NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! My favorite progamer. :/ Would be better if he joins EG and just dont practise at all like HuK ...
me AND fionn, but i knew about his move to america a few months ago, i figure he's just going to have to find a foreign team so he can study/play while in america. best wishes to polt!
Polt is one of my favourite terrans i really hope he gets picked up by a top team soon, personally i would love to see dignitas grab him but i don't know how likely that would be. Best of luck Polt you truly are the terran beast <3

Is there something wrong with it? Why the "hahahahahahaha"? Nothing funny about someone wanting to study something they want to do.
I doubt Polt would be joining Liquid or EG, as those teams keeps flying players around the world all the time, and if Polt want to focus more on studies they might not be the best teams, though I guess he could join and just have it in his contract not to travel too much?

Both of those teams have handfuls of players that rarely travel and compete locally.

I almost got a heart attack when I read that Polt would be retiring. It is smart for him to take steps that benefit his career after SC2. I hope he can still compete at the top while doing this!
actually i might be wrong on my initial statement, i'll have to re-read the news post again. one thing for sure though is that he's moving to america and studying over there in 2013. his professional starcraft career etc. im not too sure about.

I know, but the players of those teams who don't travel a lot has been on the team since forever, and are all nowhere near Polt's level of play, with the exception of Sheth who has looked good every now and again, but haven't seen anything from him in a long time.

Strongly disagree. A gsl championship, numerous international tourney championships, code S regular, inspiring play on multiple instances, and 3rd place finish in the most recent IPL, the most stacked tournament of the year.
Think it is a move made of win. He has competed in a worse environment, while still maintaining his university studies. Now he can make more money, master the English language even better, gain more popularity, and could even focus even more on studies and still be highly competitive.
Considering TL is in dire need of a terran, I think Polt is a good candidate. HOWEVER, wouldn't they want a new recruit to bolster their roster in Korea instead of their 'international' roster?

With Liquid, Polt can stay in form and not rust like he would in EG, and he'd be the perfect candidate to represent Liquid in foreign events while the rest of Liquid+T8.Jaedong are carrying the burden of the so-called "Unholy Alliance" in Proleague.

It's actually not good for NA at all, do you have any idea how hard it is to go from nothing to a successful pro gamer in NA?
All the MLG's are filled with Koreans, all the NASL's are filled with Koreans, all the IPL's are filled with even more Koreans.
There are no events that aren't extremely extremely difficult to win. In EU, the Koreans don't travel there as much and you actually have a shot at winning something like a dreamhack, homestory cup, or IEM.
America is their playground, they take 90%+ of the money from every premier event.

If enough good Korean pro gamers move to NA you will never see a real NA player in a premier tournament ever again.
And no they aren't going to restrict access to polt from playing in NA qualifiers, technically he is NA and it would be unfair to make him play with lag on KR to qualify. Golden and Sleep played NA qualifiers.
Don´t think this can work, studies and gaming, his level will drop so badly...
I would liked it more if he would just retire, so we could have the great Polt in memory and we don´t have to suffer with him when he loses games he would have won before.

Why do you need to be so dark . Think about long term, top class players moving to NA could potentially make their ladder more competitive, therefore raising the skill of possible training partners.

In the long term NA pro gamers won't exist outside of EG and complexity, because they have no opportunities outside WCS to actually compete with players equal to their skill. What's happening is NA " pro gamers " are becoming NA " semi pro gamers " and they play on the side while working other jobs or being in school, leading to low level play on average. The only way to fix this is to inject money into NA events that only NA players can join, build something competitive and sustainable. The level of play will rise by itself if people have something to strive for, if there's a NA GSL suddenly being the best in NA will make you lots of money and It's worth it to spend a lot of time training.
Unfortunately in reality this is never going to happen and NA pro teams and pro gamers will die out, they've already begun to in fact.

Having financial security so that players don't have to worry whether or not they can pay their rent hurts their ability or motivation to perform?

I think it depends how long the contracts are as well. Since I think most contracts are 1 year, I don't think the players want to slack off too much since they want to maintain a level where their next contract would even pay more.
Choi Seong Hun @Polt88 I think you're wondering my next team. Actually I didn't find a new team to be well mannered to TSL. So I don't know anything yet.
It is a sad news. He is not retiring, but studying and being a pro in US means he will no longer be one of the best Terrans in the world. Not only studies are time consuming but US is far from being a good place to maintain as a good player.

