User was warned for this post Clearly you're an ignorant moron. BW has been around longer yes, but it is currently and in my opinion will and should always be present in the competitive scene. It's a different game. You'll find dozens of threads explaining and discussing this all over TL. Please do some research before you make stupidly obtuse statements on subjects you have no informational basis to comment on. lol, if nobody is watching BW then it will die. i don't know how many people in Korea still watch it, but if the numbers are high enough, there is no reason for them to shut it down. i don't know why so many sc2 fans want BW to fail, maybe they want all the BW pros to switch to sc2 so they can see how those BW legends fare against the current top players. not to point out the obvious, but isnt it "dying" already because there is no support? sponsors are harder to find, one of the main leagues just went under (went to music), etc.

When brood war dies, eSports dies with it. Or not and esports continues on just fine, but hey to each their own. Considering how MLG almost went bankrupt this past year, and were forced to implement PPV only events, I would say that eSports outside of Korea is shrinking. Even Riot ended up losing a bunch of money from pushing LoL as an esport. Funny how all the sc2 babies like to sprout crap about brood war being "dead" when sc2 is in a FAR worse economic condition. It is different kind of economic condition tough. Brood war went from weak - strong - weak economic condition. Starcraft 2 is atm just in the weak phase, and depending on the upcoming years it can either be strong or stay weak. Oh and i wouldn't pay any attention when a company saids they don't make enough profit, especially not in this industry where people got a fetish from "supporting esports" (i hate that term personally) Randomly generalizing is not a good way to make your statement more valid btw.

in all seriousness though, BW hasnt been patched in forever. players have to start getting bored of it sooner or later. More like it delivered awesome diverse gameplay for over a decade so there never was a need for a patch......

Bet there's alot of korean SC2 pros sweating right now:D

Dude, get off your high horse. Generalizations are bad.

Eh, interesting OP, but the entire thread is devolving into the standard BW vs SC2 BS that pops up once in a while.

User was warned for this post I don't see why he's been warned for this post. No offence but Brood War is very dated in terms of many things: - Graphics look so dated that the game could probably have been ported to the SNES with little trouble.
- In terms of gameplay mechnics and controls, the game is more tedious to play than Kid Icarus: Uprising (a recently released brilliant game that is sadly hampered by terrible controls.) Remember that Brood War is from an era where the concepts of having more than 12 units or 1 building in a control group didn't exist and smart casting wasn't even implemented. To call Brood War a mechanically nice game to play would be a complete lie. Larger control groups didn't arrive until Age of Empires 2 in 1999.
- Every other country's e-sports scene has virtually abanadoned Brood War. Currently, iCCup and Garena are the only remaining popular ladder choices, it's been dropped as a World Cyber Games event and many ex-BW pros have switched either to LoL or SC2.
- For the last 14 years of Brood War's existence, South Korea has been entirely dominating in the e-sport to the point where there's virtually no way for a non-Korean to compete in Korea.
And that's not the same as SC2? Seriously, SC2 is dominated just as much by the Korean than in BW. I disagree. It really depends on which era of BW you look at. Pre-2006, there were a handful of foreigners that could go toe-to-toe with some of the Koreans. Not so much in more recent times.
Put Idra in a group with MVP, Nestea, and Lucky, and there will be some people that believe that he might catch a lucky break and make it out of the group assuming that MVP and Nestea are on an off-day.
Put Idra in a group with Flash, Jaedong, and Zero, and it would be a total joke.
Top foreigners are still very much competitive in SC2. How long that may last is not certain, especially if the BW teams start streaming in.

However the people who want that are already fans of those players. There is a sad misconception that it seems a lot of the BW fans in this thread are holding onto; that SC2 fans are against BW.
Have you read this thread, or any other thread about Brood War and Starcraft 2? Look at all the people going "Out with the old and in with the new" and talking about how outdated Brood War is and how they can't believe anybody still watches it. Plenty of Starcraft 2 fans want Brood War gone.

User was warned for this post Why do posts like this one get warnings, when people in the BW forum are free to call SC2 a shit game with no future? i agree with that guy. sc2 flaming = fine bw flaming = warning ? how is this supposed to be fair ? Do you throw insults at your grandpa? No dude, its just not right.. Its not like with buddies busting each others balls. When it comes to elders, one must respect and understand what they have done.
My grandpa understands he is not as good in football as his 18y old grandson. He might have to the skills but not the body, and due to limitation of his body, he will no longer get any better at it. 18y old grandson will get better.

Good on GOM to give Blizz the thumbs-up. They could have declined and said no, and then they might make more money. Glad too see that they care more about having more SC2 than more potential money

Or they could have said no and blizzard could have said "well, then fuck you." It would be pretty naive to think gom would just let in competition for no reason other than to be nice.

+1 wtf? who gave that warning? bw is old, he did not say anything offensive. Im a bw fan and sc2 ban, love both games, but bw is older then sc2.
I love bw, I love sc2 and hope it bring more fans to sc2, but hope scbw dont die.
