For those who don't know me, I am currently a commentator for the UFC and also a comedian, and host a podcast where I talk with friends about random topics. In the most recent episode, Duncan Trussell, a good friend of mine and huge Starcraft fan, brought up the game during the discussion. If any of you have been following my podcasts and know my history with video games, you would know that I was an avid Quake player (probably played too much and was addicted), so I am a little familiar with the Quake scene in competitive video games. I've read some of the reactions in this thread and hope that I could clear some things up. I wasn't trying to be dismissive or belittling of Starcraft or competitive video games in general because I know that's where MMA used to be. In my life, combat sports were my Starcraft. I felt the same way about people's perception of MMA during the early UFC days and PRIDE. Part of my reaction to Duncan's explanation for his fascination with Starcraft were because of my ignorance with the game and the community, and I'm not too proud to say that. I decided to spend an hour or two watching some games of Starcraft, specifically MLG as recommended by Duncan, and am amazed how different, or rather, how much bigger the people behind Esports has gotten since the Quake days. It has changed my view on how passionate and attractive video games can be in the form of being a watchable sport, and am excited to see where this thing goes in the future. Lastly, I may start playing to learn a little more about the game to appreciate the difficulty and nuances of the game, and am leaning towards Zerg since Duncan tells me they're the hardest race to play. Next time Duncan comes on the podcast we'll talk more about Starcraft and my new experiences and views on the game. As someone who was already a Joe Rogan fan I find this awesome. I think I have to start listening to this podcast starting when I get home from work. Never heard it before I'm guessing Dan is Artosis.

Love the UFC commentating, the comedy and pretty much everything you're doing.

However it's awesome to see how many of you are now interested in the podcast through the clip with Duncan Trussell talking about SC2. I've been watching since literally episode 10-20 and as silly as it sounds to people who only know about Joe Rogan through MMA/UFC or Fear Factor, he is one of the most interesting, open-minded, intellectual people i've ever listened too. Also, I skimmed through this thread pretty quickly so I apologise if someone already mentioned this and I missed it... but Sundance has actually invited Joe, Redban (Joe's video editor/assistant/friend) and Duncan to attend MLG Providence and get the "VIP treatment" as he worded it hehe. Duncan is seriously considering the offer it seems judging by his twitter posts but I think there is a UFC event happening the same weekend, so I can't see Joe attending. The awesome does not stop there. It appears someone either tweeted about the podcast to Artosis, or he watches it himself anyway, but him and Duncan have been communicating over Twitter and Artosis is going to help him get out of bronze league! ![]()

For sure man, so many wanna be intellectuals who just subscribe to group think and can't entertain an original or abstract thought to save their life.

I think that the mindset and die hard competivness needed to reach top levels in fighting and SC2 is quite similar. And you probably can find similarities between the ground game mind games and Sc2 aswell.

But that's what E-Sports is doing. It's bringing people from all walks of life into the discussion and the community. And I completely agree with his comparison to MMA. People used to discredit the hell out of the UFC, and now it is a world-recognized professional league.

Welcome to TeamLiquid Joe. ![]() Your enthusiasm to learn about different cultures & communities never ceases to amaze me. As a follower of your podcast since pretty much the beginning, It's pretty mind-blowing/surreal to see you post on here and talk about possibly playing as Zerg to learn the game and such. It's really awesome man and if you continue to post on here i'll be the happiest nerd alive, haha.