viOLet, man
You need serious practice partner to be good as terran tho. Zerg can use mostly ladder.
my heart breaks that he is leaving the GSL. the GSL is still, and will forever be, the most important competition in the world. not playing in the GSL makes it impossible to truly measure a players greatness at the highest level. I was hoping to see Polt in Code S, fighting for Terran, for years to come. I'm going to miss him in the GSL so much. That's just my opinion, anyway.
Shock that he left but no so much after learning that he is leaving for school. Polt is such a great role model for up and coming players; good at the game and always improving, great personality, and continued effort at his education.
I wonder if Polt is going to sign with a CSL team? (which would make Azubu a really good choice for a pro team)
azubu or maybe liquid. Polt is afterall a very smart and friendly player and i can imagine him fitting in teal liquid especially with his good english :D
Sad for TSL, but I'm happy that Polt is continuing his education while still playing SC2 And if he goes to EG... oh god that'd be amazing. Polt's awesome ^^
I don't believe it will be EG. Polt is not planning to be full time pro. EG needs full time pros which will be streaming and going to as many tournaments as possible. Polt is not going to give them this as he is going to study.

I think when you have better opponents, which means you have to be better, than otherwise, is a good thing. It is like Mohammed and the mountain. Now Korea came to NA instead, and both sides can learn from each other. You are in another perspective.
It is supposed to be hard going from nothing to something. Otherwise anyone could do it. It gives NA a higher aim to do better, when it is harder to compete. It is not a lost cause either.
Lastly, Polt is a likable and intelligent guy, and that can only be a plus.

I rather believe that it may be Azubu or Liquid.
Suppy is still a part time student tho.
True, I forgot about it. And Suppy in EG is still surprising thing to me. Mostly in positive way.
So sad, he was a symbol of TSL. As far as new team choice goes, I would venture to say that Polt is too much of a nice guy for EG. Azubu seems like a good fit, though..

EG polt, think about it EG potentially could pick up another player they likely will lose a few. Incontrol is a caster for them now, Machine, while I enjoy watching him play, is not really that great of a player and doesn't bring that much value to the team when you have stephano, idra, puma, jyp, Jaedong, ect ect. I am not a hundred percent sure on this. This is because alot of them are simply not returning to korea. This is merely just something i heard from a friend though
I don't see him going to TL or EG. A major team wouldn't make sense. It's more likely he'd go to Azubu or CoL, since he probably won't want to leave the country. Just stick with MLGs and other non travel heavy tournaments.

Yeah, cause 3rd place at IPL5, beating Creator, Sniper and Bomber isn't performing right?
I could definitely see Complexity picking him up due to their recent roster changes. And with Sea retiring on Liquid, I wouldn't say they're out of the question either.
On December 22 2012 21:04 Topdoller wrote: Wow, could this be a opportunity for TL to pick up Polt to replace Sea? i hope so cause TL + Polt would be really popular
Sea cannot be replaced. There's no other Sea. And he was in Team Liquid not because of his SC2 skills.
Oh my. With Revival and Polt now gone (and inori though the effect of his departure/retirement was lesser), TSL lacks depth in terms of a GSTL roster; they're going to need to train up some of their lesser-known players such as Center and Shine- Code A players with potential. At the moment they've only HyuN and Symbol in terms of top-tier roster depth.
Most likely will be going to Azubu. Makes the most sense considering azubu was recently expanding and already have players in the US. For sure won't be TL or EG since they are focused on PL and if he is in the US he can't help with that.
Surely it's time for Polt to join marine king on team Polt?
But seriously, this is so sad. Without Polt in the GSL I don't know who I'll care about. Maybe Squirtle? It's hard to really back Hyun at the moment when there's been far too much zerg lately...
TBH it would be terrible for TL or EG if they picked up Polt. Yes he is a great player and character but they should be focusing their resources on PL. Polt wouldn't be able to play in PL at all so it doesn't make any sense.
Damnit my favorite player in SC2. Can't say didn't see this coming... especially with a promising academic career ahead of him. I am sad but also happy for him in moving on with life. Goodluck Polt!
If EG buys him too then they might have enough players that their team can practice and get out of that loop of stagnation that most EG players go thru....or wait, its a curse, not their fault.........
EG wont buy him hows that make sense if they would want to focus on proleague and other tournaments. Polt is in murrrca to study and having him sign up to eg and going back to Korea and elsewhere wont make much sense unless money. If anything it would be Col or axiom but much more towards Col. However he could be gosupolt too aha

I don't think it's Axiom, their whole point is to make a Korean-based team. could def see TL pick him up since theyve had sea retire
Polt only playing aprt time may turn people off though
This would've been a more useful pick to EG than Revival (no offense to his abilities, its just they have so many good zergs). I think that after Sea's loss and having missed the boat with MMA, this would be a solid pick for Liquid, but since Polt's moving to the US though, that's pretty unlikely. Having read how complexity was looking to recruit "star" players and they were bumping down Ganzi, I think its going to be a move to complexity. I'd love to see Root.Polt though.

