If the term pro-gamer was restricted for people who make enough to live off on out of their gaming salary/winnings, then we wouldn't be calling many people pro-gamers.

It's quite impossible to be a pro without making it a living. How are you going to be able to work a regular day job AND get enough practice to compete on the highest level?

There are many pro golfers who subsist just on lessons and sales from pro shops. They don't earn any salary from sponsorships or tournament winnings.

By that definition we can add in a few more SC2 progamers.

For sure, if someone is making a living of SC2, be it streaming it or competing in it, he's by definition a pro. Someone not making a living of it is not a pro.

Good Riddance. Naniwa should have learned some manners before learning starcraft

At least we learned the definition of being a pro

he has a terrible rep which means the teams that can offer any kind of 'salary' won't be interested in taking him on. Korean scene pretty much hates him because of how BM he was towards Nestea right? I mean come on, way to shoot yourself in the foot.

I think Idra was right, this guy is done.

So WE can take from this interview that if WE praise him he'll think he'S to good for his oponents and play horribly and that all the heat he'S been taking has been a motivational tool that helped him become ONE of the best in the scene.

in conclusion:
nani is a fuckin bm proberusher cheeser 4 gate noob WhO blames everyhing on imba zerg!!!!!
take that

Naniwa disagrees. But then again, what would Naniwa know? I mean, why would you watch an hour-long interview with the person in question explaining most things instead of listening to Idra talking about him?

Why do players move teams so much? Is it about the money?

Pro's get paid to play before they even win anything, thats the difference, they get a wage just to compete

Ah sc2 community. Kids who've never had a job telling pro's they shouldn't care so much about money. Never change.

Shrugs I think it says more about said Koreans than about him that they can't let something as 'tiny' as that go for years, likely forever. Life is too short to grudge like that -.-

Living with your parents or having some kind of similar third party support.

"A professional is a person who is paid to undertake a specialized set of tasks and to complete them for a fee."
"The term is also used in sports to differentiate amateur players from those who are paid."

Edit: Someone who lives at home and plays at top level with no compensation would be considered a pro-am. Not sure we have those in SC2...

oh , no we dont know what they make, because neither teams nor players want to release data. But it is suspected that EG pays high 4 diggits salaries.

Uhm... per month then, I hope?

lol esports isn't made of money. people are lucky if they even get $100 compensation a month from teams. players on most teams don't even get paid regularly.

I don't think you understand what it means to be a progamer.

and i think you're delusional

How do you expect progamers to be able to play fulltime if they didn't get a salary enough to pay their bills and food etc?

Do you realize how much progamers actually have to pay to live? It's probably not much. I guarantee you that 30% of them live with their parents/other family. another 65% live with roommates/in a team house, and 5% in other circumstances. It's like being in university with financial aid. You live comfortably while someone else pays for everything you need to become a progamer while getting some money on the side.

Of course there is extra money, but don't think it's a huge sum tallying in the $100k's. No single sponsor or collective group of sponsors is stupid enough to throw that much money at one player at this point in the game. To believe that the highest paid players make any more than $20k-25k is just wishful thinking because it's probably not happening.
