If you get insider information about a potential robbery, if you steal the money first to prevent the real robbers from taking it you're still in the wrong because you had no right to do so. Instead you call the police (or justin.tv support in this case) and tell them of the problem. You don't access another persons account without their permission. This isn't like a real world crime. This is internet. Your example is invalid. He tried to help and even if it was unmanner/illegal, not like anything is going to happen to him, and I don't blame him doing it because he clearly had good intentions. If you had the choice to break the law, over the internet, to help Day9 not get hacked, I'm sure many of us would do it.
My example is a hypothetical situation that puts the morality of his action in question. He thinks he's in the right when he's in the wrong. When you think about it the employee stealing the money first so the robbers couldn't in his eyes isn't a crime either because he wasn't intending on keeping the money but he thought he was doing a good deed because he prevented the "real" robbers from taking it.
The reality is that he's just as wrong as anyone else trying to access day9's account.

He didn't break in to steal any money, it was to prevent others from stealing. Although he didn't have any right to break in to the store, he thought by doing so, he was helping. Contacting justin.tv support is going to fix the problem straight away. You really think they are going to let a major security break just slip by like that?

JTV
Hopefully nobody decided to protect [read: steal] my account too. o_o'''

I did contact Justin.TV Support as well as Day9 and a few of his chat admins. I am sorry for those who have to read the argument of those who blew the reasoning and "logic" behind my actions out of proportions. my intention was what someone said above is to prevent someone having a second session which would mean I would hold Day9's account until support fixed the problem and everything was fixed. Thank you.

I doubt they'd be able to fix it before anyone could do damage. There were plenty of bans and account manipulation handed out, and there's a good chance it was reported the moment this exploit was leaked.

If you received a password change request email, then someone tried to. Otherwise you're in the clear.

It's hilarious that you can't see the flaw in your moral reasoning.

JTV has confirmed no passwords were compromised.

I would expect that it only takes a small amount of time to do something harmful to someone's account when you have access to it, maybe less than a minute. You can't be 100% sure that justin.tv support is going to be able to respond to your message within a minute, but of course they will respond to it very quickly which is why astoorion only took access of the account for the time when it was vulnerable.

They would be stupid to not have the passwords encypted.

That's because you would have had the original password to change the account password, so at least that had some security measures in place

Except for Day9's password. That one is being kept safe in astroorion's basement, tied up, hungry and naked in the dark - but hey its safe.

What flaw. He was trying to help day9. Seems like a person with good morals to me.

I understand that the way some people read this may interpret it in a different way then what I intended so I am very sorry for my actions and hope to be able to talk to Day9 about what happened and if there would be any problems in the future between the 2 of us.

NASL chat was a clear victim to that. Somebody did say he was Incontrol and started banning everyone chatting. Too bad, wanted to see the end of Idra vs Zenio