Not really. Revival was signed to strengthen their roster for PL. Polt obviously cannot play PL when he lives in the US.
Wow, huge blow to TSL, but good for Polt! Though I'm more happy for Polt, I'm still sad because he's one of my favourites, and this definitely puts a timer on his SC2 career. GL to him though.
I hope Polt continues to play and practice hard. He's got his own way of playing and it'd be a real shame to lose that. Hope that things work out well for him though

he didn't leave it lol. most universities allow you to take 4 semesters off, or accept semesters/courses from other universities if you pay/get a scholarship for an abroad semester.
About 7 hours ago an article on Polt's motivations to leaving TSL was made. If someone wants a translation, I can do it, but it doesn't really say anything new.
TSL is dead imho with this move =( Coach lee said previously he only continued TSL because a promise he made to Polt. I've also heard Symbol/Hyun having talks with foreign teams RIP TSL
Sounds pretty dubious, if it was from more sources I could believe it, but purely desRow's words against nothing is fairly weak. HyuN and Symbol have no real reason to leave TSL, and they all seem to like Coach Lee and Kim. Polt has more motivations and reasons to leave, while HyuN and Symbol like to stay in Korea and don't study in university. If they do leave, TSL is dead again x_x

I'm good friends with Coach Lee and I know for a fact he is going to hopefully try to keep TSL going. He has a lot of passion and a loy of love for his players. I know even recently they have had some talks with possible sponsors.

From interviews with Coach Lee, TSL is his passion project and life, its his child in every way possible. He would rather not create another partnership with another team than change the name TSL. Polt is a different case, I think there was always the possibility of Polt leaving, even to me, and when Polt joined, he acted more like a temporary stability for the team. Coach Lee knew Polt would leave, and that is why he left in amicable terms. HyuN and Symbol are now the core of TSL, and I doubt Coach Lee would ever drop them.

Sounds good, but how much help would he be if ha can't play in korean teamleagues? Liquid needs another player or two for those imo.
With Liquid, Polt can stay in form and not rust like he would in EG, and he'd be the perfect candidate to represent Liquid in foreign events while the rest of Liquid+T8.Jaedong are carrying the burden of the so-called "Unholy Alliance" in Proleague.
Polt is a handsome debonair, not a frat kid. Either way, it's great to hear that he won't stop playing.
Ze EG Curse? Are you stupid? :p
Why would he rust on EG but not Liquid? Come on now, stop parroting talking points
maybe because EG pays better = more financial security = less drive to succeed in tournaments? i dno lol
Come on man, you're a respected member of the community, please don't give credence to this nonsense. So being paid more is bad for a player's performance? Having financial security so that players don't have to worry whether or not they can pay their rent hurts their ability or motivation to perform?
I'm not really a fan of EG, but they get a lot of unwarranted shit in these forums. I'm indifferent if Polt joins them, but it would be cool to see Polt and Stephano as teammates.

Polt didn't leave TSL when they were shit, everyone had left, and it was pretty much him and 10 nobodies. Now that they have himself, Hyun, Symbol, Shine, and Center, I see no reason for him to leave, especially as captain. Coach Lee pretty much sends him to every foreign tournament he wants to go to. He could probably get a good contract from a foreign team heading into 2013 because of his foreign popularity, top notch English for Koreans, personality and being a top three or so Terran, but I don't think he would leave TSL.

On the bright side, more Polt in MLG, IPL and possibly Euro tournaments. Sucks he has to leave GSL though, he has always been a consistent GSL player, and seemed happy with his progress in Korea after defeating Bbyong.

Well he's been doing ok so far studying in korean while playing... Also Life is in school still and he's doing really well... Stop being no negative and actually do some research on him next time instead of making such a stupid statement.
Polt was studying at the best school in South Korea and yet still practiced and played SC2.....
He took a break from the school to play the game. Maybe you are the one who needs to do the research
He didn't take time off until *after* he won the Super Tournament. Granted, the later stages of the ST occurred during his summer break, but he maintained his GSL form and made it through most of the ST while in school.
Depending on what he's studying in America it would appear that he went back to finish his ugrad work too, technically he said he was only taking a break for a semester, but I think it's safe to assume he stayed away longer than that with all his foreign appearances.

