Just saw a pro use Carriers in a tournament. Post it here! It wont be in vain. I’ll record it with all the other examples we
have. Been using Carriers to whomp other players in gold league? Post them.. Blizzard developers care about all

We Must Not!

The carrier is a bad 1a unit that overlaps a lot of other units and does not make sense in the overall Protoss gameplay. Until they change the mechanics of the carrier or make a major change in the race, I think we have to let the carrier go.

Thats the point. We want to SAVE the Carrier because they have NOT buffed it or nerfed it or changed the way it works at all. They have only worked on the Battlecruiser. We want to save the Carrier so they can buff it and or change the way it works. Blizzard getting rid of the Carrier because they won't take the time to make it better is stupid.

I won't be able to win a single PvZ or PvT without carriers in HotS. I better switch to terran. Thanks blizzard for showing me the true race, I don't want to go through all the suffering again with protoss being underpowered.

Have you ever played/watched broodwar? They nerfed it's microability and haven't fixed it since. Should look into these things before coming down on the Carrier. And besides, even if it was a 1a unit, which units is it overlapping? Colossus serves a different role than a carrier. The unit it's being replaced by, the tempest, has the same vulnerabilities and serves the exact same role. It's just cheaper and faster. You'd think they'd give that to the carrier...

The exact same role? No. The carrier's role is a unit that is decent against any unit but not exceptionally good against something either. While the Tempest with it's long range and small dps is really bad against almost everything except specific tasks such as sniping infestors for example from a broodlord infestor composition. Basicly it has a role to snipe vulnerable units from a low immobile army... and even mech isn't that immobile with the new warhounds and hellions, so basicly they will just a move and kill your base before the tempest even shoots.

Same role. They're both ranged air units that siege. Carrier is just unable to utilize it's huge range because of poor interceptor AI. The way their DPS/range works is merely to justify the difference and removal of the other. You really aren't supposed to amove carriers and be decent vs everything. You should be constantly moving in and out, picking off high priority targets with their huge range (which they no longer have). It's like the tempest except with way more micro. It's extremely saddening to see it go out, only to be replaced by such a shitty unit.

Well then, carriers at least have the dps to pick out high priority targets. Tempests have so poor dps making it so ineffective for their cost, you might just as well just warp in stalkers and suicide them in order to snipe stuff and least be able to use them in direct combat if they survive. I think exactly the same thing though, tempest is a really shitty unit, not balancable, either totally useless (like it is now) or too powerful.

I HATE Colossus-wars in PvP so I've been working on a PvP-style that disregards Colossi completely.
This is the first game where it worked reasonably well, in the sense that I actually got my carriers out (usually the game ends before then, both wins and losses). I am by no means saying that this is a 'good' build or that colossi are a bad unit (I love them in the other match-ups), it's just how I like to play (diamond EU, so not high level at all but not absolutely terrible either). Because carriers are funkin' AWESOME!!!

Carriers might have been a long range 'seige' unit in SC:BW, but they certainly aren't in SC2, and I don't think they should be. What it is in SC2 is the only protoss unit that can compete DPS wise with Marines and Hydralisk. Don't think of it like a unit like a Stalker, but as a flying barracks, or like a Swarm Host. Now, the Carrier is absolutely terrible compared to any of these options, but it's the best protoss has.

People seem to try and compare it to splash units like Collosus and Templar, but these units are both terrible in SC2, as decent micro hard counters both units, and no amount of micro will save either one. Now it would be ideal if SC2 units actually responded to micro, but protoss units don't, and so we need a unit we can actually use above diamond, eg when the players are capable of the remedial micro needed to hard-counter all ability of protoss to DPS, instead of forcing protoss to hide behind force fields and tink away for a minute or two and hope there is some economic / positional advantage to what they are doing because when the force fields fall there's no way they can handle an equal army.

I'm not even sure what any of this is supposed to mean. All I know is, I don't think theres confusion between the Carrier and the Colossus/HT's roles, and carrier is definitely a long range siege unit in SC2.

The worst thing Blizzard has done is not deciding to remove the carrier; it's not even bothering with buffing the carrier to give it a chance. You know if some buffs were introduced like attack while moving or simply reduced build time or increased armor for the carrier or interceptors or interceptor repair after relaunch or just reduced build time for the interceptors or maybe just removing the graviton catapult upgrade and making it something the carrier already has or ANYTHING at all; if they did any of these and the carrier still kept unused I might have endorsed their decision.

However, they just decided to do nothing; they knew it was rarely used; they heard from the pros and the community that some buffs were needed and still they did nothing at all. And even after all that we managed to see the carrier used in a few albeit very high level matches. I guess the community and the players failed Blizzard, they didn't want you to use the carrier at all. I expect Blizzard to nerf the carrier in WoL just to make sure its never used again.

I agree it frustrate me too. What reason could Blizzard have for not buffing the carriers? It seems like they do not want the carrier too be in the game. I mean we have one small buff and even then it seems like it was doing better. If Blizzard had tried then I am sure the carrier would be a useful unit.

Honestly, I think the Carrier should be re-adjusted to take the place of the MOTHERSHIP, not the Tempest. Disagree across the board with Tempest hate, being able to snipe units is huge, and it's actually the cheapest of all the Stargate units (50/50 per supply), people just want to be derpy and treat it like an A-Move unit, which it isn't. Criticisms that you can just mass and crush it, is silly because, that's the case in general for Tech. So jeers to anyone who is anti-Tempest.

Now, the Mothership. Seriously, we already have to live with one cheap alien-movie-knock-off unit, do we really need another? Just turn the Mothership into a super-Carrier. Everyone will be happy, and you can leave whatever Mothership skills you want on it (or take them away) and just increase the cost/build time accordingly.
