+non-Korean competition that benefits each scene as a whole. If E-Sports doesn't explode as a result of Korean competition, then who's to say the "foreign" pros and up-and-comers won't be starved-out in the process? Koreans deserve every penny they earn in prizes, nobody can deny that. It seems that most "foreign" pros would be honored to train with Koreans, I just hope the Koreans feel the same way when they land on NA's shores. If they stayed in NA as coaches or something running their own team houses, that would be a great turnout. THAT'S what I'm waiting to see.

It's possible that Blizzard's plan is "Put Koreans everywhere, grow viewership and culture, grow E-Sports everywhere", which I suspect, and really hope it is. I think of it as Blizzard planting E-Sports seeds all over the place in hopes of them growing and spreading, and using the WCS prize pools as fertilizer.

Unless he's one of those guys that thinks a tournament is a joke without 20 top tier Koreans.

I don't understand why the NA list is such a shocker to everyone. Just as Artosis explained on SotG for players on Korean teams, players on western teams have western sponsors and will get more out of their players playing in NA based tournaments. Nearly all of the players, excpet maybe NesTea should have been expected to come over specifically because of their team: EG, Liquid, Axiom, quantic, ROOT all are western teams.

How would you feel as a korean playing staying at EG if you were told
"no you cant play in WCS:NA although technically you can and it has easier competition, we want your inferior teammates to get the money, you are to play in the much harder, Kespa/top eSF player infested WCS: KR"

Happy that I was receiving a salary in cutthroat, work-for-free SK? ^^

I do think the EU/US teams are to blame. They are weighing a short term advantage over the potential damage to the US scene.

I think the problem is that the first part is online.

The koreans will still train in korea. They will still be better. This does not help NA players in any any any way at all.

I don't understand the point of having an NA, EU, and Korean league if it's like this. The divisions are so arbitrary and don't actually change anything. It just changes what studio you play in.

The more I read/hear about this whole WCS circus, the more I feel blizzard should scrap the current chaos, and take another month to set it up properly, I don't mind waiting for getting this done properly. Pretty sure this won't happen but, I feel it's the only way to not hurt anyone and not let the ship sink before it leaves the dock.

Setup as in, residential locks etc, most of what Catz and others have been saying.

No.
It's already set in stone.
Unless blizzard wants to admit its structure was a mistake, but that would be bad PR.
They would have to re-negotiate with IEM, MLG and GSL/OSL again which is a tough thing to do.
Expect very minor changes if theres any from blizzards part.

If they have balls, they'll take responsibility.

We know Koreans are the best... Koreans are angry that even though they're the best, they can't get shown because they have the same number of spots as NA/EU...

Why not just Split Korea into 2-3 divisions? Korea West/Central/East and then have 15-16 Korean invites, 8 EU, and 8 NA? Then 4/8 groups of 8/4 person round robin. -> ro16

I know it costs more... but just making Koreans fly around the world and stomp the shit out of all the foreigners doesn't seem to be a very forward thinking approach.

The Koreans deserve more seats according to their "skill density". It's not fair to create a Korean bloodbath, and it's not fair to have Foreign scenes have a much lower chance to sprout by crowding them with Code S caliber players.
A time to live.

I am actually very satisfied with how everything turned out.

Just look at the current GSL where 4 of the 6 players already advancing to the RO16 are Kespa players. Many ESF players just can't keep up and vanish to Code B one by one. Letting the bad ESF players compete in Europe and especially NA (since the latter completely lacks even halfway decent pros besides maybe Major and Scarlett) gives us the opportunity to still watch and cheer for our old favorites with watchable quality of the games even on NA without being completely filled with wannabe pros who completely lack the mindset to ever come even close to the level of Kespa players.

Yes, I understand all the worries and complaining about the foreign scene having an even harder time due to this. But in all seriousness, why should hard working Koreans be treated in a severely unfair manner when it's the foreigner's fault that most of their pros do not even understand what being a professional gamer even means? Arising inequalities would hurt the still very small SC2 eSports scene much more.

And don't compare WCS to something completely different such as Olympia. WCS is in the end an individual tournament while the Olympia is a competition between countries and rather a cultural and traditional event.

are you implying that this is going to hurt the 'US scene'? how could it possibly get worse? there are a total of two good players from the entirety of North America, and not only is neither of them from the US, they also both live in Korea right now.

if anything, this is gonna help NA players as they are gonna get the chance to play against good players on a more regular basis which should help them improve, and maybe also realize just how bad they really are.

I completely agree with this!

...actually yeah, this could work. Allow the NA and EU sandboxes to be residents of NA and EU only (so Polt and viOlet can still play NA), but avoid all the Koreans knocking each other out.