Liquid Polt Liquid needs another terran, and a player willing to play in foreign events on a regular basis. Also Liquid really looks for people with great character and values, someone who looks at a team as a family not just money. Polt would make a great addition.
wow. hope he finds a good team, he's such an awesome player and guy. for the aforementioned reasons, i would be surprised if he doesn't find a good team though. given that he's in the US, i kinda feel like EG might be interested in him, but since they just recently acquired a bunch of players i'm not sure if even they can afford another high profile guy like him right now.
I don't like TSL, as an EG fan, my reasons are obvious. However, I do hope they recover nicely because the SC2 scene does need diversity in powerhouse teams.
I felt like TSL was definitely a powerhouse team prior to Polt leaving, albeit they don't have a strong protoss player. But with Hyun, Symbol, and Polt, they were pretty darn strong.

IMO that's more of a financing issue than a set-in-stone behavior style. Taeja, Hero, and Zenio were all fairly mediocre in the beginning and I don't think many people predicted how good they would get (especially since Hero didn't get much screen time when oGs also had MC/Vines/Inca).

Violet? He actually didn't do much until he left Korea. Granted, he's a freak and not by any means the norm, but it shows that it isn't impossible.

Taeja had already showcased a lot of skill before Liquid picked him up, he was just overshadowed by the rest of the Slayers Terrans who were all Code S regulars and Boxer. And Zenio was also in Code S prior to joining Liquid and he dropped off the face of the earth soon after. Of their Korean pickups, Hero is the only one who fits the bill of being mediocre beforehand.

I was thinking it's probably a foreign exchange/study abroad program, so he'll maybe be taking classes at a partnered university in the USA. It lines up pretty well time-wise as well, since most US universities start the new semester early-January. But this is all speculation, of course.

Exactly what I think, they are focusing on proleague so Polt would not be a good choice. They also recruited 2 players recently and I don't think Jaedong was cheap.
TSL will be fine. Symbol, HyuN, Shine - those are really good players. Not the level of Polt, but as far as the team goes, I'm mildly optimistic about their future.
But I don't think Polt will join either EG or TL anytime soon. I'd be inclined to think he'll join a lower tier team (if they can meet his demands and expectations) in order not to feel so much pressure and play SC2 on a more liesurely, but still high quality, basis. Axiom, maybe?

TL could do with just generally more players. They have realistically 6 right now (Nony hasn't played in any team events for 6 months or solo events for 9), and they don't need a KR player since they are partnered with EG. Adding someone to help them in other competitions (e.x IPTL) where you need 5 players (which is all but one of their current realistic roster) means they would have a little more flexibility, plus he should fit with the TL ethos for players.
Since he's moving to the USA I'm guessing the only teams besides TL and EG that will give him the support and salary he'll undoubtedly demand are Azubu and Axiom.

a different thing happened with oz, though. i started off by liking leenock, and that spread to the rest of FXO. but when oz left, i cheered him on for a bit, but for some reason it dropped off =/ maybe it was a combination of zerosc2 liking him too, or that oz slumped a lot, but it's a bit strange how i came to cheer for certain players/teams haha.
i'm not sure what i would think of the players or teams had, say, marineking, leenock or creator left their respective teams.

a different thing happened with oz, though. i started off by liking leenock, and that spread to the rest of FXO. but when oz left, i cheered him on for a bit, but for some reason it dropped off =/ maybe it was a combination of zerosc2 liking him too, or that oz slumped a lot, but it's a bit strange how i came to cheer for certain players/teams haha.
i'm not sure what i would think of the players or teams had, say, marineking, leenock or creator left their respective teams.
For me It's player loyalty > team loyalty, but some players I only like because they are on a certain team. Sometimes you start cheering for someone but over time it fades, either due to a change in their style or a lack of exposure so you don't think about them so much.
For example, I used to really like Symbol but then his play became boring to me and I stopped cheering for him over other players that I like even remotely.

Polt (not confirmed) is going to study in Texas, so that means he'd be living near Violet. Connection. Polt is good friends with Taeja. Connection.
Polt has connections with all the probable suitors.

