the question is. If he loses his first final does he play in ONOG? probably.

The tournament on this particular time was just the 1/2s and final. CatZ vs Kas, Stephano vs Illusion, and after that CatZ vs Illusion and Kas vs Stephano.

No Ro16, just these games.

Thanks for the clarification!

In that case, there is absolutely NO reason for an organiser to hold these matches so damn late in the day, even more so when the favorites to win are non-americans, which is confirmed by the 3 non-americans in the top 4.

My previous post stands and is even more reinforced.

You do realize that this was a barcraft event, right? You know what barcraft is and means, do you?

So barcraft mean no right for players ?

No, barcraft means its quite possible that you have to play in the middle if the night with 9 hours difference. If you dont consider that and sign in nevertheless, its not the tourneys fault. Stephano could have easily declined, could he not? Yet HE went to the OnOG-Staff and said "ill participate".

So either you lost a bit of reality while trying to be a good fan, or, well.. Nah, thats pretty much it. And sugarcoated as well.

They are not your entertainement slaves, if a player want forfeit they can.

Oh and by the way I hate Stephano nothing to do about being a fanboy.

So the tourney-orga, what are they? Expendable? Because as far as i can see it, they had to fix something that couldve been easily prevented? Not to mention that that was their first tournament, having an ass playing diva on that - i can imagine, had to be fun reorganizing everything on the fly.

If a player has to forfeit (meaning: has a reason), of course. But a player not giving a shit doesnt have to wonder why he receives flak. And no, being tired is not a reason. Its actually the problem, that would bring us to "he doesnt give a shit".

Edit: if he cared, he would have just played the games. Someone quoted Boxer in this thread, where he punched through. Thats called dedication. He very well may have lost the games, but nobody wouldve cared if they had seen at least the WILL to put on a fight. At least i would have. I dont like stephano (i think hes a spoiled brat, also i kinda cant see him without getting angry [Oo]), but you dont need to like someone to respect him. That has to be earned, but maybe im just too old for this eSport-world, where being an asshole actually gathers morons around you - congratulating you for being an ass.

So, the event started ~6 hours later than scheduled due to technical difficulties getting it running

This led to Stephano dropping out of the tournament, as he was too tired to provide the level of quality that would be expected/required of him

Not wanting to blueball the fans/community, the tournament bumped Stephano down to 4th and allowed the consolation match to be a bid for a spot in the finals

So the players won
Stephano won
ONOG won

Everybody got what they felt was best for them out of the situation. WHY IS THIS SUCH A HUGE DEAL

Any reasonable human being should be able to see all sides of the coin here, and understand that given the circumstances what occurred was a reasonable outcome. Shame on those of you attempting to ostracize and defame Stephano. While it wasn't a perfect situation, nobody did anything "wrong."

hahahahahaha can you imagine an MLG where someone left saying "eh, im too tired to play!" then walking out the door...he deserves more than a slap on the wrist which this is not....

He needs to learn a lesson but instead he isn't going to learn anything from this b/c it was a low prize pool tournament (for stephano). kinda sad to see someone like stephano not even at least try to play...kinda immature of him to do that

Afaik the only delay was the complete tournament waiting for stephano to show up, or better, him finishing his break. If it wouldve started 6 hours earlier, stephano couldnt have played the SCAN games. (two completely overlapping tournaments would be actually even more stupid on his side than it is now)

"There was a delay on the Illusion v Stephano game because Stephano was just getting done playing in the SCAN Invitational and wanted to chill out and eat before he continued on in the ONOG Invitational. [,,] Both Illusion as well as the viewers of the tournament had to wait until Stephano was ready to play.".

And i agree, there was a mistake, they should have disqualified stephano right about there. Not fourth, but just DQ him.

So, you could argue they delayed stephanos games for about an hour, yeah. But not on their own schedule, but for him, because he asked for that. And not only that, they offered him to play the final games while they cast 3rd/4th, and cast these games from replays - he declined that as well.

I think Stephano made the right decision here.

He cut himself out of a few hundred dollars, but in exchange he chose not to intentionally play badly for little money and no personal gain to his health or skill. I think he definitely chose the better option, because playing badly and having no investment in the game does not make for a good series.

I think that the people saying Stephano should have been aware of potential schedule conflicts are right, but nobody is perfect. Stephano was find $600 for his mistake, I think that's completely fair. No BM, no unprofessional behavior. He could've chosen to plan his schedule a little bit better, but he obviously did not expect it to drag on as late as it did. C'est la vie, nobody is perfect or has clairvoyance.

Those two statements are contradictory, he either planed his schedule using the worst case scenario as a guide -- and thus doing what pro players do -- or he just didn't act professionally and chew more than he could handle.
TBH, I feel this thread keeps going because of some new posters like you, who come here without reading much of what's written and post the most stupid reasons as to why Stephano did 'the right thing'..

