I love the Joe Rogan podcast so much that I got pretty giddy when they started talking about SC2. I was actually tempted to make a thread about it or even make a thread about the podcast in general, i'm glad someone took the initiative :D
All the talk of Blizzard games on the podcast got me even more excited for blizzcon this weekend. If Duncan makes a youtube channel for SC2 i will be checking it daily. The only thing that i would find better than that is if he started a guild, he would have his own army on WoW.

In the most recent episode, Duncan Trussell, a good friend of mine and huge Starcraft fan, brought up the game during the discussion. If any of you have been following my podcasts and know my history with video games, you would know that I was an avid Quake player (probably played too much and was addicted), so I am a little familiar with the Quake scene in competitive video games.
I've read some of the reactions in this thread and hope that I could clear some things up. I wasn't trying to be dismissive or belittling of Starcraft or competitive video games in general because I know that's where MMA used to be. In my life, combat sports were my Starcraft. I felt the same way about people's perception of MMA during the early UFC days and PRIDE. Part of my reaction to Duncan's explanation for his fascination with Starcraft were because of my ignorance with the game and the community, and I'm not too proud to say that. I decided to spend an hour or two watching some games of Starcraft, specifically MLG as recommended by Duncan, and am amazed how different, or rather, how much bigger the people behind Esports has gotten since the Quake days. It has changed my view on how passionate and attractive video games can be in the form of being a watchable sport, and am excited to see where this thing goes in the future.
Lastly, I may start playing to learn a little more about the game to appreciate the difficulty and nuances of the game, and am leaning towards Zerg since Duncan tells me they're the hardest race to play. Next time Duncan comes on the podcast we'll talk more about Starcraft and my new experiences and views on the game.

I, for one, was pretty happy to hear this talked about on the podcast. No matter how much I enjoy watching eSports, even now with barcrafts everywhere celebrating these major tournaments, I can't help but feel like it's an extremely niche concept that most people will never want to embrace.
But then I see this on JRE, or see Gordon Hayward promote the IGN ProLeague or find out that Nik Lentz from UFC is an SC2 enthusiast and I start to believe that eSports really is getting pretty huge.

I had never listened too, or heard of, the Rogan Podcast before this, but I enjoyed it! All the way through, not just the e-sports mention. So let Joe know that you helped win him some fans
I am a master league zerg, and I use the speedling expand build nearly exclusively. It is good because you are safe from most builds your opponent can do to you, and can keep up in economy. So what I do is at 9 supply overlord, 14 supply gas, make a drone, 14 supply again pool. Once you have mined 100 gas, take your workers off of gas. Once pool completes, make your queen and a couple lings, and research zergling speed.
Generally from here you will want to expand at around 21 supply, but I'll leave the rest to you! Play around with it and see what works and what doesn't.

Joe's gonna be in deep shit playing Zerg if he hasn't had any prior experience to real-time strategy games like Command and Conquer or Warcraft. He should consider playing Protoss or Terran first. Even with me having experience with Warcraft, Red Alert and Starcraft : Broodwar, I can't play well enough as Zerg to be able to win games on a frequent basis.
Also, hey Duncan. There's actually some people around the North American servers that can teach people to play Zerg from Bronze to Masters somewhere in the SCII general and Strategy forums, if I recall clearly. You might want to search for those threads/authors.
Joe Rogan is alot more than a fear factor/ufc caster persona. He has done pretty decent standup. He's also a proponent of higher consciousness and human rights. I mean any guy who has a sensory depravation tank in his basement has to be a pretty cool guy.