EG sounds like a good fit to me, they sign big players and then allow them to slack off and not work as hard as they did to get to where they are (Ex. Huk and Stephano who both said in recent interviews that they don't care for practicing or playing much at all anymore, if i was signing the EG checks i'd be more than a little peeved...lol)
He could sign a contract with EG to pay for his schooling and never even really have to try to win or care about SC2 ever again, sounds like a win win.

and still be the best or second best EG player on the roster.
EG probably could afford Polt, but they're focused on Proleague. Polt could probably come over every so often and stay a week or two to play in some games, but he wouldn't be able to live in the team house in America or Korea.
Azubu or Liquid would be the best fits. Axiom would be nice as well, but they're focused on being a Korean team and having a member living off alone in America would probably not be the best thing since they want to have enough players to be in the GSTL. If Polt went to Azubu, he could just become Violet's bro and do what he does: win lots of foreign tournaments, go to Korea once and a while, and become American.

i thought violet moved back to korea since azubu wants to participate in the GSTL?
I doubt its Azubu, because it looks like they will focus more heavily on the Korean scene now. I also don't think its Liquid as Polt doesn't really fit in to their philosophy of recruiting rising players with potential. EG maybe, but probably not because they would rather pick a player that will stay in Korea for SPL.
I think it could be a team like SK or a foreign team that will allow them to study and support him financially. I think it might be a team like Axiom to be honest.

Firstly, that's not GosuGamers, that is GosuCoaching (completely different and not really affiliated with any teams, just players and run by community members like Xeris). Polt's been on that site for a very long time (A year according to the site.). What does that site have to do with EG other than showing a few EG players for coaching? It is just a coaching site that advertises coaches that has been in the community for a very long time. Plus if we use your logic he could be going to ROOT because Catz, Drewbie and TT1 are on that site too, or even TL because of Sheth and Ret. Not to mention that site appears to be all but abandoned since the last news update is from two weeks shy of a year ago and there is almost no activity on it other than spambots in the player guestbooks.

These were my initial thoughts, EG is concentrating on their PL team, so it doesn't seem likely they would pick up a player who just left Korea.
A very strong consistent player, it will definitely be interesting to see where he ends up during his time in North America.
I think it's Abuzu. There is no way Axiom is gonna have enough money for Polt at the moment. It also could be Liquid, but not very likely since they already got one superstar terran. Any other team wouldn't fit for him except maybe Fnatic would be the wildcard choice.
Polt is in my opinion the most valuable terran of all time of sc2. Its not bias or fanboyism cause im not this kind of guy. I dont belong to any kind of fan club or so, and i play all 3races. BUT, i watched a lot of polt stream, and i think (and im not the only one) hes the by far the most smart terran player i ever seen. I use a lot of his replays to coach my noob friends and also to improve my skill. Picking him up is a big deal, especially because of his knowledge and his amazing understanding of the race. This is a big deal cause he can also provide a very good council to other terran players. To me, the ideal team for him would be SKTT1 because of its obvious terran history, but thats a little bit bias i got to admit. Otherwise, good team would be Empire, cause there is a lot af very talented terrran who would be better with polt's advices and knowledge. And good europeean terrans is something i want more.
considering he hasn't found a foreign team yet (so he says) could it be possible that he ends up going solo for a while as he completes his studies before returning to a Korean team?

Nah, he'll probably find a team pretty easily. I mean, if Azubu is in talks with TOP and Inca, then I see no reason why they wouldn't want to talk to Polt who is the best free agent. He just didn't start negotiating with any teams because it wouldn't have been right to TSL. Basically did the opposite of what aLive did.
I heard Polt will make his team decision on the 30th when he arrives in America. The source also said a lot of foreign teams were looking for him, but he favors Liquid, Azubu and EG with a preference for Liquid. Reminder this source is completely uncertain and probably unreliable. Also, apparently Polt told TSL about two months before about his decision (also from the uncertain source).
I'm more sad because Polt is likely dropping GSL for this, when he looked confident and said he was playing his best recently. We likely won't see Polt in HotS GSL I think.
speaking of which, both axiom and azubu are going to be GSTL teams next year right? i expect NSH to stay in, and fnatic to drop out though. still, net +1 team is cool.
Polt last time he was a free agent was coming off a title win and a GSL Ro4, but he wasn't as popular as he is now. He really marketed himself well in 2012 by speaking English in interviews, streaming, and becoming one of the more popular Koreans. He should be getting bigger offers this time around from foreign teams.