You are pulling facts out of your behind. If you want to troll at least be smarter about it. He couldn't have possibly accepted to play in both tournaments if originally they were overlapping.. gosh.

So it wasn't 6 hours late, no. Just two and a half hours. Was still pretty late.

Based on which matches were to be played when, it's entirely possible that had things been running on schedule from the tournament end that the match timings would have worked out just fine. It certainly would have helped to clarify the situation for all parties involved.

Stephano REQUESTED a break, which was then granted. It's not as if he arbitrarily decided he would be late, he asked permission for, and received permission for, a break.

You're correct that he declined to play the finals match. As he has stated, he was not in a condition to deliver proper play. People who have watched his semi-finals match have mentioned that the games seemed lackluster.

So again:
Stephano got what he wanted out of the situation
ONOG was able to put together a sweet finals still, and probably with games of better quality than would have been had with Stephano

Ideal situation? No. Still no reason to be lambasting any party involved for what went down. Shit happens.

Handled exactly as it should have been.
You are not entitled to your spot in a tournament. Things like this make me happy, makes me feel like eSports is becoming more and more "legit".
Granted we already had kespa and whatnot (A SC2 version is probably much needed)

They weren late, where the heck do you get that from? As soon as they started their stream, there was a big, fat banner with "waiting for stephano to finish SCAN tourney" on it. From schedule, stephano was to play against illusion first. It could NOT have worked out. If they would have started 2,5h earlier (which wouldnt make sense), stephano would still be in his SCAN finals. Get it? They would have completely overlapped.

And yeah, he asked for a break, and it was granted. I guess, the tournament thought "well, lets be fair to him", makes it even better to get spit in the face, does it. But thats not the point, you are stating the "fact" that the tourney ran late, and you are correct. But ONLY because stephano asked for it to run late, so theres not really an argument on your side. If they had run ON schedule, he would have forfeited (or complained) right away.

Kinda pisses me really off, the fact that first he delays the complete tournament (and mind you, there were other players which had to wait as well), made everyone wait for him for an hour, just to throw the final? I wont start about "honor" or stuff like that, but i dunno, if i make someone wait for me for hours, i dont let him stand in the rain. Do you?

edit: ill tap out, im too tired to type even remotely proper english. Maybe tomorrow if the thread is still open.

I see people getting ready to all out rage over this and I don't see the huge deal here. Its unfortunate, but it happened. Its not nearly as bad as the Naniwa thing and people overreacted to that too.

People just want to pointlessly argue about it. For some reason, people love drama. I find it pointless as these threads turn into a e-peen measuring contest between people arguing who's right or wrong.

I think this is a big deal. I mean its Stephanos job to play Starcraft, so it's like going up to your boss saying: "sorry I can't finish this today, I am going to do it tomorrow or not at all!"
And I would not like that as the boss obviously....

And you I understand some people in this thread saying that it's not a big deal. Of course it's just one incident but if we just let players get away with stuff like that, It's going to be hard to grow and get respected as a community.

LOL at EG's Stephano slander campaign on ITG, where Demuslim took it out on Stephano for not playing all the matches he was involved with when signing with the ONOG tournament, and disapointing the audience, when himself forfeited in the middle of a tournament and threw matches to the face of fans (ESWC NA qualifier). Way to be a hypocrite, Ben.
(not talking about the fact he decided to throw his games only when he faced his team mate Idra, to secure him a step further in the qualifier rather than letting the players he eliminated earlier in the bracket to have a chance to face Idra and get the chance, that Ben and EG's trick robbed, to qualify)

Also Incontrol talking about endurance when he has never been in a situation where he had to play more than a bo3 in any tournament bracket he participated, due to being out everytime on the first round (despite MLG giving him all the second chances in the world where nobody else would, and for a good reason).
Why is Incontrol even talking about something he clearly has no clue about? Easy to talk about exhaustion in tournament when your experience of it resumes to settle your keyboard and putting in back in your bag a couple of minutes later.

"I would love that have his problems" - Looks like Jealousy has spoken through Incontrol's mouth, but making it loud enough to be heard isn't a wise choice if you want to look a legitimate arguer.

Fact is EG is trying to get Idra back on the spotlight and continues to bash people's mind with the illusion of him being the n°1 foreigner zerg, but that's not how to do it: he has to prove it himself, but sadly for EG he can't win a game to save his credibility.
That's what EG doesn't get, when taking everyone for dumbass sheeps, champions are made on the battlefield and recognised by the viewers, not built by the marketing squad and sold by force to people in contradiction with the actual results.

And ranting about it on a show will not change anything about it.
