The thread is pretty much tl;dr, but from what I read a lot of the posts are simply to state that they don't care.
If you don't care, why do you even post?

On topic: I think it's up to Stephano to decide what he wants to do. Go to sleep and not care about the drama that surely will follow, or play games that won't be any good versus a fit opponent.

From ONOGs point of view, I understand that losing out on a final is a big deal, and I can understand them having a new contender for the big game of the tournament. However, moving him to 4th place made me wonder how much of a stance they are taking. They accomodate Stephano the best way they can whilst still getting the best out of a bad situation.

In my opinion, I would rather see a full DQ with his position being next to Tyler's, at the bottom.

I agree with ONOG more than with Stephano, but if a guy who is in it for the money tells someone that his sleep is worth $1350 (I saw this amount somewhere in the thread) then I think he's pretty serious about him not being able to showcase an attractive final.

Stephano is right. Why should he play a game that he is going to lose if he isn't in his best shape? There is not just one tournaments, there are many and a progamer like Stephano lives on them. If one tournament acts like a douche toward him (did I see any pro-gamer play 3:00 am?) he is right to forfeit them. I would refuse all the tourney from ONOG from now on If I was him

Can't deny that if you stuck with the regime, you'd kick ass at SC (or hate it).

How did they, "act like a douche toward him?" My interpretation was that they gave him extra time but he said that he was too tired to play.

Stephano Double Booking Spree Continues, Tournaments fear for their lives

A Quote from McDuggle Jazzpanty the tournement organizer
We marketed Stephano as the number one player in the tournment, using his picture to draw viewers. Because Stephano is so popular, we're getting more attention and far more links and views. Since he keeps winning, and is supporting two tournements, I guess he'll just need to carry esports on his back. I'm sure we'll pay him in 90 to 120 days, depending on our cashflow. Kid should be grateful, he's living the dream. We're going to need more from him if he wants to keep getting all this love....

Thats not interpretion. They delayed the start of the tournament because of him. And they offered him to play the games and cast the replays, which he refused also.

And btw, maybe im wrong here, but im pretty sure that it was an US tourny. Which would take place deep into the night here in europa, even i know that - and i just WATCH the tourneys, i dont even play them. So someone could think that he knew beforehand that it would take that long (especially if you are the one that delayed it even further).

Yea, I don't understand how anyone could say the fault doesn't 100% rest on Stephano. You could maybe argue it isn't a big deal, but when you double book yourself, get special treatment because of it, and still pull this kind of bullshit, it's pretty clear who the douche is.

Don't forget Kas played in the finals aswell he is 1 hour ahead off Stephano. And he was perfectly fine to play the finals. Ofcourse he didn't play a whole tourny before that but still. I dont see why so much hate - just let it be.
Don't worry, that's halo!

What is the extra choice? Make him play in the core of the night?

That's not an excuse.

Stephano knew (or should have) what he was signing up for. He agreed to go through with the tourney. He didn't. That's the problem. It wasn't an unpredictable occurrence that forced him out. He should have known that he would have been tired and not to double enter into two tourneys. As it is he ended up going back on his implicit agreement with everyone involved in the tourney that he'd be in it until someone beat him in a boX. Since he went back on that implied agreement everyone has the right to be angry.

He willingly signed up for two tournaments. But yes, the other choice was to play at 2:30.

They told him he could play the games before and they would cast the replays, his answer was to log off

And lol, as if he didn't know that the event was gonna end during the night. It's a us event of course it's gonna end late. And maybe if he didn't delay the start and then took a 45min brake it would have ended sooner?

As a european player in a US tournament, thats pretty much normal, yes. Theres no way that he could be surprised by the time.

Good for you, Deric! I definitely support the decision - particularly the reasoning behind it! Good luck with future events, and I hope you are given a little more respect next time around. Thanks also for your crew's efforts in setting up the tournament! It may not be the biggest event of the year, but it is equally as appreciated for me!

If it's simply about viewers, then why not replace all foreigners in tournaments with Chinese players? Put all the foreigners out of jobs. They cost more, draw less viewers and aren't as accomodating. The Divina female tournament pulled 400,000 in China. Imagine what would happen for a major prize pool.

And if you want a homegrown option, then tournaments can just feature LoL. Dumber player drama, but less tournament drama and 3x-5x the viewers.

All about viewership, right?

Just because there are more profitable investments does not mean that there won't be any investors to the less profitable "niche" areas. As long as they are profitable, and that depends on viewers. So I see nothing in your post to actually challenge that assertion. I see ways it can potentially be challenged, but that is not it. It is of course more complex it is about viewers only so much as number of viewers can be counted to correlate with people buying (or positively affecting by word of "mouth") products of the sponsors. So in the end it is about conversion ratio between viewers and customers.

But also note where this discussion about viewers came from. It was a response to a guy claiming that in analogy to political process voting is equivalent to posting on a forum. Others pointed out that voting is more analogous to watching content. I see no reason to make it into some tangent as it was just a response to bad analogy.

EDIT: Now that I think about it I might have misunderstood you. If your post was a reaction to my post about Stephano having a lot of stream viewers then part of my response is still valid, but the rest not . I would just add that even that was meant to dispel the bad analogy with elections, not to draw any moral "ought" conclusions.

What if, knowing that Stephano might cause a disruption in your tournament, you invite all of the same normal players such as Kas, Dimaga, etc. but for Stephano's spot, include a top Chinese player?

My point is that you say he has leverage because of his stream numbers, but I don't think it's as much as you think it is. You trade the French market for the Chinese one, and still get the rest of Europe/NA. I think organizers can live with that.

They could of course benefit from that. Then again, they would benefit even more if they invited both Stephano and the Chinese guy instead of players like Machine or Hasuobs(just examples)
Machine doesn't disrupt tournaments. Stephano did it twice last night.

Neither does Stephano. You have to put things into perspective, this is the first(that I've heard of at least, could be more) out of what, 100 to 200 over a year? Looking at statistics it's far more risky to invite Polt than Stephano.

Let me get this straight..... he's 45 minutes late for a match and then later refuses to play the finals....... but he doesn't disrupt tournaments? Are you sure that's what you wanted to say?

Saying he disrupts tournaments implies it's something he regularly does or at least has done on multiple occasions. It's not.

It's happened on multiple occasion. So yes. This is the worst by far.

Ah ok now your points are clear. I apologize for what I said before.
According to what I know now, Stephano didn't act as a good mannered player if he was offered to play the games and register the replays and then publish them. He acted like a douche. The tourney acted well

This isn't Stephano's fault at all. If anything this is on ONOG for scheduling the times poorly for the players on EU. Furthermore it's there fault that Stephano has to put up with all this crap. And I felt this was over the top "Lastly, I would like to thank Kas, Catz and Illusion for agreeing to stay and finish these matches out for the fans." I feel like here he's trying to rub it in Stephano's face. Just poorly managed all around.
