If it is just a siege unit, then I will be a sad panda. I feel it is like giving a siege tank to zerg. It make diversity between race lower, especially if it has to "siege" then fire with same kind of splash damage. Lurker is cool because it splash mechanic is difference than other race, and it can attack only while burrowed.

Wasn't there a unit from a previous Heart of the Swarm unveil (the first one I think), with a Zerg unit and a bunker on its back?

a joke unit as far as I know that will probably only make an appearance in campaign. For blizzard to have revealed the infested bunker WITH an animated gif LONG before any HotS news was out from blizzard just goes to show it was a joke unit and wasn't anything serious. I just can't wrap my head around the thought that blizz would release a unit to the public very far before any HotS news and then bring it back as a silhouette and expect us to be wowed.

Scratch the previous baneling mine layer/launcher idea: unit that burrows and shoots fungal growths. Wishful thinking is kind of fun.
Less money for casters, more money for players.

This unit looks very similar to the silhouette shown by Blizzard today. This is just a custom mod unit, but could Blizzard have taken this and changed it in their own way? What do you guys think of this?

Awesome simply awesome idea !! I would love this unit for zerg !! A siege unit with an AoE attack that can only do it in "siege mode" and maybe off siege has the attack and speed of a hydra.
I guess it would follow pretty much the same principles as the tank needing vision to fire and having about 11 range when sieged and 8 when not.
It reminded me of those massive worms from Starship Troopers I think that shot the aircrafts and spaceships in the middle of the battle.
Since Blizz kinda made acid the them for zerg (roach, banes) then a hydra morphing in a siege unit that shoots a blob of acid that has good splash dmg would be awesome but I fear this plus infestors might be too powerful ?

For those familiar with LoL, Kog'Maw ultimate is to throw acid artillery that land within 2 seconds and can be dodged by good players.

Might we have some kind of Kog Maw-esque unit ?

It's going to probably be a siege unit.

Has 2 modes, siege mode, in which it only burrows its claws underground to get a firm position, firing globs of acid out of it's built in cannon similar to the effect that Banelings have when they die.

It can also burrow fully underground and shoot up with it's cannon as a form of anti-air.

looks like a roach that fucking flings banelings at people ><. I'm hoping they just go with a burrowed seige unit(lurker); it fits so much better with how I think zerg should go; Lurkers are delaying units. You get to drone a lot and fast tech up to lurks, burrow them in front of the base and make the timing push come at you significantly slower as you do the lurker hopping (at least in ZvT) which allows you time to safely tech up to infestor and actually have stuff other than 6 infestors; and it puts you in a nice spot to transition into lategame.

If this baneling cannon or we it is can burrow, I'm all for it. If it can't, I don't see this unit being very useful without destroying what zerg is. If you can just sit and protect it while it reigns down hell on some area on the map; that's not zerg, and I'd hate to see zerg become terranish.

I did a search for "bunker" and this was the only reply in this entire thread that I found...


It looks exactly like what this is... a burrowing unit that can infest/acquire a bunker for additional armor.

I'm guessing it's the re-imagined lurker, but has the benefits of both anti-ground/air attacks. It would also become an armored unit in contrast to the hydralisk's light armor attribute.

The ground attacks can only be initiated only when burrowed and air attacks unburrowed. The unit would probably have the movement speed similar to that of the hydralisk but in a more extreme extent. For example, walking on land with half the speed of the hydralisk as well as burrow movement, and double movement on creep walking/burrowing. I guess for the concept of the siege tank-ish aspect everyone mentions would be similar to that of the mutalisk, the "Glaive Wurm". Attacks could possibly be glaive wurm-ish with piercing armor attributes. I think the name of this bad boy should be the Gravelisk
