What has not been mentioned before as far as I know, is the fact that this simply plays to the character of the race.
Protoss are a race of few, but elite Warriors that can withstand masses of foes.
With cheaper upgrades people are more torn to using them, resulting in the play that Protoss was thought for.

I love it!

regarding the Zergs whining about Snipe I have two things to say:
1) this is not to be discussed in this thread, for this one is discussing the changes on PTR.
2) to instantly oppose what I said in 1) I still think that Zergs do not use all their abilities. I have seen SO FEW Nydus Networks in SC2. Seriously, you can move your entire army or a part of it ultra fast. Plus what about mass Ling/Bling if the Terran gets a huge amount of Ghosts (like 15 or more)? shouldnt they just destroy the Ghosts?
Zerg is the race that can tech switch the fastest, just because you reached Broodlord Tech doesn't mean you cannot build anything else.

P needed a buff in every matchup at the highest level. The upgrade difference is really small though. The EMP is the only big change, where obviously Protoss is getting raped in Korea.

First of all I hate how toss share so many upgrades.
Lets see, Zealot, Stalker, Sentry, DT, Archon, Immortal, Colossus share the same weapon upgrades.
But the problem is that this unit composition alone can deal with any threat if it's micro-ed good.
Add along the HT with storms, and that's pretty much what we see in every PvT.

I hate the fact that T can counter this only by going bio + medivacs/vikings, and it's pretty much the same thing in upgrades, the T get the 3/3 bio and sometimes if they can afford the weapon upgrades for air (vikings).

With this changes nothing will change at high lvl PvT because they all play the same army composition over and over again, the main reason for this, is because it's hard to integrate other units, for P stargate units, and for T the factory units.

There still are some players that get like 1 thor out, and put him in a different control group and in combat he tries to break the forcefields with him, but that's all, adding more factory units means that you need to invest in their upgrades also, and you get behind with the cookie cutter build.
For toss is the same, adding something from the stargate isn't viable because marine will just counter it, and stargate units with no upgrades are a bad investment.

I hate the fact that toss is the only race with only 2 weapon/armor upgrades + the extra shield armor that they have, but from a PvT perspective getting the shield armor is pretty worthless since you'll get EMP and loose it's efficiency.
In conclusion this patch won't fix anything in the PvT, it will just make P a little stronger.

I admire people that go for other builds, like goody with his mech style and 3/3 sieges that once gets to max, demolish this standard cookie cutter P build, or P players that do Immortal drops, and get the warp prism speed

the cheap first upgrade is pretty annoying. Is that what the Protoss need, another timing attack vs the zerg in the early game? A couple immortals + zealots + upgrade = gg zerglin/roaches.
Being able two two shot everything a zerg has pre-lair + close spawns ...

Protoss is struggling at the highest level in every stat you care to mention. Its most pronounced in GSL, but evident in all tournament stats.

Pretty much every Korean agrees that Protoss is the worst race, and the stats say it too, yet people still moan about Protoss getting straight up buffs. Go figure.

At least protoss can upgrade shields now! Very nice decreased armor and attack research also.
And EMP finally nerfed. But still marine/maradeur/meds tactic dominates for all TvP mathes. As i play mostly random, i feel that nerfed EMP will be good for Toss, but still hit and run problem will be.

It would be also good to nerf NUKES, because in late game TvZ it really hurts. Something like only 1 nuke for 1 ghost. 1 nuke can kill 26 workers -> that's 1300 minerals!!! and nuke with ghost cost 100/100. + 200/100= 300/100.

Hum...Not sure if someone already mentioned it, but in the early game, as you have no possibility to micro so that a damagne unit can regenerate shield, as a protoss you need 1/1/1 upgrade to be at the same level than Z or T being only at 1/1, right?

So, well, this make sense I guess.

Finally they lowered the Protoss Shield upgrade ; every blind player that does not know the game knew that it was totally stupid too expensive right from the start.

Even more funny if players say "Blizzard listens to the community!" ; this feels like a punch in the face, took more than 1 year to listen to the community.


Well, this or that way, finally its cheaper, nerfing EMP even more might be not needed at all, but Blizzard likes to jump around with nerfs and just see what happens.

It took them over a decade actually - shield upgrade was too expensive and useless all the way back in SC1 :D

The emp change is pretty huge, the area with the new radius is only ~56% of the old area, which means you can only hit roughly half the old amount of units with the new EMP.
