I agree with you that this will most probably the result of merging and hydra and roach. Lets hope that its functionality will be similar to lurker. Maybe throwing an acid spray in a line of action like lurker which can attack only attached to ground like siege tank.
^That second pic is an early concept of the baneling.
It's probably going to be a unit that burrows to 'siege' having its abdomen sticking out of the ground to fire. But really ... Why don't they just give us our damned lurker back.

Man that thing is ugly. Roach/Hydra TT

These create so much awesome hype. Can not wait for my siege mode Roach that shoots loaded up banelings.

I really think this thing is a roach-evolution that has faster movement when burrowed than anything in the zerg arsenal yet and has a very strong regen underground, kinda what the roach was at first.
This would give Zerg a decent T2-Unit that can force the opponent into making detection and be used offensively. Zerg really needs an offensiv cloaked Unit IMHO.
I guess it should also be armored by how it looks and have decent HP and probably a rather short-ranged attack from anywhere around 4-6 I guess. This would also be a decent Collossi/Sentry Counter, cuz it's well armored and can move very fast underground, to get into the Collossi and under the Force-Fields very fast. Maybe it can even move under structures when burrowed so smart building-placement cannot deny zerg aggression completely.
I hear a lot of ppl saying it's some kind of a siege-tank, but c'mon; zerg with a siege-tank Unit that is so similar to the tank? I guess it could be interesting, but I really doubt it.
I also thought about some sort of "teleport" mechanic while burrowed... Some sort of fast underground movement, kinda like the Nydus, with which this Unit could move from one point on the Map to another, regardless of any obstacles, if you have sight of course and surely not as far as the Nydus with it's infinity-range. This would also allow a very good way to combat Collo+Sentry+Stalkers or Siege-Lines, which is kinda needed after the Neural-Parasite-Nerf.
*Edit: It could also be quite similar to the Lurker, but they needed a new Skin because it now evolves from the Roach, so it can be a decent T2 Unit...

maybe is creep tumor type can move

I don't think Blizz can implement a siegetank-esque unit without changing many now playstyle-defining things, because giving zerg a possibility of taking an infinite number of bases and fortifying them with siegetanks seems just not feasible

You don't know what new units the other races get and what units possibly gets removed. I think it's fair to say either way that the expansion will have effect the playstyles.

maybe because the lurker would be a bad unit in sc2 only because it was a good unit in sc1 doesnt make it a good unit in sc2. i thoght the lurker only worked because the defiler so you also would need the defiler but zerg has the infestor....but whatever i dont rly care

maybe there are even 4 barrels, but i dont think so 2 seems to be the correct number

Looks like melee air unit.

Upgraded broodling. That's not a shell or cannon or anything, that's a parachute for when it's spat out of the broodlord

WP sir. I want it to be a lurker but it doesnt look like it. Is there gonna be 2 new units for each race or just 1?

I think it is some kind of heavy anti-air, zerg still needs it. They just cant kill colovoidray mixes cost effectively. Huge range, big bonus against armored, works well with broodlords (against vikings, zerg has problems seiging terrans even if has huge advantage), probably doesnt attack ground at all.

here again only for you
the boss

and btw
if it´s a hydra evolve -> it will have spike attackes if it´s a roach evolve -> it will have acid attacks
another thing i want to mention because i think it´s cleary a shell thing
A) it protect the unit itself in an way or B) it protect the "weapon" that´s hidding under it
one could also think about the way of how the the "shell" opens either in a way of folding down OR it could also go like a flower and expand backwards to set the "canon/spikes" free

There's a clear opening on the front of the thing on it's back. So it's obviously ranged, plus the fact that the turret or whatever you want to call it is pointed upwards is almost as big as the unit itself hints that it's shoots far/strong. Siege unit is my guess. Dig into the ground and shoots acid. Calling it now.
Also, not sure if this matters, but the head looks almost exactly like the hydralisk. Has that long, cone shaped skull. Plus the two claws on the end of the mouth are exactly like hydras. Could it evolve from the hydralisk like it did to the lurker? :O if it evolves from the hydra, I hope we get back hydra SPEED!

i do so want it to be the lurker but it will be any kind of siedge unit since blizzard said they will implement this kind of unit into the game