Axiom with 3 players?
I don't see Axiom as a contender. They want to have a GSTL team and with so little players, all five or six would need to be living in Korea. With Polt staying in the US for 2013, that is impossible. TB also said he wants another sponsor before adding on.
Azubu, Liquid or even EG would be perfect. Can live in US, get flown to any tournament he wants, and go to Korea if he wants to. Fnatic could also do the same, but their team is not in the best place at the moment, and Oz along with Alive kinda have done a nose dive in the past six months.
Polt going abroad around this time...probably to TX (speculation) - seems to be going on an exchange student program, which will be for one semester. He can fund to apply independently for study abroad program ($40K+) but it's quite rare thing at his uni so I assume it's on a reciprocal exchange. Also, he's not on vet major...it's much closer to biological sciences. (usually abbreviated ABC - Animal Biological Sciences, basically biological sciences concentrating on animals, not humans.) Well...if he's going to US on an exchange student - whoa! That means he has GPA at top 5% at LEAST - from a fellow SNU student
Best of luck to Polt - whether he plays SC2 or goes back to his studies...
I was gonna say Azubu you heard it here first but after reading comments it seems like quite a lot of people are expecting that. It would be one of Polt's best option imo.
Polt played some good zergs like sniper i believe at IPL i think. He really understood how to counter the broodlords and the infestors and the corruptors.. His tanks were the backbone which flanked and countered the infestors. The marines were in enough range to get at some broodlords, but his vikings and ravens with HSM were really doing a great job reducing the corrupors and broodlord count.
Terrans don't play that way against zergs. It's the only way that terrans can win these days against zergs. Ironically polt struggled against a strong protoss, which was strange. He shouldn't have split his army, and he went for a delayed all in.. He could have out macroed the Protorss, if he just stayed patient. I forgot who he played at IPL though.
polt and symbol were the only reasons i liked TSL. i wouldnt mind seeing him play for a foreign team but it's not like he hasn't been hitting the foreign tournaments hard anyway.
i would love to see liquid polt. But unfortunatly it dosent fit in viktors premisse to contract players wich are not top players yet but have a lot potential.
complexity would fit as well and they need new players as well!

Don´t think it will happen, TL only recruits fulltime players and not students, because they have a high player standard, also he couldn´t participate in Proleague.

Why does a foreign university make a difference on the workload? I'm fairly sure that a top Korean university would be as tough as a top American university.
If he is sensible with his work then he should easily be able to continue practicing, although he will have to refine his practice regime as he will have less hours available.

Somehow I don't feel Life's school is as time consuming as the superior studies Polt is engaging :<
no offense to any of you, but don't you have any fucking perspective on pro gaming at all? No one can do this forever (white ra and boxer exceptions lol) you get paid peanuts and there is no transition for when you retire. I am so happy he is continuing his studies.
He was going to Seoul National University, a top 100 uni in the world, would be a shame if he gave that up for starcraft.
Sad yes, but inevitable. We should celebrate his career, not tear up. He is going some place better, with a future, and I know he will represent the community well.

and absolutely not. Lets face it, SC2 aint no BW, but you still need to practice every day to be at the pro level. His skill will inevitably decline, but such is life... T_T

I am comparing it to workload of Life. At foreign university, the language barrier makes you slightly more demanding as well. Although since he qualified for the exchange program, his English should be decent.
Also, he took a year off from his studies for sc2 this year so it will be a huge change in the amount of practice. But overall, I think it is great for Polt because progaming careers just don't last too long. Nice to see he is getting a good education.

Nah, most Korean universities are not nearly as difficult as US universities, especially when you add in the challenges as an international student, which is kind of weird because of how the Korea K-12 systems is.
It depends on what Polt is going to school for in America. If he is really just going to an American university to take English classes, then he'll probably be just fine when it comes to practicing, traveling, whatever. If he's going overseas to continue his animal biotechnology degree, then he'll probably just show up to major events such as IPL, MLG, and a few other foreign LAN's.
The only thing I've seen so far is that Polt is going to America to learn English. If this is the case, then it probably means he just wants to live in the USA, become better at learning English, and join a foreigner team so that he can communicate well and thrive in a foreign environment.
I think its more than just going there to learn pure English to be honest.
Seems kind of farfetched to just travel to the USA to learn english. Ofcourse you can move to USA to learn english but to me it sounds rather odd, the language barrier isnt huge for him (rather say its almost non-excistant since he speaks it well). For a foreigner its usually harder to speak english than read it. And to be able to read it is what he needs to be able to do if he wants to study there. And thats what I think he will do. He believes he has enough english skills to study his main courses there but he also wants to improve on his english skills while just studying his main stuff.

Or Polt just wanted to kill two birds with one stone: join a foreign team, get an actual salary, and go to foreign events, but also go to an American university and get better at English. Polt only has one year left to go to finish his major, so he can go back whenever he wants when his progaming career is done. He's 24 and probably has 2-3 years of being a very good player, especially since he has never been known for his hand speed. I don't see this as a semi-retirement, but more of a chance to win lots of money in 2012 and have a less hectic schedule.
The way I see it, Polt is milking what is left of his progaming career to earn as much money as possible and learn some English along the way. From what I remember from an interview, his parents prefer him studying in SNU rather than gaming, and he probably respects the decision and doesn't want to delay his education too long. Considering Polt is fairly old for a progamer, he is at the peak of his popularity and skills, so why not join a foreign team, gain more recognition, travel, master a language and play in easier foreign tournaments? I doubt Polt will stay until LotV, so a long-term SC2 career isn't his goal, its taking the opportunity to maximize his gains while doing his passions.

