I'll do some 1+1 and some speculating but I'll try to be moderate because a lot of those involved seem to be good people.

-It's relative but we can probably say that Naniwa was not a cheap investment for Quantic. Mark mentioned some numbers but I don't know how public he has been about it I wont quote him. There are probably more(possibly a lot more) expensive players but that naniwa had a decent contract should not be very controversial.

-Couple of months ago Naniwa said that if he would change teams they would have to take Sase too.

-On real talk Naniwa said Quantic had some form of financial issues(before the Vile merge?) and that after the Vile merge there was some form of double leadership. And possibly some Naniwa-related things changed around that time.

So, one reason that "Quantic had attempted to sell Naniwa for the last 4-5 months"(from Slashers gamespot article) could be to try to save money. And if Naniwa wanted Sase to be included in any team switches, that could have made it more complicated.

The Sase-Naniwa bromance ended and some teams are still interested and some aren't anymore according to Naniwa. And at least one team supposedly backed out when he didn't win the Swedish WCS.
There are hints all over the place about financial aspects, social relations, what roles different teams played this far and so on but I might have crossed the moderate speculation line already.

We don't know how much money he wants and such, but as unquestionably one of the premier foreign players, he needs to set the standard for salary. As Boxer said in his autobiography, one of the big reasons why progaming exploded in Korea was that he was given a "one million won" salary, which legitimized the industry and gave people something to aspire to.

That's funny, one million won is $1,000. You sure about that quote?

1 million won is $100,000
100k $
thats a lot.

nooo its not.

Good post from a pro, ty for the insight.

Are you saying that the KRW to USD translation is incorrect, or that USD $100,000 is not a lot for progamer salary?

The idea that Idra or Incontrol has any say in who EG recruits is pure insanity and drivel. EG has 1 superstar and his name is Justin Wong, everyone else is easily replaceable. They will get whoever can to please their sponsors

Carmac said it well, that when you see players leaving or quitting a team, 99% of the time it is a monetary issue. This isent very drama filled or interesting but is the reality. So most likely it is a issue about money

Wish Naniwa the best, he is one of the very few foreigners who has taken the battle to Korea and is trying to establish himself there, whereas many others havent.

his performance may pick him up a team just as much as his attitude wouldn't.

Very true.

Everyone wants more money no matter what your profession is. It is not greed, but just the need for financial security.

Nice to have the feedback of an actual progammer, thx, seeing it that way really helps understand the whole money issue.

You must be very strong minded having stayed in a Korean house all alone ! Shows your determination to improve !

Nani it's always a pleasure to watch your play, and I wish you the best of luck !