As a carrier plan, you gotta agree the 2 / 3 years of playing SC2 really paid off for him.

For sure. When he won the Super Tournament he was still studying and that was only the point where people realised that he wasn't just the other Terran in Prime that wears glasses and uses bio. In his year off he's improved so much as a player and he consistently proves that he's one of the best Terrans in the world. He's also one of the most popular Korean players in the foreign community and he's done that without being on a foreign team or being Mvp.

He attends compulsory school for kids, it is not really comparable. Flash only slept in school to be able to practice during the nights.
English is a pretty hard language to learn. Good luck to him but knowing how good at English he already is he'll probably do just fine. I hope for the best for him!
The more I marinade on the possible choices for Polt, the better TL sounds. But I do think a big turn off is Polt deciding to move to the US to focus on language.

Is that really true about Flash? Or was it exaggerated to show how much he practiced. No offense, if it was only a few days, then it was ok. But if he was consistently allowed to sleep in class just because he was a top progamer, that is pretty irresponsible of the school. Kids should at least finish high school before they decide to stop their education.
I am not sure how he will be a full time student and a full time gamer. I understand he needs to think about his future but it would really suck if we lost the Polt we know...

You know you guys find English easy because it takes loads from German and loads from French? So for someone coming from a Korean background that will OBVIOUSLY be very different. Obviously it's easy for you to learn English in the same way it's easy for an English-speaking person to learn French or German.
As a side note - having learned plenty of French I don't see what makes it harder than any other western european language.

English is relatively easy to learn compare to most other languages. It also helps that English is so wide spread globally. Even Koreans who do not study English will know some basic English words. You see English used in Kpop, advertisements and so forth.

English is relatively easy to learn compare to most other languages. It also helps that English is so wide spread globally. Even Koreans who do not study English will know some basic English words. You see English used in Kpop, advertisements and so forth.
given that Polt has a fairly good at english compared to other Korean pro-gamers, I think now the hard part is picking up on all the intricacies, idioms, and such to sound like a native speaker. I'm thinking he wants to be on the level like other people who can speak both fluently (lilsusie, smix, etc.) where when they speak in Korean or English, they sound like and talk like a native speaker.
Random English words tossed into ads and products does not mean that people seeing them automatically become good at English. Heck, as someone from Hong Kong, you should know that having English all around you in a similar manner does not equal to proficient English!
As a side note - having learned plenty of French I don't see what makes it harder than any other western european language.
French is harder than many other languages is because its quite different from other languages in grammar. (comparing with european languages since those are the only once i have a decent idea about their grammar.
But there are languages such as finnish that are just plain dumb in how hard it is to learn. I find Korean/Japanese to be easier to grasp than finnish and I'm swedish with serveral finnish friends.. ~~

Hmm, it is one of the easiest languages to learn if you ask me, i learned english and french in school and i think french is WAY harder. Also i think german is pretty damn hard to learn with the retarded der, die, das articles. So, he should be quite fine and also Polt knows english pretty well already and if you are actually forced to speak a language 24/7 you learn it even faster
Happy for him that he can approach his dreams and i love to see more of him!
Don't forget that learning from german to english is a lot easier then from an asian language to english. If it is anything like japanese/chinese you can't simply translate word for word since the grammar is beyond just different, its a completely different world. oh and if you want a retarded language to learn go for dutch, we got more exceptions then stuff that follows the rules.

Yeah, english is pretty easy. But for the comparaison, French is probably the hardest in western europe. ( because finnish, russian and stuff are another level in that x) )
You know you guys find English easy because it takes loads from German and loads from French. So for someone coming from a Korean background that will OBVIOUSLY be very different. Obviously it's easy for you to learn English in the same way it's easy for an English-speaking person to learn French or German.

I am not saying people would be proficient just because of have English all around them. It is just that at least they have SOME exposure as compare to something like French or German.

You mean germanic languages, not european.
Because French grammar is quite similar to other romance languages, but with the least intuitive ortography of all since it allows for an obscene amount of homonyms and silent letters.
Wish people would stop confusing romantic and romance in regards to language. I mean, I understand that there is such a thing as a romance language, it's just seems like a global version of Chinese whispers, with it originating at Romanic languages, and now being a romance language.

I dunno about how it is compared to other romance languages, but even though English is a Germanic language I still find the grammar in French to be very similar to English at least, in terms of tenses it's really similar. I suppose sometimes word order changes. The only thing I had trouble with was the subjunctive as far as I went...

A lot of similarities exist, both in grammar and (even more so) in vocabulary. There are historical reasons for this, namely the Norman conquest which introduced a completely new, French-speaking ruling class.

A lot of similarities exist, both in grammar and (even more so) in vocabulary. There are historical reasons for this, namely the Norman conquest which introduced a completely new, French-speaking ruling class.
However there was VERY little integration as the Norman rulers decided that they were better than the locals, and ruled from the heavens. This meant that there was very little linguistic integration at that time, and most of the french in English now came at a later date. Some of it stuck, but a lot of it was kept VERY separate from the commoners.
In fact, the Norman speakers alienated themselves linguisticly because of this, and they also lost their connection to Normandy, and ended up speaking a completely archaic dialect compared to their brothers in Normandy.
Still, the lingustic relics of the period are still visible. For example there's deer, but deer meat is called venison. There's goat and chevon (goat meat). And so on.
And as I said, there are historical reasons, not just this one reason. The subsequent involvement of England in fights in France and other political events also contributed to this, but the influx of French into what we now know as English started with William the Conqueror's victory.

After thinking about it, I'm pretty sure Violet and Polt just hung out during IPL4/NASL, Violet was like, 'Yeah, I get to live in America, get paid well, and make tons of money by beating up North Americans in qualifiers and going to every foreign tournament', and Polt thought it was a good idea and left. Polt, only having a year left in his major, is probably not going to an American school to finish his degree. He is probably coming to America to beat all the foreign tournaments in 2013, become fluent in English, and join a foreign team that will send him everywhere he wants without GSTL obligations.

After all that stalking and theorycrafting, I still wonder why you aren't a personnal friend of the man himself. You probably know more about him than Polt himself. :p

Think about it and you will come to the conclusion what teams make no sense at all - that does not leave many options. Liquid makes no sense, because they only sign Up'n'coming Players like and no GSL Champions. EG would made sense like 2 month ago, but now they look like they want to focus on Korea/PL with their house and Polt living in the US would not help them. complexity would make sense, but I don't know if Polt and coL will come together!

Azubu?
Liquid wouldnt be impossible. they did just lose Sea after all.

TB said he wouldn't expand his team till he got another sponsor. Also he wants to compete in GSTL, so every player he signs will more than likely be based in Korea.
The most likely teams to sign Polt would be Azubu, Liquid, Complexity or EG.

It would be safer for him if he got traded but I like that he's trying to have a back-up plan. I wish him good luck with the studies. Axiom or Complexity might be a good fit, both seem to have a decent idea how to market their players.
For me the most logical team is Complexity. EG simply don't need a good player on the USA, Liquid don't try to recruit former GSL champion like Polt, it's too expensive. So we have Col, Axiom and ... FXO. The last is kinda a joke but they might choose to expand their roster of the NA server after the loss of Quantic and the roster difficulties of Complexity. I read earlier that Axiom don't want to recruit big terrans to not "hide" Ryung so we have Complexity.
If we consider that AZUBU will not recruit him, according to some interviews, we have no other team who want to recruit a big player for the NA tournament no ? Others NA teams are too small, Korean teams have now interest to do that and Euro teams are poor. Except Diginitas.

We have no interest in polt our NA squad is purely a development team to reach a certain level via practice with our or players/reps ect until choya deems them worthy to move into the or house

My opinion on the players is irrelevant, these are processes that you must go through to find new talent, most do not qualify and will be rotated out after an appropriate period of time just as the on-line practice partners in Korea do, sometimes you don't find anyone useful, sometimes you find players like Tear. It completely depends on the players themselves.
With EG focusing efforts on PL, actually recruiting Polt as a foreign tournament smasher makes sense if they had the money. Have JD Revival JYP and Puma focus on PL while making occasional appearances at the big MLGs while Polt + Stephano lead the other team.

Many consider danish one of the hardest languages, mostly because of the pronounciation, I have yet to encounter anyone who can pronounce all the danish words perfectly, of which are not born in Denmark

Sorry, guess there wasn't any context to my post. I mean, GSTL/Proleague decent. DeMuslim might get a win here and there, but he would probaly have 3+ losses for every win. They now have Revival, Stephano? and Jaedong as a backbone at the highest level. JYP is a very capable sniper. The problem with the backbone however imo, is they're all zergs. I don't know if that's a problem these days, but it's certainly very uninteresting to watch at some points. Parting would give them a huge edge. It's too bad they've let MMA and Ryung slip, but Ganzi and SuperNova are still there who knows! ^^
